UIL Drafts Proposal To Spilt Football Conferences
KFDM COOP replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree and i see what your saying. But you would be surprised the Coaches especially Small School Coaches who want this to pass. The UIL is wanting Teams to play teams close to their enrollment so they'll have a better chance to make the postseason and more. -

Clark, Dillon come up huge for Cardinals Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader BRIDGE CITY — The names of stars are easy to roll of the tongue concerning the Bridge City Cardinals baseball team. Names of the past, present and future are lined with stars and players either gone through the college ranks or still making names for themselves. Seniors Jaden Dillon and Jason Clark may not be spotlighted as superstars but ask anyone and they know how important these two have been for Bridge City (24-5) over the last several seasons. The two are quiet on the field expect where it matters the most — results. Dillon is 6-1 on the mound with a save and a 3.07 ERA while Clark is 5-0 with a 2.90 ERA. The two have combined to strike out 121 batters. Clark is batting .339 on the season with 24 RBI, 20 hits, 11 walks and four stolen bases. Dillon is batting .301 with 17 RBI, 20 walks and four stolen bases. “When the spotlight is not always on you, you don’t have all that weight on your shoulders,†Clark said. “We are just able to go out and play. There is not always a lot of pressure on the two of us. When we do get our chance and shine, you still get acknowledged for your hard work.†Clark’s stock was on the rise after last season’s Game 3 against Needville, this weekend’s area round opponent, when the then junior came in and shut the Blue Jays down. Clark hurled 5 1/3 innings and gave up just four hits and two runs to the Blue Jays to win the regional quarterfinals series. “I have been thinking about that game and series here lately,†Clark said. “They had trouble hitting my slider and I was able to keep them off balance. You have to watch what you pitch and where you pitch to them. I just hope the same thing happens this year.†Dillon knows Needville will be ready to go this weekend as the series starts up at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Humble. Game 2 is at 7:30 p.m. Friday while Game 3, if necessary, is at 2 p.m. Saturday all in Humble. “It was a pretty good match-up last year,†Dillon said. “I am pretty sure they want a little revenge from last season. It will be an exciting series and we can’t rely on what happened last year. We will see who plays the best.†Dillon and the Cardinals have been good about getting revenge of their own so far this year with two victories against Jasper who knocked Bridge City out in the regional finals a year ago. “The two wins against Jasper was the highlight of the season so far, especially coming back to win the second one,†Dillon added. “All the excitement is because what happened last year in the regional finals. “Winning the district championship meant a lot to us. We knew going into the season we had to get it back and we got it.†Clark also acknowledged the fact the Cardinals are not just satisfied with making the playoffs and winning the district title. “You always want to do better than you did the year before,†Clark said. “The three seniors on this team hope to make the state tournament. We have the talent to do it and set that as a goal. We work well as a team and nobody has enemies. It helps when everyone is working on that same goal.†Catcher Casey Jackson is the third senior for the Cardinals. Dillon quietly responded he also knows the Cardinals have a one-track mind these days. “We are taking it one series at a time,†Dillon said. “We are starting to come together real well as a team. You can’t let the pressure get to you and we are only worried about our next opponent. It’s just another game to me and I am going to do what I can to help this team win.†The Cardinals/Blue Jays winner will face the Jasper/Bellville winner next week in the regional quarterfinals.

