  1. Jordan Chandler won her first match then lost to the #1 seed. Cody finished 4th.
  2. Cody Lutrell made the semifinals in singles. He is playing the #1 seed tomorrow morning. He is the only local player to make it to the 2nd day.
  3. Couple of corrections here. Deaver is not ranked in the top 50 nationally. He is ranked 90 something in the state. Also, he lost in the state finals last year and the semis 2 years ago. That being said, he has a great chance to win state this year. If he wins it would be the first tennis state title for this area since Jason Catchings of Hardin in the early 90's.
  4. Zats are USTA tournaments. There is one in the Houston area every month. They are divided by age groups. 12, 14 16, 18.
  5. You have to start in the Zats. If you get 65 points in your best 4 tournaments you qualify for Champs. Once you are in Champs you have to get 80 points in your best 3 Major Zones to qualify for Supers.
  6. She is back playing again. I heard she made the finals of the 2 tournaments she has played so far. Lost to Meridith Miller of Bridge City both times. Hopefully Jordan is back working hard again. I haven't talked to her in lately, so I don't know for sure.
  7. I am no longer in Beaumont area so you guys help me keep up. Who won in the tournament today?
  8. The 4 semi-finalist from last years 2A region III tournament all graduated. There were 3 champs and a superchamp last year and the super got 4th. It should be wide open this year, but you never know.
  9. This seems to be a never ending debate, so I took some time and looked up the usta rankings of all the boys singles finalists. For this year, at least, we can let the numbers speak for themselves. 2A- #12 S18 d. #81 S18 3A- #204 S18 d. #141 S18 4A- #15 S18 d. #41 S16 5A- #10 S18 d. #156 S18 The 2nd place kid in 5A is a bit misleading. He just moved from Louisiana and has only played 1 tournament.
  10. Yeah, Klores is a beast. I have been telling people how good that kid is for 4 years. No one ever believes me, because they assume 2A tennis sucks. Klores would have won state in 4A and 5A the last 2 years, and I'm sure he will be the best player in any draw this year.
  11. Scott Carnley of Warren won the region III-2A boys singles event in Tyler today. Scott advances to the state tournament on May 5&6.
  12. 2A- Wednesday April 2 at Lamar 3A- 4A- Tuesday April 8 at Vidor
  13. Scott Carnley won the boys A draw singles. Was Tyler Angelle in the B draw?

  16. Yeah, either Deaver was starting out slow or the competition is a little better this year. Deaver played Scott Carnley in the semis and the first set was 6-4, then Deaver rolled to a 6-0 second set.
  17. Boy's Singles A draw- Matthew Deaver def Grant Lopez in 3 sets B draw- Nederland def Foster Girls Singles A draw- Rose Cabato(Foster) def Erin Kelley (Orangefield) B draw- Foster vs Nederland don't know who won Boy's Doubles A draw- Foster def Nederland B draw- Foster def Foster Girl's Doubles A draw- Foster def West Brook B draw- Foster def Foster Mixed doubles LC-M def Bridge City
  18. Must have been the small school draw. My guys from Foster won the big school doubles.
  19. Tomorrow is the 1st varsity tournament of the year. Cathedral is hosting I think. Lamar is next week and Kelly after that. The Cathedral tournament should be pretty interesting in boys singles, all the champs and supers are playing except for Bug and Scott Carnley. Bug is recovering from an apendectomy and Warren doesn't start until next week. As tough as this week is, the Lamar tournament could be just nasty. Scott and Bug will both be back and my players from Foster High School in Richmond are coming over to play it. Foster has 5 champ boys, 2 more boys that were champs recently, a super girl and a champ girl.
  20. You missed a few champs: Erin Kelly (g18) Emily Parma (g14) Emily Pfister(g12) Patrick Lemasters (b14)
