  1. anyone who loses to Kansas in football gets hammered they're that bad
  2. Gonna say this again, why on earth would Todd Dodge come back here to coach LU???? He makes as much if not more at SLC coaching HS ball than LU could pay, beyond that, yea he's is an offensive genius. He's had chances to go Division I and turned them all down because his son is the new QB at SLC this year. God knows I'm a die hard Longhorn, if Major Applewhite can get OC job at Rice with one year as QB coach at Syracuse go 1-10, then Dodge can surely get a OC job at a bigger D-I school than coming back to LU. To even have a shot at him, you would have to be starting to play next year and you cant set up a program that fast. If anything I would expect Dodge to be the leading candidate for the OC job at Texas once Greg Davis gets canned, which will be after this year if he keeps game planning like he did last week. I'd love to see football back at LU, dont get me wrong, but no one is being realistic. Bmt wont support I-AA football when there are 2 D-I programs in Houston, plus college station, austin, waco, dallas all basically within a 4 hour drive away to go see GOOD college football. As a football fan, lets just say hypothetically LU was playing D-I and getting hammered like La-Monroe does. yeah that play Kansas, Alabama and Kentucky ALL ON THE ROAD. Look at the whole SunBelt conference schedule this year and see what the big HOME games are.... Ark St.. home for Army at Okla St, SMU, Auburn Fla Atlantic... No D-I home games, at Clem,Kan St, Ok St, S. Car Fla Int.... home for Bowling Green, at S.Fla, Maryland, Miami, Alabama La-Laf...home for Eastern Mich..at LSU, at A&M, at UH Mid Tenn.. at Maryland, at OU, Louisville UNT... SMU and La. Tech at home, at UT, Tulsa, Akron Troy... no D-I home games, at FSU, Ga. Tech, Nebraska, UAB even La. Tech who has a respectable D-I program (7-4 last year) they're ONE non conf home game is Nicholls State, granted they also play at Neb, at a&m, at Clem, and they're in a conference with Nevada, Fresno and Hawaii point being you cant generate a good enough home schedule to really get the community behind it, yeah you can play road games and fund the ENTIRE athletic dept. I-AA isnt the answer either, LU is stuck in a huge catch 22, damned if they do, damned if they dont. At least would have to try the D-I route because of the money that could be brought in for the athletic dept but dont expect to see anyone good coming here.

  5. Pretty sure it will be 1450 again since their logo is on the teams website.
  6. Props to 12, they actually announced the WC signings before mentioning the Cowboys, now we're talking
  7. The I-Bowl seats 53,000 for football, how big a mini-dome are you talking?? Also keep in mind that the Superdome is not ready for football yet and the agreement to play this game and give money to Katrina donations yadda yadda yadda was made last year, so not quite a normal pre-season game either.
  8. we watched that fight last night at work on FSN it really was bad the guy who he was fighting you could tell couldnt win a boxing match, maybe a wrestling match at a bar somewhere but thats about it. Holyfield when he was good wasnt a KO artist and for him to be 43, that slow and stop this fight in 2 rounds shows what a total bum the other guy was.
  9. hmm heat index of 375 outside versus ice chilled rink.... I vote ice rink
  10. I think part of this quote goes back to my post a couple of weeks ago about why do the local stations spend so much time covering "national" sports like NFL, NBA, MLB with the advent of ESPN, ESPN NEWS, and the internet I do feel it is somewhat pointless for a local station here to lavish any attention at all on the Texans, Astros, Rockets. If I want to see those highlights or see the score thats what I have cable/satellite for. Or to get really in depth get on the net and check the Houston sources. Now dont get me wrong if say the Twins were in town to play Houston, then I understand with Tyner and Ford now up for Minn. but just your regular everyday game 110 out of 162, I dont get it, if you only have 3-4 minutes why waste 60-70 seconds on the same highlights that are on ESPN??? Most nights when I watch the local news, I generally turn it off after the weather unless I'm trying to see a LU basketball score, HS football score, something of that nature. But its also true of the news itself, I care about the local news to see what kind of retarded ordinance Bmt City COuncil has or is coming up with next but if I want national or world news the same applies with CNN, FOX News, and the net. There are too many sources out there now for local stations to cover anything not local, simply because the local stations do not have the time nor resources to really do it considering all the "reports" are taped network feeds anyway. It's not like Angel SanJuan is doing a live shot from Baghdad you know?? Can we just stick to local and let the national media cover the national stories??
