  1. Wow! Dropping the phrase "racially motivated" in your post shows a stunning lack of self awareness. Mayfield may have some skin in the game given what happened with his son, but to add a racial component to this is ridiculous. Plus, I would encourage you to think about that statement a little - the kid we are talking about being ineligible is African American. (Lest I be accused of being "racially motivated", I just want to state for the record that I am white and have lived in Nederland for 40 plus years. And, I still think he was dead wrong in how this was handled.)
  2. Anyone defending Nederland and Neumann here is only doing so based on the numbers 5 and 6, as in district championships and wins over Port Neches. At this point, it doesn't really matter whether or not Neumann and/or the staff knew about this kid's living situation and that is precisely the problem. It is his job to investigate that and determine if he is eligible or not. If he isn't, you don't play him. It really is as simple as that and it wasn't done. Please feel free to list all of the excuses or justifications for that not being done by the athletic director who is paid very well to do that.
  3. If your potential starting QB was a move in, you certainly do not leave it up to her to make sure that everything is documented properly. We are definitely in Harry Truman territory here - the buck stops with Neumann on this one.
  4. There is no 'in Neumann's defense' in this issue. Confirming eligibility of players and making sure you are in compliance with UIL rules is a big part of why he receives a six-figure salary from the tax payers of Nederland ISD. No need to speculate on what happened or what he knew and when - he did not do his job here.
  5. If this is true, it is absolutely inexcusable that Nederland did not do its due diligence and either have the PAPF filled out properly or investigate where this kid was living. What a joke and a huge black eye to the district and the athletic department.
  6. Keep posting, skip! All your stuff is genuine and comes from you being a big fan. We need more of that around here.
  7. I'm not sure if the outcome of this game says more about Vidor or Nederland. This is arguably one of Vidor's best teams in in the last 20 or 30 years and they managed to beat a down Nederland team with a second or third string QB by one point in overtime.
  8. I wish everyone realized how stupid they sound when they say (fill in the blank's) referees are here. All of the crews are from a wide area and the coaches can veto a crew they don't want. Do you really think that Jeff Matthews would allow a "Nederland" crew to call the game?
  9. 1-1 due to an inexcusable act that has put a black eye on the entire athletic department and district. Embarrassing.
  10. I'm shocked that this keeps popping up every week.
  11. Saw him twice this year and really liked the way he coached. That is a pretty big loss for Ozen, but if he goes to a program with some experience and a little talent, I think he will be very good. Best of luck to him and to Ozen.
  12. Congratulations to Jack Dallas. Great player and an even better kid.
  13. Mini single elimination. Not round robin.
  14. If it ends up with three teams tied at 8-6, and if I am reading that right, with three teams vying for two spots, the team that wins the coin toss should automatically be in. The other teams would like play for the fourth spot with the loser being out. After that the teams could either play for seeding or flip again to save pitching.
  15. Anyone know how district tie-breaker rules work?
  16. Grass is an embarrassment? I would think the bigger embarassment would be if a school had inadequate classroom facilities or academic results. Turf is a luxury that some districts are either unable or unwilling to pay for. Unfortunately, there are priorities for some districts...
  17. Something tells me a certain coach from this area probably wasn't one of the 4,000+ coaches in attendance at that conference in 1996...
  18. I never said he made it past the dugout. Your post seemed to imply that since he did not make it past the dugout that it wasn't a big deal. I don't think anyone at that ballpark believed he was going out on the field to discipline his son and I feel pretty certain Cavness did not believe that, either. I'll agree with you on Cavness, he is top notch and some friends of the baseball program may not be pleased with how he deals with this situation. As for flaming kids on social media, you said you were certain that other PNG and Nederland players were at the beach drinking, but did not get caught and should not have been playing. I guess it is okay to flame everyone as guilty by association and then hide behind some sense of moral superiority that you are not going to "throw names out on social media just for the hell of it." Based on that response, I'll just assume the answer is you don't know anything about the lives and times of the kids from both PNG and Nederland who were not arrested or cited over spring break.
  19. Eagle91- Name them. You can't just lob an accusation like that and move on. Who from Nederland should not have been able to play because of a similar infraction? Regardless of the answer, it is unfortunate that the kid was ejected. Heat of the moment, things happen, words are said, etc. I don't think a warning would have been out of line in that instance. But, there is zero justification for a parent to charge onto the field. None. And, please don't insult anyone's intelligence by saying that he did not make it past the dugout or he was going to get his son. That is definitely not what occurred or how PNG administration construed it.
