Ned has got it going -
Titans, Panthers set to face off By Cody Pastorella The Port Arthur News BEAUMONT — To say Ozen struggled in its first game of the season would be an understatement. The Panthers totaled 11 yards of offense in their 26-6 losing effort to the West Brook Bruins. Perhaps West Brooks’ defense deserves all the credit but then again 11 yards is 11 yards. This week, the Panthers face the Memorial Titans who have yet to step on the field this season. But last week and last year don’t mean a thing to the Titans. Head coach Ronnie Thompson and first-year defensive coordinator Curtis Viola said no one at Memorial will be taking Ozen lightly. “We always expect them to give us a tough game,†Thompson said. “They gave us a tough game last year. They have great team speed and they are always a good hitting team. They have a game under them this season, so that is an advantage for them and that means we have some catching up to do. “We have been working hard, preparing hard and have taken the steps we need in practice as a team, so we are excited to get on the field and get to get this season started.†While Ozen’s offense couldn’t get anything going, the defense managed to hold the Bruins’ pair of running backs, who combined for 2,400 yards last season, to less than 150 yards on the ground last week and picked off three passes — one was returned for a 78-yard touchdown. “You can’t gauge what happened last week and what they are really capable of. With the conditions they were playing in, it’s hard to know what to expect,†Viola said. “We know they have some great athletes over there, we know they have a solid running back and big wide receiver.†Viola, said the Titan defense is going to go out and do what they’ve been working on all year. Viola has the team in a 3-3-5 and hopes team speed will make up for some lack of size. Viola also plans to blitz offenses into a lot of mistakes. Last year, the Titans gave up an average of 273 rushing yards per game, but Viola said those issues were addressed throughout the offseason. He said it’s time for his defense to go out and execute. The other big question for the Titans going into their first game is the quarterback situation. For the first time in his great career, Thompson will be using a two-quarterback system. Thompson said he still doesn’t know who will get the start but he said both senior Harry Brown and junior Jarael Alexander are more than capable of running the offense. “All of the offense,†he said. “These guys have different personalities and bring different styles to the position but there isn’t anything in our offense that they cannot handle. “They are going to compensate for the other. Just because one gets the start doesn’t mean anything at this point. I’ve told them both that coming off the bench is going to be just as important and each of them will like coming off the bench. If you are on the sidelines for one series, you can watch and see what’s going on out there and make adjustments before ever stepping on the field. “Both of these guys are going to play. Whoever plays more or whoever we decide to have in for a certain series will just depend on the situation and how the game is going.†The Bruins ran a balanced attack against Ozen last week, throwing for 120 yards and rushing for 128 yards. Memorial averaged 250 yards through the air last season in Thompson’s no-huddle, spread-offense, and they averaged 100 yards on the ground While the Titans are still feeling their way around at quarterback, perhaps the key for the offense will be third-year letterman Patterson Clay who returns to the offense after averaging 5.6 yards per carry last season. The Titans also have Freddie King, a first-team all-district selection at wide receiever, back. King scored eight times last year on 49 pass receptions. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium in Beaumont. Offense QB — Harry Brown QB — Jarael Alexander RB — Patterson Clay WR — Rashaud Brown WR — Glenn Windon WR — Solomon Jones WR — Craig Dailey LT — Reginald Broussard LG — Kevin Thomas C — Darius Tanner

hey Soulja, all he needs to do is fix the offensive line. That's Central's only area he needs to upgrade, They look a little soft. Everything else is fine. -

What was the early fake punt that did not work all about in the 1st quarter? That puzzled me Soulja. Shed some light. -
