  1. Bobcat, I like that desing, and the idea one writer had was to have a design contest...that will get buy-in on the new program, good idea. When I played at LU, we had sort of a Alabama wanna-be look?? THe only problem here is...how do you make a cardinal look tough?! One of the older helmets had a growling cardinal with TEETH! Ahhh the good old days
  2. Ivy Jackson makes a really good sausage, consistent every time and his prices are good. I enjoyed the sausage and especially the deer boudain from Zummos but getting 2 deer done can cost you a load of cash.
  3. The point I was trying to make was that when Cavness was interviewing for a coach, that he wanted someone who wanted to play state caliber teams, and thats what WB got, it took some doing but now with a small district WB can play more preseason games
  4. When Cavness hired Stump, he insisted that Stump schedule these kind of opponents, and this will surely help WB get to the level they are capable of playing at.
  5. This is just what WB needs to do so they can build and compete for the Championship every year. Playing Katy and WF is a good idea. Those kids need to compete at that level to reach their potential. Hope it works out for Stump and the boys.
  6. The overall quality of the deer was excellent...just the plain 8 pts. had good mass and length. Saw deer to 190". The rain played a good part, saw alot of twin yearlings I was with my buddy when he shot a 187 non typ. The place I guide (San Miguel Ranch) have shot several over 170 and another friend of mine shot a 182" 10 point last Friday...a ton of quality 150" have been killed. Look at he deer on LosCuernos...they have some huge ones. I'm still booking MLD hunts through Feb., and hunts for next year, if ya'll are interested, we'll get in touch. My buddy at the Trodillo shot a 151" 8-pt. A really good season.
  7. Gringo, I'll be back on Sunday...who do you use for a taxidermist...I use Reeves in Channelview, he's excellent
  8. Gringo, that is a great deer...did he bust 160"? I am headed to Maverick county tomorrow evening and the moon is good, the weather is getting cold and the bucks are about to move.
  9. This is a pure example of how we do NOT want our kids to act. These kids are THUGS!, period. The UIL will not take this lightly. It is sad to know that that whole school could be not permitted to participate in any UIL activities.
  10. Fellas, and ladies, I am still booking hunts in South Texas, we have deer from 130"-190"...prices vary, but I can give ya'll all the details, 5 star accommodations/food...professional guides, the whole deal...the moon is getting good and good deer are going to be on the move....these hunts are on 30,000 acres with free range and high fence
  11. Hey, LaVegaPlaya, put an 'S' after the 'K' in LOOK,...genius
  12. I will push hard for Craig Stump/he is the total package with his previous college D1 coaching, plus proven success!
  13. Guiding last week, we only had 4 hunters of 10 shoot out...2-135" eights, 1-155" 11pt., and 1-169" with a drop...all free range...the moon has got to get right and it will turn on Saw a bunch of young bucks and does, as usual with a bad moon
  14. To get to the Deer Park stadium: go I-10 to 146, go south on 146 over the Ship Channel bridge, get in right lane and go West on 225, remain on 225 and exit Center Street, go South on Center street all the way down to San Augustine, you can turn right on San Augustine and the Campus is less than 1/4 mile on the left (the stadium is on the South side of the Campus), or continue on Center to, I believe P Street, and go west and it will run into the parking lot. or Go I-10 to BW8, go south on BW8 (will have a toll at foot of toll bridge), continue on BW8 to San Augustine and go East (left) on San Augustine and the South Campus is down on the right, the stadium is on the south side of the School. Home side is on the West side and Visitors on the east. Traffic is terrible on Center street in the evenings so leave early, it is about 70 miles.
  15. Raid07, Deer Park's stadium is plenty big, it will accomodate all ya'lls fans, and it is a really nice stadium. Ya'll can go 10 to 146S, go over bridge and go West on 225, exit Center street and go South...stay on Center to San Augustine, go right and the stadium is 1/4 mile on left.
  16. Most, but not all, coaches understand that at some point their career that they can have the score run up against them. Therefore, most do the right thing and make substitutions, rest the starters, quit running gadget plays, and in general show some class in winning big. I know of only a few coaches in this area who will in fact score 77 on you if they can-keep on throwing-keep on blitzing and keep the starters in util the clock clicks down to zero, and coaches know who they are. I disagree with the mercy rule and believe we should hire and retain coaches who do not do things to give the game a bad name. Most coaches want to score alot of points and give up few. You keep score for a reason and it is the defenses job to stop you, but coaches should still use common sense. The smart coaches know that their talent level cycles over the years and that they could be faced with a weak group and thus face being blown out and embarrassed, therefore they do not do that to other teams/kids. Common sense is the key here. A coach can still win big, get his starters out, and continue to work on their offense/defense in a blowout without embarrassing the other kids.
  17. Wildfire, go to www.southeasttexas.com, they usually have one or two .270s for sale and Gander Mt. in Beaumont has a good selection of guns, both new and used. If you can find a Model 70 in decent shape, I'd buy it. I highly recommend the .270 Winchester Model 70, from experience. Mine shoots the old Federal Premium 130s the best
  18. West Brook needs to play people like Spring Westfield, Katy, Tyler, etc. during the preseason and quit wasting their time beating up on Central and Ozen. Not taking anything away from CHS and OHS, but West Brook needs to play state contenders if they are going to make that final push to make the final four each year. It does a 5A team no good to beat a 4A team and the 4A team risks getting beatup and injured. I think it is a lose/lose situation for both the 5A and the 4A schools involved. This is the ONLY thing holding Stump and the boys back from reaching their potential.
  19. Tell me if any of you have ever heard of this, or seen such a situation. When I was a 12-13 yr old we hunted on the Dinn Ranch just South of Freer for several years. On two occasions, I saw the following: We were driving to town after the evening hunt. I always asked Dad to drive to the gate and he would let me. Driving down the road to the gate, I saw about 8-9 quail standing in the road in a straight line, they were perfectly upright and still. Beside them was a 5-6 foot rattlesnake. The rattlesnake was stretched out straight and the quail were standing right beside the snake just standing there. The quail were only 4-5 inches from the snake. I witnessed this twice. I do not know what the quail were doing but know for sure that I saw this. Anybody got any info.
  20. Fellas, I was in South Tx. two weekends ago...I literally saw hundreds of coveys of quail, both blues and bobs...they were everywhere, and they were fat...I saw more blues than I have ever seen down there...The rain has got to be the key...The deer were FAT and healthy...Headed to Larado on Thursday PM, and will hopefully have some pictures on Monday for ya'll. Have a good week.
