I have seen both teams play, and I don't see Athens winning this game.  Coldspring will be too physical for them up front, and will run the ball successfully against the Athens D.  Athens' best bet is to throw the ball to #10 early and often.  He is a good one and the QB can throw.  The secondary is the one weakness CS has shown.  But, I don't think Athens QB will have much time, because the CS defense will be swarming him all night.  Should be a good game, but in my opinion (not from either town) CS will just have too much for Athens.  Prediction:  Coldspring 35  Athens 14

I hope Lamar will continue to have the great attendance they are currently having.  But, unfortunately, in the past that has not been the case in Beaumont.  We had a pretty good Class AA professional baseball team that nobody came to watch, and I remember the days of sitting in the stadium watching Lamar with about 2000 other people (not 17,000).  So, I think Lamar should try to be a great DII college, and don't get crazy with aspirations of becoming the next DI power in Texas.  We don't have the city to attract recruits like Austin or the Metroplex.  Lamar will always have to depend on the tier two athletes who are not quite good enough for the D1 schools.  Absolutely nothing wrong with this, just the truth.  Hopefully the fans will continue their support as they have in this inaugural year.  It has been great!

I was around Eugene alot in college.  A great person and as nice a guy as you will ever meet.  Put him in a football uniform, and he was the most violent hitter I have ever seen.  I literally saw college coaches not let him do certain drills (bull in the ring) in practice because they were afraid he would hurt someone...in college.  Glad to hear he is doing well.  He was a class act. 

I saw Jasper play last night in Rusk and they are the real deal.  Both pitchers were very impressive left handers, and they hit the ball hard through the lineup.  From what I saw, they could play with anyone in the State.
