1. Matt Hicks plays with the Louisiana All Stars 18U Blue team out of Baton Rouge.
2. Pony League all stars because he had to cut his hair in high school. I think the pic was taken in Winnie. Bottom pic is from a tournament in Oklahoma when he was 13.
3.
Gingersnap,  I still say Matt should have pick Sam Houston,  I know someone that would be willing to go back for a couple years and keep an eye on him,,LOL
I'm sending him far away from your influence!  :o
4. Shaggy hair?  ;D [img][Hidden Content]] [img][Hidden Content]]
5. Game 2 on Saturday shows to be at 3pm in this thread and 2pm in playoff schedules/scoreboard thread. Can someone please confirm Saturday's start time?  Thanks!
6. Summer Creek HS is at 14000 Weckford Blvd, Houston 77044, near the intersection of Beltway 8 and West Lake Houston Parkway.  GCMPats, Is the majority of Beltway 8 construction between IH10 and Hwy 90, or between HWY 90 and W Lake Houston Parkway?  Thanks in advance.
7. Directions according to bing.com maps:   IH10 to Houston to Exit 781A Take ramp right for Beltway 8 N / Sam Houston Pkwy N toward Sam Houston Pkwy (4 miles) Take ramp right for E Beltway 8 / E Sam Houston Pkwy N toward Liberty / Houston (8 miles) Turn left onto W Lake Houston Pkwy; Keep straight onto N Lake Houston Pkwy  (1.2 miles) Turn right onto Weckford Blvd;  Summer Creek HS is at 14000 Weckford Blvd, Houston 77044 This school is so new that aerial views show road construction and Google maps says Weckford doesn't exist.  SCHS is located at 14000 Weckford Boulevard, near the intersection of Beltway 8 and West Lake Houston Parkway adjacent to the Summerwood community on the shores of Lake Houston.  An aerial view of the school shows the baseball stadium to be way in the back, between tennis courts and football stadium.  It appears you take a left upon entering school grounds and follow the road around the school to a large parking lot.  Hope this helps.
8. Matt was courted by Lamar and other teams quite heavily up until the day he signed with ULL.  He has tons of respect for their program and Lamar's coaches have followed Matt's baseball career since he started attending their camps at age 6 or 7.  He visited with the Lamar staff and listened to what they had to offer.  He wants to pitch and still play infield.  Several of the colleges that showed interest could not guarantee him playing on a regular basis.  Matty did not want to choose a team where he had chances of being red-shirted or sitting the bench often, as was the case with larger universities.  Ultimately it was Matt's decision and he chose ULL which offered him a rare full-ride scholarship.  Since I only live 5 minutes from the Lamar stadium, it would have been great for me, but it's not about me or anyone else.  It's about Matt and his desire to play ball at a higher level.  My advice to him is to get an education and have fun playing ball as long as you can.  Oh and by the way, he say's he's only 5'8" but standing next to him yesterday ... I'd swear he's taller than that.  :o
9.
...All that select teams are about is to live out a dad or moms dream and to make some wanna be, has been coach money while that dream lives. I have seen it too many times!
You are SO WRONG in that statement.  My dream is to have a happy, well adjusted son that has all the opportunities to make himself a better person.  His choice is to play ball year round, not mine.  I'd much rather him focus his career toward pre-med ... That would make ME happy.  :)
10. Way to go - GI Joe!  Your hard work and dedication has paid off.  ;D
11. Way to go Jace & Jacob!  It's been a pleasure watching the two of you grow up on the ball field.  I know your parents are very proud.  They deserve a round of applause for helping you get to where you are now.  Best of luck in the future! (Unless you are playing BC)  ;)
12. BC's Hicks signs with U of L-Lafayette  [Hidden Content] Matt has worked very hard for this achievement.  His respect and dedication to the sport has consumed every part of his life.  I was afraid he would not see this day after breaking his leg in 2004.  Few people know he spent time in the hospital in 2001, quarantined with meningitis.  He doesn't let anything stand in the way of his dream. One thing not mentioned in these articles is the fact that he is in the top 5% of his senior class. With a GPA well over 3.5, he will receive "Academic Aid" which waives all out of state tuition.  Matt was awarded a "full-ride" scholarship, not very common in baseball from what I understand.   I'd like to personally thank all of you that have supported Matty and enjoyed watching him play for the past 12 years. Matt's very proud mom
13. Next Level, your post confused me. You started out by saying the LCM players did not play for SD or GTB but then say they played for Big Timers, a predecessor of GTB . I believe BCcardbacker was asking if her son does not play for a "showcase" team in addition to his high school team, what are his chances of being seen by scouts and advancing to play at the next level. Actually all of these young men from LCM have been playing ball with various travel teams for many years. Not to take anything away from Coach Griff, but they were exceptional ball players before they entered in high school. This was due to the players dedication and love of the sport. I do agree however that Coach Griff was a great influence and made sure his players were seen by all available scouts. Best of luck to all the guys with college ball. Here's hoping the next level of scouts will see you there and you can continue with your dreams.
14. I've had the pleasure of watching this young man grow up playing baseball. What a wonderful example of how a family can be supportive and help make their son's dream come true. I personally wish Jace, Kevin, Ms Laura, and Danielle only the best in all they do.
15. I can see where this has been a dream come true for Jacob and his parents. Best of Luck at UT!

17. The key is to exit I-10 to the right (north) and stay on Beltway 8 FRONTAGE Road, not entering the toll freeway. It is the next main exit on Katy Fwy after Gessner, past downtown and the west side of Loop 610. Stay north on the frontage rd and you'll pass a red light at the intersection of Hammerly Blvd with a Burger King in the convenience store. Stay alert toward the right after that intersection. The Baseball USA sign is low to the ground and sneaks up on you. The park will be on the right side of the frontage road before you reach Clay Rd.
