  1. I am not even from Carthage or East Texas even just observer of high school football. Was at the game, actually with a friend who officiated for years in another state, and then watched the game after as well to see if I actually saw what I thought I saw. Carthage being CALLED for more personal fouls and legitimately committing more are two very different things. WO-S committed A TON and got away with 99.9% of them. WO-S was allowed (and not just in this game) to deliver countless illegal late hits, face masks, taunting, holding, interference (on defense on literally every pass play) etc. Many times you can actually see the officials in the middle of the mess as the WO-S players are taunting, shoving Carthage players trying to start a fight and refs do nothing but as soon as a Carthage player even responds with a single word or look, not even anything physical, they throw a flag on Carthage. Those officials had blinders on to everything WO-S did. And those are facts. Did not affect that outcome but that is not the point, someone at some point is going to get seriously hurt. One of the MANY face masks WO-S committed was pretty violent, the Carthage player's head got almost completely spun around and it was right in front of the official. No flag. The player did have to be assessed for a concussion on the sidelines. And these blatant things happened many times all game. My friend was losing his mind and was totally appalled.
  2. no one said that was the only reason it was close it was an observation how incredibly bad the officiating was. WO-S was getting away with everything under the sun, illegal hits, late hits, face masks, endless taunting - all right in front of officials. Do they always get free reign like that playing at home? How it affects the outcome of a game is not the main concern it's that someone is going to get very badly hurt when one team is given free rain to play as cheap and dirty as they want. seen it happen too many times to count. And it's rich to hear WO-S fans scoffing at any comments about refs when their fan base are still actually blaming the refs for them getting skull drug in the state championship. LOL They got away with all their dirty unsportmanlike play then too, they just couldn't take advantage of the assistance.
  3. actually the most recent matchup between Carthage and Athens was 63-28. You are just trying to create bulletin board material and a foundation for a possible documentary-worthy moment. But the facts are this: these are not the same exact teams from the championship game in December, for the most part WO-S stayed intact but Carthage is still figuring things out with so many first-year starters. Carthage is vulnerable.
  4. and i was referring to the fact not all coaches do that - there are indeed too many that will keep starters in the game regardless of the score. Hell there are even some who can be up 3+ scores, call a timeout with a minute left in the game to score again. Seen that too many times with my own eyes.
  5. I think this game is going to be a toss up. By the comments here it seems some of y'all are trying to lay a dramatic foundation for an epic upset. Unfortunately WO-S thirst for revenge is not valid - these are not the exact teams that played for the state championship. WO-S is pretty much the same unit returning most if not all starters. Carthage on the other hand lost A LOT and therefore have a lot of new parts and first year starters. They have some ares they are figuring out. I don't think it will be an upset if WO-S wins this game.
  6. Actually there are way too many coaches out there that who are more focused on running up the score as high as they can.
