  1.     Deweyville will be to physical for Elysian Fields. EF has a great QB and some really good wideouts, but their team will not stand up to the punishment that the Pirates bring every week. Pirates    63 Yellow Jackets  31
  2.     Deweyville is playing really great football right now. I am so proud of the boys and the coaching staff. Newton has a great team this year and I wish them the best in their playoff run. EC would not be able to handle Deweyville's huge front. The Pirates would still be in the playoffs in that district. All this may be fun to talk about, but Deweyville needs to get ready for Elysian Fields in the area round of the playoffs. The Pirates will be to physical for the Yellow Jackets. Pirates 63    Yellow Jackets  31 GO PIRATES!!!! GO EAGLES!!!!! Congrats to the BUCS on their overtime win over Troup!!!!
  3.     GREAT JOB PIRATES!!!!  YOU BOYS AND YOUR COACHES SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF YOUR DISTRICT TITLE. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT SEASON SO FAR. GOOD LUCK IN THE PLAYOFFS. I KNOW YOU WILL BE READY. GO PIRATES!!!!!!
  4. 89falcon,     I must have missed the part were you wished the Pirates well, and let me thank you for you good wishes if I overlooked them. There is no need to explain to me about 1A and 2A football and the fact that a small group of talented kids can make or break a team. I am fully aware of that fact. The question for you was: Do you think this years team would perform on this high level with last years coaching staff?     I do hope you are right about next years team, because two district titles in a row would be great. I still think you do not realize the impact it will have on this team to graduate 15 senior starters. You are  probably right about the decline in two years, but with the great coaching we have, the boys will be ready to play. GO PIRATES!!!
  5. 89falcon, I can see that your mind is made up when it comes to the Pirates. What I can not understand is your fascination with the junior class and why you will not give any credit to the new staff. The juniors are some very talented players, but with the Pirates having over 60% senior starters, how is this a young junior dominated group. Do you really think this team could perform on this high level under last years coaches? Give the new coaches and the seniors some credit. We also have an outstanding soph. #4, a couple of other sophmores that contribute. I think every Pirate player from the 2nd string JV substitute to the two way Varsity starter and all the coaches should get credit for this strong season. Great job to everybody envolved, the whole Pirate community is behind you guys. GO PIRATES!!!!
  6. It is a difficult call to compare two teams with different coaches. Last years team had so many players out of position and such a poor scheme. This years team is organized and playing well. The Junior and Senior class this year have always been a dominant group since they were 6 years old. I do wish that last years seniors would have had the organization and the dedication of this coaching staff. Deweyville will have 7 defensive and 6 offensive senior starters leaving this team and there will be some big shoes to fill in the defensive core and the O-line. Time will tell how well next years squad will fare, but I know the coaching staff will have them ready to play. Congrats on all the accomplishments by past players and coaches, great job this year, and good luck in the future. GO PIRATES!!!
  7. The 85 team did make the playoffs as the district runner-up. Burkeville was District Champions that season with a 5-0 district record. Deweyville, West Hardin, and Hull-Daisetta all finished with 3-2 district records and a 3 way tie for 2nd place. Deweyville went to the playoffs in 2nd after winning the tie-breaker. Not sure what the tie-breaker was back then, but I no it was not points, because West Hardin would have went on point dif. Deweyville lost to Alto and Burkeville lost to Groveton in the first round that year.
  8.       Everyone has been giving the Deweyville O-Line alot of praise and they deserve it, but I can promise you this unit would not be dominating their opponents without Coach Webb calling the shots. Coach Webb has this powerful unit clicking on all cylinders. Great job coach!!!
  9.     Why all the negative comments about the Pirate football team 89falcon? This team is having a great season and we are very proud of the players and our new coach. To say that all the other teams in our district are no good or down is not right. CC has had some major injuries this year (QB #8, RB #22, RB #10, LB #44), but all these players were healthy when we played the first ditrict game. New Waverly returned 11 senior starters. In this group was #42 (FB,LB) that dominated us last year on both sides of the ball. This year #42 was not a factor in the game because we had the right players in the right positions to tend to business. Groveton is better than they were last year and returned alot of starters on both sides of the ball. Hemphill is missing their talented QB (best athlete in the district), but seeing how we could have scored about 100 points if our starters played the entire game, his playing would have not changed the outcome. Anderson-Shiro is young and has a long way to go. Give the boys and Babin some credit, they deserve it.       A special THANKS to all the Corrigan Camden Bulldogs and everyone else who has supported the Pirates this year. After the Corrigan game my son told me that their players and coaches were the most respectful he had ever faced in his three years of varsity football, and no matter how intense the game became, the players always kept their cool. It is easy to understand why the Bulldogs are always toward the top, and their coaches, players, and community should be proud. I hope that with what the Pirates accomplish this season we are able to start our own tradition of hard play and respect for the game.
  10.     When I say "big, mean, and nasty" in reference to the D'ville O-Line, I mean that in a good way. They are very quick, strong, big, and aggressive. We have had some great players the last few years, and now we have a coach to move those players in the right direction.
  11.     The fall of 82 was Deweyville's last district title, and the Pirate's third in as many years. The Pirates finished the season undefeated that year. They were then beat 30-0 by Garrison in the bi-district round of the playoffs. Deweyville has made the playoffs 4 more times over the years in 2nd or 3rd place, but is 0-7 in playoff games. When the Pirates beat Groveton Friday night it will be the first District title in 30 years.     The Pirates are big and powerful on the O-line. The line averages 252 lbs. from tackle to tightend and they are mean and nasty. The best I have seen at Deweyville. Our stable of backs are really strong and they run hard. Coach Babin  has done an outstanding job this year and will have the boys ready to play.  Groveton may have the fastest, most talented backfield in the Distict, but the Pirates will be to much for the Indians.                                                                     Deweyville  57                                   Groveton    24 GO PiRATES!!!!