  11. 1. it's too small 2. that stadium was out of date even when they had a football team,if youre going to bring the program back do it in a new stadium get students and the public excited
  12. Can't buy that one for the reason that if LU plays a road game somewhere and there is no video of it, it is almost always the lead story, simple LU graphic over your shoulder follwed a by a screen with the numbers and stats
  13. comparing the intellect of Duke's athletes to the athletes in the SLC is roughly the same as comparing UT's National Championship team to the last football team at LU
  14. I guess what I'm referring to is not a passionate sports fan who knows what teams are where but the casual fan who doesnt go to a lot of games not knowing what or where Lamar is.
  15. Only real chance I have to go bass fishing is at my family's ranch north of Waco, 300 acres, 60 of it natural fed spring lakes stocked with bass, blue gill and all. I dont own a boat and havent found any good places to go hang out on a weekend afternoon and catch a few fish just sitting along the bank but would welcome any suggestions.
  16. I love Vegas and would move there if I could, but I dont think that Vegas is a good sampling of people only from the standpoint that with the casinos and sportsbooks there, and bettors and the amounts that they lay down of course they know what Lamar is, where Lamar is thats their job or if nothing else a passionate hobby. UNLV I suspect, that you and I are in fact a lot alike in that either of us can look at a stat page, or the week's football/basketball betting lines, and we know where schools are, what conference they are in, who they play etc, people like all of us on this board are passionate about sports we may have differing opinions on topics, but we agree we're all fans. As Lamar we look at out basketball schedule and see St. Gregory's on Nov. 25, I have no clue in hell where St. Gregorys is, never heard of them, but by the same token there are people at BYU who look at their schedule and say "Who is Lamar?, never heard of 'em, where are they from?" I'm not saying I'm in favor of a name change, only that if they decide to change it I like SE Texas State better than the other choices people have mentioned.
  17. even with HS football first, to add in the PRO team here behind the volleyball team?????? I know HS football here, I went to WB, but except for when I was doing the games on radio for KLVI I have not been to one HS game of any type since i graduated. I know people have kids on the team or in the band I completely understand that, one day I'll be in that situation as my daughter grows up, but as far as in being in general public if I'm going to see a game I want to see other than high school.
  18. I admit I like SE Texas State better than Lamar, Duke doesnt need to change their name when every basketball game they have is on national TV so everyone knows their name and where they are, we dont have that here.
  19. wasn't/isn't there a stipulation about what you have to average attendance wise to remain in I-A, i could swear I remember hearing about that as well when the decision was made to drop football. As far as the stadium issue goes, i know Entergy has a substation next to Vincent Beck, I wonder if they could get Entergy to move that and use the tract of land behind and adjacent to Vincent Beck where the old Cardinal Driving Range used to be and all the way to Cardinal Drive if that land would be large enough to build a new facility
  20. Be still my heart actually saw Yeats' announcement of both 4 and 6 didnt catch 12.
  21. TSU-Beaumont sounds as if we are affiliated with Texas Southern Univ. in Houston
  22. And I'd bet a beer that the signing does not get mentioned on the 6 or 10pm sports
  23. Southeast Texas Failing University got a nice ring to it lol
  24. I think it gives more recognition than just Lamar, yeah we all know about Lamar, but when it comes to sports a lot of people hear Lamar and are like "Huh?", Southeast Texas State at least then they do where we are.
