  1. Financially strapped? Not really. But the extra cash does come it handy. It allows a program like North Texas to bring well known programs to teh home field. North Texas will host Kansas State next year in Denton. Most non-BCS programs play one or two recognized BSC teams for that possible upset, like ULM upsetting Alabama, or Troy beating Oklahoma State. NT also has a multi game series with Army coming up in a few years. NT was supposed to play Univ. of Miami (Florida) this season for something like $400,000. LSU came along and offered NT $850,000. What would you do? Tough to pass up. NT's goal is to only play one "money" game a year like most non-BCS programs. For Lamar to host a FBS program in Beaumont, they have to come up with some serious money. I doubt even a North Texas would come to Beaumont for less than $150,000 to $200,000. Factoid: Did you know that North Texas hosted Florida State in Denton back in 1974 I believe. NT lost by one point in six inches of snow! I certainly wasn't dissin' UNT, so relax and get off the soapbox. The secondary will not get shredded this season, hopefully.
  2. Assuming Todd Dodge is still in Denton, would North Texas travel to Southeast Texas? More like us going to Denton.......UNT must be financially strapped if they're playing road games at Kansas St. and LSU. But Riley Dodge will be fun to watch.
  3. Got some letter in the mail saying that the Cardinal Club hadn't received my annual contribution. I mailed that form over a week ago - with my credit card number and everything. How is the booster club supposed to build its fan base when things like this happen frequently?
  4. There is no direct correlation. Use academia for an example. Does being in the top 10% of your graduating class mean that you will make the Dean's list every semester? What if someone is in the bottom 25% of their class. This doesn't guarantee unsatisfactory results at the college level. The below average student in grades 9-12 could graduate from college in four years and go to law school. I just felt like arguing about something. Give TT a breather! I only made mention of the one school because there has been discussion about a lack of information for young men interested in walking on to the football team. Obviously, the word is getting out. Of the five young men, only one received a scholarhip offer to my knowledge. So, I wasn't thinking they were blue chip prospects. I just think they are young men looking for an opportunity.
  5. There is no direct correlation. For example, academia. Does being in the top 10% of your graduating class mean that you will make the Dean's list every semester? What if someone is in the bottom 25% of their class. This doesn't mean they're doomed in college. The below average high school senior could graduate from college in four years and go to law school. Look at SAT scores. It should be noted that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weiss scored a perfect 1600 on his SAT. (2400 scale now?) The Irish were terrible last year.
  6. Bout' the Rice thing, it was sarcasm....
  7. UT coming to Beaumont ain't happening. Home-and-home with Rice is doable.....
  8. I've never heard of an FBS school playing at an FCS. One guy called in on Bob West's show with Coach Woodard and wanted to "bring in Miami, Oklahoma, bring em' all into Beaumont and lets get it goin' now." Woodard chuckled a little bit, because it likely will never happen but it's not impossible. What if Billy Tubbs worked some magic to get Stoops & Co. down to Beaumont? It would be unprecedented. There's another pipe dream.
  9. Yea, I must have been smoking something last night, but it is fun to dream 'Lamar at Oklahoma on ABC'. Realistically, it will be more like 'Stephen F. Austin at Lamar on Fox Sports Southwest' and that will be fine by me.
  10. This is purely hypothetical, but with Tubbs and his Oklahoma ties, what are the chances of LU at OU in the first three years? Hopefully Bob Stoops will be gracious enough to keep his offense from scoring 80 points on us. Feedback, please......
  11. Man, it sucks for me, because I have class from 5:30p-9. But lucky for me, I know how to prioritize. I'll be at Poblano Grill.
  12. WOS is losing students at about the same rate that Charles Barkley loses $$$ in Vegas. Pearce (or Peirce?) and Foreman would do fine at Lamar. Particularly Toby as WR coach, and up the ladder. Don't forget Coach Crouch and Coach Thompson. They aren't too old, as some will argue. They can coach.
  13. Will Richard, West Brook graduate 92', is coming. That's a given. After that, who knows.
  14. I agree. It would be totally unfair to expect Ray Woodard to win the Southland Conference and race through the playoffs in year one. By the third year LU should win the Southland. This is, of course, based on an expectation of staying FCS, not FBS. Ray Woodard could be the architect of a great football dynasty. Or Lamar might be mediocre for six or eight seasons. We can't predict how these things turn out.
  15. Insiders close to the Navarro athletic community are saying that Woodard has unofficially been hired. These people are either former Beaumont residents or friends of Lamar boosters. BT has done an excellent job of leaving the fans in suspense. I'm disappointed in the apathetic media coverage. If you watch sports at 10:20pm, you'll be lucky to hear something on LU football.
  16. I'm still trying to figure out who Mike Sanchez is.
  17. Mike Sanchez? Hmm. Guess the Woodard thing isn't a done deal after all.... :o
  18. Why would Woodard disclose anything before his official hiring? That's sort of unprofessional.
  19. It is Ray Woodard. Unconfirmed & unofficial, but that's the word.....
  20. This is what you said, "I just don't see enough money from private donors for a new stadium". To make this statement, you must know who and how much Lamar is getting in donations. I don't have any tangible evidence. It's just speculation, a wild guess. But you're right, I don't know.
  21. I like UNT, and they could be top-25 caliber. The point is this: DFW metroplex has TCU, SMU, & UNT for college football, with UTA coming soon. I wish kids would consider these three (four) schools rather than UT, OU, etc.
  22. Could UNT be as competitive as TCU? Even SMU should be a perennial top 25 team. SMU hasn't recovered from the death penalty. The metroplex has a plethora of high school talent. But the kids want to play for either OU, UT, A&M, Texas Tech, etc. Craig James even steered his son to Texas Tech. What does that tell you?
  23. Cardinal Stadium will be sufficient with renovations. I just don't see enough money from private donors for a new stadium.
