I believe he is......Rip pitched at Sam Houston w/ a friend of mine. Rip is Matt's uncle, played with Coach Griff back in the 'old days' and usually makes the alumni games.

Way to go Bridge City!!! It must have been a great pitcher's duel. Luke & Grant represent a team spirit that never gives up. Congrats to all players, BC & LCM. Matt has been friends and teammates with Dallas & Tim for years. All three guys genuinely love this sport. I would love to see some highlights since I'm out of town.

Saw this on KOGT.com 1st Annual GTB/Hitters Inc. Baseball Clinic will be this Saturday, February 28th held at Hitters Inc and BCLL Fields. Ages 5-8 will meet from 9:00 - 12:00 and Ages 9-14 will meet from 1:00 - 4:00. To register come by Hitters Inc. for application or show up 30 minutes prior to your time slot. GTB/Hitters Inc coaching staff will be providing instruction to kick of the Little League Season. Cost is $25 per player and each additional family member will be $15. Any questions email Sam Moore at [email protected]. Hitters Inc is located at the BCLL complex on Parkside in Bridge City.

Didn't you guys lose in the next round to Tomball ? We were really surprised by that. We had played Tomball earlier in the season and thought you guys had the much better team. That's great stuff guys, just what the thread is about. *sniff ... sniff * Someone hand me a tissue, you guys are getting all sentimental and making me tear up I was also at those Channelview games in '82 and remember the shot off he hit off you, Dip ... ouch. Good thing you shut them down after that and went on to win. Matty may have gotten some of his pitching ability from the Matthews' genes ... but it's a good thing he does NOT take after you with his bat! ;D

The smartest man in the area turns out to be Bridge City's baseball manager. By letting his only underclass starting pitcher face Needville's only senior pitcher he set his team up for a two out of three game victory. He pitched his sophomore all year letting him gain experience for the playoffs, knowing all the time what he could expect from his seniors. Intuitively, Bryant knew that Needville's best chance for a victory would be the game pitched by their senior. So like a good chess player, conceding a pawn for a rook in the first game, he gave his team the best chance for victorys in the next two games. Of course he would have been happy with a win in the first game but that would only have accelerated his well layed plan. Although this plan did not guarantee a championship it certainly put his team in a position to win it. In the final two games Bridge City's senior pitchers would compete against Needville's sophomore and junior pitchers. Congratulations to Coach Bryant for continuing to out smart the opponent. Coaching at this level requires more than just filling out a lineup card. You must weigh the opponents strengths and calculate your chances over three games and at least twenty-one full innings of baseball. He has knowledge, confidence and an understanding of the game rarely found in high school coaches. He knows his players and he knows the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents. Just one example was when he bunted his clean-up hitter, the designated hitter, with two on and nobody out. Did anyone expect that? Could either of Needville's corners? The batter executed a great bunt. The runners advanced. Well done. A coaches job is to give his team the best chance to win, and he continues to do just that. Thanks also to the first base coach and bench coach for all the time, teaching, and patience with our student atheletes. The community is lucky to have such dedicated educators. None of Bridge City's baseball fans are ready for the season to end, so good luck to all the players and coaches. Now go beat Jasper.

In Bridge City ... Matt Hicks was recently inducted into the National Honor Society, and is in the top 5% of the class of 2010. He joins existing NHS athletes Blake Hubbard & Grant Encalade. Good job guys! If I've left out any other BC baseball players, please forgive me.

Meanwhile, Jasper wants another State run and Bridge City would love nothing better than to go to State themselves. from KOGT.com Blake Hubbard hit two homeruns and collected 4 RBI's in Bridge City's 16-5 win over Orangefield Friday. Casey Jackson added a homerun and Matt Hicks was 4-5 with 3 RBI's. Jaden Dillon got the win on the mound.

from KOGT.com Bridge City sweeps Kelly in a doubleheader on Saturday. Blake Snyder pitched a complete game and Matt Hicks hit a home run and Casey Jackson had 2 rbi's to propel the Cards to a 7-3 game one victory. In the second game Jason Clark went wild. He hit two home runs including a grand slam and a double to finish with 9 rbi's in the 26-9 victory. Jackson added 4 RBI's. The Cards used 4 pitchers and Kelly used about 6 pitchers in this wild affair.

I think Mathews is playing very well at 2nd, also Moseley "Spelling" looked very good Defensively... You spelled Moseley correct but both of you missed on "Matthews" ... The surname with only one 't' means their ancestors were outlaws, at least thats what I've always heard. ;D

Bridge City/Silsbee game cancelled today and rescheduled for 5:30 Wednesday @ Silsbee.

From KOGT.com sports Friday: Bridge City baseball started out the season on a cold and wet Friday night with a 5-1 win over Huntington. Blake Snyder pitched four innings and picked up the win, and Matt Hicks pitched the last three for the save. Anthony Ceesac, Matt Hicks, Blake Snyder, and Casey Jackson all hit doubles to provide the firepower for the Cardinals. Saturday: Bridge City finished the Lumberton tourney by defeating Deweyville 19-2, and Lumberton 10-4 in the nightcap. In the first game Anthony Cessac picked up the win and Joseph Robertson the save, with the big blow coming from Jason Clark with a three RBI double to get things started for the Cardinals. Against Lumberton Matt Hicks hit a solo home run and Blake Snyder followed the next inning by blasting a three run home run. Jason Clark got the win and Jaden Dillon finished up for the Cardinals third staight win to start the season.

Several area players already have their own 'Nutty Buddy' purchased last season. Word is not only are they stronger, but much more comfortable to wear. Sizes range from the Hammer (youth) to Mongo(XL) ... no other explanation necessary. ;D
