looks like a good hire. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical as well. Never really heard of a middle school coach hired as a head coach; however, I know that the coach knew a lot of the kids playing for Kelly since he coached them at St. Anne's.

Kelly tends to be underrepresented in most sports. There was a period of 5 or 6 years when the Kelly softball team was one of the best in the area (would beat just about every area public school 3A and 4A team) but would still not get much recognition. Probably because we are a smaller private school. That's why I appreciate this forum where we can get the chatter going! GO DAWGS!!

As a Kelly High grad, I can guarantee you that Kelly wont be giving up Mike Long without a fight. I can see why you would want him though

I hope that PNG is able to improve next year...this season has to be a disappointment for many of the PNG fans. Although I am not from PNG or Central, I always hate to hear that violence was resorted to in high school football. As for the recent comments on this board, I can see both sides of the argument. PNG has some of the most loyal fans in all of SETexas and that is something to be very proud of. If I played at PNG, I would be encouraged to know that no matter how our season is going, we still have a crowded stadium. I can also see where fans of other schools might be frustrated with the amount of attention that PNG receives. As a graduate of Kelly high, we never received a substantial amount of media coverage (especially our softball team that won TWO state championships in the past four years and beat most of the 4A public schools in this area). For other fans of public schools, they may see the amount of PNG media coverage as biased. For example, every week there is a special feature on PNG player/coach in the PA news. While the player might deserve special accolades, I am sure that there are other players/coaches that would love to see their team/player in a feature. It seems that players that wear purple and white are treated as celebrities from the media. However, THIS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE FANS!! I wish all schools had a fan base like PNG

yea theres a shocker. a kelly fan getting on and saying matt kirby then announcing that the whole team is solid enouph to be listed. rite. yes kelly ran thru the nederland tournament undefeated . and not to mention they had already been playing their season for how many weeks prior to that while the rest of the area.. this was their first weekend of soccer.. I really dont like excuses...everyone knew when Kelly entered that tournament that they were in the middle of their season. So what? The other teams had time to practice. I know that Kelly might have been more polished because of they were in the midst of a season, but they also beat Vidor (or Lumberton? cant remember) 7-0. Also, Matt Kirby was out for a large amount of the game against Nederland!! Yet, they still won 3-0! I think that proves Kelly is great even without Kirby

Matt Kirby from kelly is really good. In face the entire Kelly team is pretty solid. They were the only team to go undefeated in that Nederland round robin. They are in bidistrict next week
