  1. gotcha.  I saw activity going on at the JR high but there was so much action going on on the varsity field that I could barely keep up there. Yes, the #2 from both Pool A and Pool B beat the #1's in the Semi's. Crosby #1 has a good group of DB's.  I can see lots of INT's from that group this year.
  2. Couger14, I thought Crosby #2 team beat PNG this weekend.  If PNG did beat Crosby #2, that means they were 1-1 and with a chance to make to the semis by beating Kincaid. But went home instead.
  3. yep, PNG lost to Crosby JV, lost to GCM and then went home.  I did not hear if there was an injury or why the left.
  4. Coach Smith is doing an outstanding job getting the Sterling program competitive again.  He is doing the small stuff that is exciting the kids and have parents fully behind him.
  5. Poor PNG boys got tired after playing 2 games and went home.  >:( Kincaid won their last game by forfeit and had a 2 hour + break before moving on to the champion ship rounds.  They looked very fresh and rested compared to both GCM and RSS.  Kincaid has a very solid QB.  He had to of been the best one of the 8 teams.  RSS and Crosby QB's were right behind. RSS had lots of drops, a few bad throws, and a few interceptions off tipped or dropped passes.  Defensively, our DB's and linebackers were spent.  All of which were the total opposite of their earlier games. Overall, this was a good exercise for the offensive side of the ball.  QB is learning to look off coverage and receivers are learning to work through coverage and being a little more aggressive when the ball is in the air.  Miles for RSS looks to be a very good receiver he has height and speed.  Acosta at the slot is so shifty and works well in coverage. I know it is only 7 on 7 during the summer but this is the kind of success they can be proud of and get things turned around.  There is still A LOT of improvement that can be made but a small taste of success is what they needed. Alexander for GCM is going to do some damage to opposing defenses.
  6. Semis @ 2:30 Kincaid v Crosby #1 RSS vs GCM
  7. Correction. GP is 0-2 and play Crosby #1 later 1-1 RSS playing 0-1 Huffman. RSS win puts them in semis 2-0 GCM playing 0-2 or 0-1 Crosby #2
  8. Results so far Pool A GCM 2-0 Crosby #2, 1-1 Kincaid, 0-1 GP, 0-1 Pool B Crosby #1, 2-0 RSS, 1-1 GP, 0-1 Huffman, 0-1
  9. GCM beat Png easily Crosby #1 beat rss 35, 26
  10. GCM currently beating PNG 12-0 with 10:30 left
  11. RSS beat GP in game 1, Crosby beat Huffman in game 2 Crosby taking it to RSS on both sides of the ball.  RSS drives stall, Crosby picking apart the D PNG v GCM looks like good game
  12. Joebob - I believe they are going to more of a proset with the new OC.  Do you know anything about the new AD?  All I saw was his record on Maxpreps for the last 4 years and it ain't purty.
  13. LP has the smallest enrollment numbers in the district yet they are a very strong team.  What are these smaller schools doing that Baytown schools are not?  Is it coaching?  And I am not talking about only coaching at the HS level but at JR level and below?
  14. Bernard Mulvaney hired as new AD for GCCISD.  Was head coach at Aldine Macarthur since 2009.  Anyone know anything about him?  All I see is his record as shown on maxpreps is 10-32 overall record and 4-22 district record. I assume by the hire that record as head coach does not have much weight in the hiring decision.  Maybe he had previous success elsewhere? I sure hope there is more to him or his ability/vision for Baytown sports than what Max preps show of his record over the last 4 years.
  15. To me there are game changers and then everyone else that competes would be classified as athletes.  The difference in a game changer and athlete compared to a regular student is that the game changer and athlete are putting in the time and effort in the offseason and regular season to get better at their position or skill set.  And a regular student may work out but is only for healthy lifestyle or to impress the girls. The game changer and athlete are the same except the game changer has God given talents, height/weight, speed or the like that far exceed other athletes.  Now, just because a player is on the team does not make them an athlete.  That honor comes from actually putting in the work to be a true athlete. There are some exceptions but in general, our game changers produce like athletes and our athletes produce like students.  That is the culture that has to change.  I would love to see RSS football get back to when I was there under the likes of Coach Bundy.  Bundy, Hawthorne, Stewart and those coaches kept the guys going hard and constantly improving.
  16. I am at a loss BG.  I am not trying to take anything away from the other schools in the district with this comment but, I don't buy it that other schools have better a pool of athletes.  There are athletes in Baytown.  For whatever reason, they get to high school and start getting left behind by the likes of PAM, NS, LP, WB, etc.  The only thing I can think of would be work ethic as being the difference. I know it is more than just having a good coach, but also the players and parents that have to make it a priority.  I heard a quote one time that said something like "the role of a coach is to get players to do what they don't want to do in order to become the player they've always dreamed of being."  I think it was Lombardi but am not sure.  We have some skill players but some think they just show up without putting in the time to train.  And how do you get the big boys out of the halls?  Maybe the moon and stars have to align just right for the right group of boys to come through that excels in spite of the poor work ethic or maybe it is finding "that" coach that is a lightning rod of change.
  17. What do you mean RSS doesn't have the numbers?  They are the 3rd largest school in the district.  I guess you mean they don't have the numbers participating?
  18. no, not saying that at all.  Excuses (like dirty butts) are easy come by.  It is hard enough to get the kids motivated.  Knowing the HC isn't going to be there is just another dirty butt excuse.  I, in know way know the answer.  But I do believe it is going to take the right coach or coach/system combination or even more accurate the right coach/system/class come together at the same time to get the culture changed.  It just seems to me that in 2 years, we went the wrong way.  If the HC is headed out, why not go ahead and start the process now? Maybe it has to do with contract term?  I really do not know.  Hell, maybe there is just so much apathy in the community that another year is just another year.
  19. Ya think there will be scouts.  Not a matter of if, just how many.
  20. With only 1 win in 2 seasons, why would GCCISD let him stay for another year if he is retiring?  I have heard he is retiring also and has at least a full leg out the door.  Heard other coaches are stepping up and pushing the program forward.  Let's hope that if that is true, that he stays out of the way.
  21. I have seen the kid from Dayton when he was in Jr high and high school and he is all that.  Dayton had a couple kids in that group that are game changers.
  22. All I heard was the old OC left because his wife received a great job offer somewhere else in Texas.  I have heard nothing but good things about him and havent heard anything that would indicated there were any performance issues.  My son says he has jumped all over him and he was always respectful and never cussed him out like other coaches.
  23. Grimes is the OC, I assume he will call the plays because last year the OC called the plays.  We will have to see what they do in the pass game.  The last couple years they worked passing very little in practice.  With little practice and throwing 3 times a game it would be difficult for anyone to get in a rhythm. Unless someone moves into town, I think the best they have is the kid that finished the year at QB last year.  The kid can throw but it looked like him and the receivers were not on the same page last year.  There were several times that receivers cut their route short only for the ball to go off the finger tips.  That is tough on a receiver because they just don't see enough game speed reps.
