  1. LCM Junior plays at 7 against WOS White. Will report after the game.
  2. Congrats Nederland Black. Shaping up to be an all Nederland Superbowl this year.
  3. just a few ponts away from "running up the score." Saw a post on another thread where Nederland had stomped another team, to which a reply was made that 21 points isn't really stomping the opponent. Well the responder must not have been up to date on the rules. Hard to stomp another team without recourse. Congrats on the win Nederland White. Wish you guys the best this year. We all know that you probably could have won by more, but you were being true to the spirit of the rule.

  6. Game ended early due to some elevated anger, shall we say.
  7. Mistro...the direction was not coming from a parent or coach. The kids are savvy enough to know they won't get to play a position unless under a certain weight. With my kid, I told him I would support him but in no way would I make him lose the weight. We would run miles together (in shorts and t shirt) and I told him to eat all the protein he wanted while staying clear of sodas and sweets. The other kid who ran in a sweat suit and ate broth, I can't totally speak for the parents. I do know the parents did not push the kid. The kid chose to run and reduced sweets and sodas out of his diet. As far as the chicken broth and sweat suit, I don't know who was behind that idea. My kid in no way starved. He worked his tail off, with me by his side the whole way, and was in tip top shape when the season began (we typically ran late in the evening due to my work schedule, so it wasn't blazing hot). He ate all of the chicken, beef, fish, and veggies he wanted. Just quit the donuts, sodas, and other sweets. I've also seen my kid worry every year about the weight. Year 1, he was the only one on the team with a LO sticker. He was very self concious about it.
  8. Mistro...I didn't sweat my kid down, and neither did the other parent. Both were the kids themselves wanting to have the opportunity to play a position. I personally told my son that Junior High and High School won't have the dumb weight requirements. My son can't help that he is a good head taller than most kids his age. He doesn't want to be confined to offensive line only. I highly doubt that any parent is sweating their kid down for little league football. It's competitive, but that is over the top. The problem is that the KIDS are looking to get the weight off. Again, line only is fine, but should be able to play on offense or defense.
  9. Another rule in would like to see changes is the weight limits. I'm fine with LO, but I see more potential for injury with OL. This places larger kids on offense against necessarily smaller kids on defense. Why can't an equally sized boy play defense against a larger O lineman? This also plays out with the kids. My son is about 5 ft 5 in, 155 lbs as a 10 year old. Last year he ran 3 miles daily and went no carbs and water only to lose weight for weigh in to play defense. No doubt, a week later, the weight is back on, but he passed the day of weigh in. Another boy on our team ate nothing but chicken broth and water for two weeks, while running miles in a sweat suit to lose the weight to play Defensive End. My opinion is that is not healthy for a kid. They are growing. We didn't battle it this year. Asked to play up on senior, but the senior team was pretty full and junior team a bit lite. Fine with LO, bit I believe the defensive line should be able to match size with the offensive line
  10. Thanks Ned. Good luck (though they don't need it) to the Nederland boys this year. They always have a good team.
  11. Who has the large QB and FB? Can't say I've seen them. Then again, I mostly see the small schools teams.
  12. There you go. I could go for that. Maybe it's not the rule as much as the application of the rule.
  13. Post your thoughts on dumb rules (and the spirit of the rule) within the STJFL organization. I personally feel we need to eliminate the rule (and spirit of the rule) with regards to running up the score. A team and/or coach should not be penalized for playing their best. Let the teams play and the score be what it is. No way should a team be required to forfeit a game for scoring too many points. Come on now...grow up. What's your least favorite rule?
  14. LCM has Lum R this weekend. Is this the good team? Is this the coach on the ethics committee? Sure would hate for a small school to whip their tail by 40 points and break the "spirit of the rule."
  15. So therein lies the issue. Why are we punishing kids for playing their best. If a coach continues to "pour on the heat" when they are obviously going to win, I could possibly support some action against the coach. Even then, why do we care? When I was a kid, there was no penalty for scoring too many points. Then again, I don't think I ever received a participation trophy either.
  16. A couple of things here. First, what caused the forfeit in the superbowl. I wasn't aware of this? Secondly, why is there a rule about running up the score? When will we let these kids grow up? I would not fAult a team for giving their best every single down. What angers me is when we beat ourselves by not executing properly or getting overly confident. Will a kid truly be crushed if they lose by 50 points or so? If that's the case, maybe sports isn't for that kid, or they should play better. What am I missing here?
  17. Schedule attached if anyone wants to project.
  18. We will know for sure later in the season. Definitely didn't have anything to do with our 1 practice for the week. No doubt, we deserved to lose. We went into a conference game unprepared. Congratulations Orangefield. You guys definitely played a good game.Don't want to take anything away from your game today. Just seriously frustrated with our play today.
  19. Bears played horribly. Missed blocks by line, missed tackles by defense, and too manly turnovers. Our guys no doubt beat themselves. Had we played like we have the past two weeks, then we could know for sure. Orangefield may well have won anyway, but I can't say for sure. That was the poorest performance I've seen from this team. It was embarrassing.
  20. Heard That! Couldn't very well pull for Of with a handle like Battlin' Bear. Mght be hung for treason.
  21. Hunch...we did. Beat them the first round in Jasper and went undefeated until the superbowl. Guess everyone has an off day sometimes. That being said, Jasper has a good team.
  22. I've seen the current senior team beat Nederland in the past (peewee year). These guys have gone undefeated for the past several years. Not saying that Nederland couldn't beat them, but it would be a good game. I believe LCM Sr. could give Nederland a challenge.
