Judge orders seven fans to write essays on what they have learned BOSTON -- Seven rowdy Red Sox fans have a homework assignment, and it has nothing to do with baseball. A judge has ordered them to write a five-page essay explaining what they have learned from their experience of being arrested after the Red Sox won the American League Championship Series on Sunday night. The defendants must also provide proof to the court that their parents are aware of their arrests. The seven were among 26 people -- many of them college students -- charged with disorderly conduct charges. A spokesman for the Suffolk District Attorney's office says many were arrested for ignoring police orders to clear the area around Fenway Park after the game. Some in the crowd allegedly threw rocks and bottles at police. "We wanted to send a strong message that shenanigans would not be tolerated," Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald. "We were a lot better prepared this year than we were in 2004." When celebration broke out after Boston beat the Yankees to win the 2004 AL pennant, 21-year-old Emerson College student Victoria Snelgrove was accidentally killed by a pepper pellet fired by a police officer. "We want everyone to be safe, and root for the Red Sox," Menino told the Herald. The Herald estimated that abot 1,000 officers were on the streets around Fenway on Sunday night. According to the Herald, Boston police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said no complaints were logged against the police. Menino said the police presence will remain bolstered on Wednesday night when the World Series opens at Fenway. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

PA NEWS PLAYER OF THE WEEK The Port Arthur News Jeremy Granger, Orangefield - Only a six-touchdown performance could out do Port Neches-Groves' Harrison Tatum for this week’s top spot for player-of-the-week. Granger was nothing short of spectacular, rushing for four touchdowns and receiving two more, helping the Bobcats get their first win of the season on Friday night against Bridge City. Granger piled up 198 yards on the ground on 14 carries, including scores from 12, six, 54 and 43 yards. Granger also caught two passes for 62 yards, scoring on both receptions. His first came on an 11-yard pass play that gave his team an early 7-0 lead. Later, he scored on a 51-yard pass play. Bobcats head coach Blake Morrison said Granger's performance was special. "It was absolutely a great night," Morrison said. "It was one of those nights most kids can only dream about and he got to live it." Honor Roll Harrison Tatum, Port Neches-Groves - In a battle for the top-spot in District 22-4A, this quarterback was nearly perfect on Friday night against the Lumberton Raiders. Tatum threw for 185 yards on 13-of-15 passing. He completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Matt Johnson and scored on a 1-yard run as well. Tatum very well could have been 14-of-15 if the officials had ruled correctly on a very questionable call. Among the many things he did statistically, head coach Matt Burnett was really pleased with Tatum's six cut blocks that helped spring free the Indians' running backs. "He really had a big night for us," Burnett said. "He was very instrumental in the outcome of the game. He got the offense clicking from the start." Tatum graded out at a 90. Patterson Clay, Memorial - Aside from a last quarter letdown from the Titans, this senior running back had an outstanding night. Clay rushed for one touchdown, carrying the ball 18 times for 122 yards, which is the most yards in a game for any Titan this season. Clay also caught six passes for 55 yards. Head coach Ronnie Thompson said Clay played extremely well, blocked very well and did everything he could have been asked to do. Daunte Raymond, East Chambers - This running back found a lot of holes on Friday night but it’s what he did after contact that made head coach Tony Valastro so happy. Raymond rushed for 172 yards on 21 carries and found the end zone once as well. "He did a great job after contact," Valastro said. "He hit the holes hard and spent a lot of time dragging people around the field." Wareall Grogan, Nederland - This junior defensive end was a monster on Friday night against Ozen, piling up 10 tackles, including four for a loss. Grogan made huge contributions in the second half for the Bulldogs, helping Nederland turn a 14-10 defecit at halftime into a 31-14 victory. Grogan made two sacks in that second half and also caused a fumble. Head coach Larry Neumann said Grogan graded out at an 85. Dustin Breaux, Bridge City - This senior quarterback did a little bit of everything on Friday night. Not only did he throw for three touchdowns but he rushed for a 56-yard touchdown as well. Breaux threw for 219 yards on 19-of-35 passing and rushed for 112 yards on 16 carries. Brad Berg, Sabine Pass - This junior outside linebacker played a strong game in a losing effort to West Hardin on Friday night. Berg made 12 tackles, including six assists, and forced one fumble.