[Hidden Content] SPLIT CONFERENCE FOOTBALL ALIGNMENT STUDY - DRAFT This is a draft of a plan that could split football conferences into two divisions. This is not a proposal by UIL staff, nor has it been approved by the UIL Legislative Council. The study of a split conference alignment plan for football is complete. This plan divides each conference into two divisions in football. The largest half of each conference is grouped into a division and the smaller half of the conference is divided into a separate division. The large school division has 16 districts and the smallest half of each conference has 16 districts. Approximately six to eight schools are placed into each district. The same number of schools from each district advance to the playoffs. Twelve champions would be crowned as is done currently. Possible Advantages: • Provides more clarity and less confusion regarding who is Division I and who is Division II. • Clearly defines divisions prior to the season rather than at the end of district play. • Creates more equity in relation to the largest and smallest school within a division. • Eliminates two schools with the largest enrollments in the state advancing to the playoffs in the smaller enrollment division. • Eliminates the smallest schools in a conference grouped with the largest schools in a conference. Possible Disadvantges: • Additional travel. • Other team sport activities could want the same division alignment. • Creates an additional group of schools that will be the smallest within a division. • Creates administrative inconvenience. • Scheduling issues could occur in multi-school districts that share stadiums. The UIL staff presented the concept to the Legislative Council in June and October. The Council authorized this study to provide information regarding the actual placement of schools into districts. This draft is for study purposes only and applies only to football. Drivers characterize wreck at Richmond as no big deal CONCORD, N.C. -- Three security guards walked into the media center with Kyle Busch during Monday's test session at Lowe's Motor Speedway, but none was needed. Although fans threw things onto the track at Richmond International Speedway following Saturday night's late-race incident between Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and a few tossed obscenities at Busch later that night on his way to the helipad, Busch said his life is not in danger. He agreed with Earnhardt that the wreck, which kept Busch from winning his third race of the year and NASCAR's most popular driver from ending a two-year losing streak, was the result of hard racing. "No, there's not been any death threats," Busch said. "That would be ludicrous, I guess. Maybe they're out there. I haven't seen them. I hope my well being is safe in this deal. "Since Junior ended up OK, then hopefully I can end up OK." Earnhardt certainly doesn't hold a grudge. "I took him out at Kansas last year during the Chase," he said. "That's really why I wouldn't be more vocal or angry about it. I'd just be hypocritical in that sense. We've both kind of been on each side of it between the two of us. "Hopefully, once me and him have a chance to talk about it we can come to some kind of understanding to where we don't ever have to deal with it." LMS track president H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler tried to take advantage of the incident by asking security guards to show for Busch's press conference. Two years ago, he offered extra security when Brian Vickers took out Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson going for the win at Talladega. This one drew more scrutiny because Earnhardt replaced Busch at Hendrick Motorsports this season and then went to rival Joe Gibbs Racing. It happened with four laps remaining when Busch got underneath Earnhardt going into Turn 3. Busch appeared to get loose and contact was made. In order to save his car, Busch said he had no choice but to turn right into Earnhardt, who spun out. Earnhardt finished 15th and extended his losing streak to 72 races. Busch held on to second behind winner Clint Bowyer and took the points lead. "The only thing I was upset with was the fact we didn't get the points out of it I should have been able to get," said Earnhardt, who held onto third. Both drivers also agreed they could have done things differently to avoid the wreck. "I could have been on a beach in South Carolina or on a lake in North Carolina," Busch said jokingly. "In that particular incident, we probably both could have given each other a little more room." Busch said he could have driven further to the bottom of the track, that Earnhardt could have taken a line similar to the one he had been running. "He was trying to find something that would work better for his car so he could get away form me," he said. "Unfortunately, he got the worst brunt of it." Said Earnhardt, "Kyle has his style of driving. I would have been a little more ... I don't know. Maybe I would have run as hard as he was. I don't know what I would have done." Earnhardt's teammate, Jeff Gordon, said the incident wasn't inevitable. But he did understand how it could happen, recalling an incident he once had at RIR with Rusty Wallace. "The guy on the outside, he's going to race hard to make it very difficult for the guy on the inside to make the pass," he said. "The guy on the inside has to be a little more bold and aggressive. "At the same time, you know going into Turn 3 you can't get in deep if a guy is on the outside. It'll take air away and gets the car loose. It looked to me like Kyle drove in there too hard and it took the air off of him and got him loose." Busch said he left a voice mail for Earnhardt early Monday and hoped the two could talk to make sure there are no lingering hard feelings. "He [grew] up knowing one of the best in the sport," he said of Earnhardt's father, the late Dale Earnhardt, who didn't earn the nickname "Intimidator" by being nice on the track. "I'm sure he has a lot of knowledge he can still relay to me, so I'd like to listen."

Woman accused of plowing car into group after argument, killing one NASHUA, N.H. -- A woman accused of running down a man in her car after a Red Sox-Yankees argument in a bar never hit her brakes as she accelerated toward the small group he was in, a prosecutor said Monday. "She never braked, and she accelerated at a high speed for about 200 feet. She went directly at this group of people," prosecutor Susan Morrell said of Ivonne Hernandez, who is charged with reckless second-degree murder in the death early Friday of Matthew Beaudoin, 29. Ivonne Hernandez is charged with reckless second-degree murder after allegedly gunning her car and speeding into a group of people outside a Nashua bar. Hernandez was ordered held without bail after being arraigned Monday in Nashua District Court. The charges, including aggravated drunken driving, are felonies, so Hernandez could not enter a plea. Her public defender, James Quay, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Authorities won't describe the argument beforehand in Slade's Food & Spirits, but witnesses said it heated up when Hernandez identified herself as a New York Yankees fan. Nashua, 45 miles northwest of Boston, is Red Sox country. Bartender Tanya Moran said the argument spilled outside, and at least one person in a group that included Beaudoin began chanting "Yankees suck!" when they saw a Yankees sticker on Hernandez's car. Hernandez, 43, allegedly gunned her car and struck Beaudoin and his friend Maria Hughes, 21. Beaudoin's sister, Faith Beaudoin, said Hughes had only minor injuries because her brother shielded her. Beaudoin died of massive head trauma at a hospital, Morrell said. Hernandez, of Nashua, was arrested at the scene. She acknowledged she had been drinking and refused to take a breath-alcohol test, said Morrell, a senior assistant attorney general. Hernandez said she had been in an argument with the group. "She indicated to police that she wanted to scare this group of people. She thought they would get out of the way," Morrell said. Moran told The Telegraph of Nashua during the weekend that Beaudoin came to the bar regularly to socialize, sing karaoke and have fun. "He came to hang out. He didn't really drink much," she said. Chris Lovett, a disc jockey at Slade's, told the New Hampshire Union Leader that Beaudoin kept to himself and "wasn't an instigator." Faith Beaudoin said her brother, who lived in Nashua, was a 1997 graduate of Nashua High School who worked dealing poker at Sharky's Poker Room in Manchester and Nashua. She said his organs, including his heart, liver and kidneys, were donated in hopes of saving other people's lives. "He was always helping people when he was alive, and he's still saving lives," she said, choking back tears.
