1. He ran a 13.08 today at district. Don't know how official it is but that's definitely what they announced
2. I'd have to put most of it on the kids. Like some of you have said they just aren't like they used to be anymore. Coaches, mainly the head, should only have to worry about football issues. But then you have kids with attitude problems that are like a virus that spread amongst the team. You have to address that and go through character building steps to get everyone on the same page. Each scenario is different actually so there's never just one way to look at it. Then again I've heard plenty of people say "A good kid will get you fired." LOL! Those were college coaches mainly. Then in some of these other programs the kids already have hard work and commitment built into their mindset so all the coach has to do is focus on coaching. Also the kids in some of these smaller towns know where they're going and what they're doing in the next level. In Beaumont you have kids splitting up between the three main school, even the private schools take a few here and there, and on top of that plenty of politics and redistricting which just.........I'll stay out of that for now. But in the end it's just too many variables and few times it's the coaches' fault, but almost all of the time it's the players. I don't know a coach who's ever taught their kid to not win.
3. After looking at Ty's post I'm a little more undecided on this issue now. 30+% out of the area is pretty high, but I'm not sure about the people they have either. Are we sure these area kids on the roster aren't walk-ons, or were they actually recruited? Then I do believe we do have athletes with college here (just maybe not the best college grades), and Lamar isn't really difficult for them to get into. Had you noticed some of Memorial's schemes in the past years, that has college football written all over it. But even though we may not be in favor of who they go after, at least we can agree they can do a whole lot better.
4. It's a pretty ridiculous rule that I'm sure he didn't know anything about. Well either way someone had called it in to UIL and it was done from there. Trouble just seems to find them while they are on probation.
5. Yea apparently they have some big school vs little school thing going on. It's like there are 2 big and 2 little schools in each division. Therefore the #1big goes against the #2big in each division and vice versa etc.......It just confused the heck out of me and is upsetting quite a few people from what i heard.
6. LCM goes if they win AND Central loses Central goes if they win point blank Ozen goes if Central loses AND LCM loses AND Ozen wins
7. I have to go with Vidor. NEVER seen them back down from anyone. They just need to keep their stances low, eyes up, full speed to the ball, and do what they can to stop that good LCM running back. Pretty much the same way they've been playing all season.
8.
I have a theory and it applies to any school. I feel like the coaching at lower levels needs as much attention as it does at higher levels.. If you start preparing the middle school players by getting them bigger, faster, and stronger it will pay off huge dividends in high school.. Now I don't Lumberton's situation at the lower levels, I'm just making a point. I looked at Nederlands size and speed and compared it to Lumberton's and it's light years apart.
I would be so jealous of people who have programs like that. I love the way some places even have the younger groups practicing their on their school grounds. Running the same plays, hearing the same vergabe, and doing the same thing from youth to adolescence to adulthood definitely has an upper advantage as a player. But I would watch the bigger and stronger aspect of it until high school cuz I wouldn't want to stunt anyone else's growth.
9. Like someone said earlier on this thread: "I just don't see Central's line playing good enough against an extremely tough Bulldog defensive line." I didn't get to see Central's last game but heard Mitchell went off and know they have gotten much better since they played Ozen. Of course Nederland will rest their starters in the second half or 4th quarter for sure, but by that time the game may be too out of reach. Injury free game I hope and whoever makes it into the playoffs goes far.
10. I will have to go with Ozen on this one as well. Lumberton is a good team and want revenge from last years blowout but I just don't see any surprises in this one. But I still believe that anything can happen. "That's why they play the game"
11. This is some real Texas football right here.
12. It is true about Galveston Ball. I remember the stories about that when Central was 5A (yes long time ago). But nowadays I'd say either PNG or Vidor. But you haven't seen it all until you see kids barking at you in Nederland walking to and from the visitor's side. LOL!
