  1. Don't know about this one as much...Brenham apparently has some pretty good athletes so we may see a team with equal athletes for the first time this season. Still see Dayton rollin' in this one as long as they limit the mistakes.
  2. I hope this namecalling behavior is not a reflection of Friendswood and/or their fans. Just make sure you seek some serious help somewhere... :-\ See that's the thing...it is a reflection of Friendswood and their fans. How many times to do I get to hear about the Texas Tech bound QB? Friendswood won't have a player on the team that can outrun the slowest member of the Central Secondary. Run game is mediocre at best and depends on a pretty stout offensive line more than any back. They execute well; the QB is accurate and sees the field well. This will probably be a close game in the 27-24 range. The game will hinge more on the Central Offense vs. the Friendswood Defense then vice-versa. Friendswood will score some points.
  3. Still see the Nederland v. Friendswood comparisons...FYI - they're not in the same class. Grogan is a better back but Nederland isn't near as big, their recievers aren't as good, and their QB is one or two steps down. Don't go in thinking you'll shut them down like Nederland...think our team needs to make some plays on defense (turnovers) and our offense needs to score touchdowns, move the ball, and control the clock. Hope it rains like crazy too.
  4. Gonna have to agree...there's not a better offense in the state of Texas than Lake Travis. All they have to do is make you punt once. I don't think anyone beats them.
  5. None for me this week...surgery has forced me to bedrest for this weekend.
  6. Getting close to gamenight...just 2 days away. Go get 'em Broncos.
  7. Huh...did Liberty Hill get beat??
  8. Let's face it...if Coach Stewart was here in 1989 we'd be talking about that many straight playoff appearances.
  9. We're getting caught up in the recent past which I can understand because we've been so good here lately. Truth be told, if it comes down to just accuracy then I'd go with Curtis Trousdale. Had he played in this offense then there wouldn't be any debate about who the best passer was. In any event it doesn't matter...Cody has been outstanding this year (besides the first half of this past game). Let's hope the Nebraska head coach stays away for the rest of the playoffs.
  10. How about un-informed then. Thanks for proving my point for me although I'm not sure anyone else could reasonably asertain any coherent thought out of this jumbled mess. How was it that these great quarterbacks (ware, klingler, daniels, harrell, brees, UNITAS) were able to slip through the cracks of the 1st tier schools? My whole point was that being a highly recruited athlete doesn't mean you're necessarily the best.
  11. Defense wins championships...the most overused, overhyped line in history. Scoring more points than the other team wins championships. Offense, defense, special teams...all crucial.
  12. Can't imagine having to sit through that for years...nothing like running Knute Rockney's offense in 2008.
  13. I believe this may be the biggest key right here. No one has a better, more organized program that gets every ounce of talent out of each athlete. Dayton is sure not producing NFL caliber talent on a yearly basis, but you wouldn't know it by the coach's record. Funny all the coaches before him claimed the talent wasn't good enough to win in Dayton. Did someone all the sudden put HGH in the North Winfree Water Tower...???
  14. Don't throw the D1 recruit thing out either. D1 recruits have to have the measurables...size, speed, etc... but the most highly recruited players aren't always the best. Drew Brees, Chase Daniel, Kevin Kolb, Todd Reesing, and Graham Harrell were not highly recruited players out of high school because they didn't have the size. Anyone want to argue if they're pretty good QB's or not? To say that Cody is the best because he's the only D1 recruit is ignorant. He's pretty good though and he does have the size and speed that scouts/coaches can project onto the next level. If you still don't believe me then go and see where that little receiver #12 from Lake Travis went to college. He was one of the best high school receivers I've seen...he was always open. How many colleges recruit receivers that are 5'6" tall however...only ones that run world class speeds and I don't think that kid could do that.
  15. The best QB is a topic that we can debate for years and years and years. Simone Pearson was a pretty good QB as well as Dak. For my money we're watching one of the best to ever play QB in Dayton. Is he better than D. or S. Pearson?? Who knows. Either of the three of them were pretty good and you couldn't go wrong with any of them. Of course Curtis Trousdale threw a great deep ball and played for pitiful coaches. One can only imagine what he would have been in an offense like this.
  16. Without knowing the talent level or being close enough to the situation to render a real opinion, I'll just leave my observations from seeing PN-G for two years. The kids executed the offense very well but it was very predictable and depended on having road graters for lineman and tackle breaking running backs. It just looked severly outdated and un-imaginative. Defense was in fairly good position on almost every play but continued to try and cover wide recievers with linebackers. It didn't seem to me that the talent wasn't there, it seemed that the talent wasn't being put into positions to succeed. Sorry to hear that the head coach has stepped down...now it's up to you at PN-G to find the right coach to make it work. Good luck and I hope to see you (and your amazing crowds) down the road again soon...hopefully in the playoffs.
  17. I'll tell you why it puzzles you...they are a fairly good team that hasn't played a very tough schedule nor have they faced many multi-faceted high powered offenses. They are big and quick on the defensive line and their linebackers are stout. Their secondary is fairly slow and try to make up for it by playing a lot of zone. They will be in good position on just about every play and they stuff the run up the middle pretty good. They are weak on the edge...expect to see quite a bit of the Broncos trying to get the ball into the open field would be my guess. I wouldn't be surprised at all by a 40 point effort especially after watching them let Sharpstown move the ball pretty well especially in the second half.
  18. Something tells me we won't see any Terry comments like we saw Elgin comments from last week. This team can actually throw the ball ok...nothing like Friendswood but they run the same play action type stuff. Reading keys will be crucial this week for the defense. I didn't see them throw underneath much...just play action boot and throw long. Their receivers aren't very good at getting open and when sharpstown recognized pass Terry couldn't do much. They did catch them sucking in a couple of times and hit a couple of long ones.
  19. We'd need to paint the pressbox something other than white if we put "Smitty" on it. He never washed anything that turned out white.
  20. The biggest hit ever...watch the cameraman. [Hidden Content]
  21. Although I'd normally agree with you, their road to this round of the playoffs has been pretty easy. Sharpstown shouldn't have even been in the playoffs.
  22. Terry will be fine. He'll be back much sooner from a bruised lung then from broken ribs.
  23. Their defense it not nearly as tough as it's touted to be. They shut out a depleted Texas City team and Sharpstown would have been in last place in 19-4A. I'd be VERY surprised if they hold Dayton under 30 and I wouldn't be shocked if Dayton puts up another 40 point game.
  24. Sharpstown did score and they actually moved the ball pretty well all night. Just couldn't punch it in inside the 10. They ran some screwed up bastardized version of the spread but were very undisciplined in their routes and their reads. Terry's front 7 is pretty stout but they're fairly weak in the open field...if you're going to beat Dayton you have to be good in the open field. I'd expect Dayton to put up 28-35 at least. They're pretty tough inside so it'll be tough inside the red zone but whoever was touting Sharpstown's QB forget that...he's got some descent feet but he makes Cody look like Vince Young.
