  1. Kasey Kahne: Based on how he ran at Atlanta — winning the pole and the race — Kahne's got to be one of the odds-on favorites. He won the Busch race at Texas last year, too. If somone pinned me down and told me I could only pick one winner, it would be Kahne based past performance at these two tracks.
  2. NASCAR rebukes NBC for Dateline tactics CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR's governing body called a network television news magazine "outrageous" on Wednesday, saying it tried to provoke anti-Muslim reactions from spectators at last week's race for a story about growing U.S. sentiment against Islam. NASCAR said NBC's Dateline NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. The NBC crew was "apparently on site in Martinsville, Virginia, walked around and no one bothered them," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday. "It is outrageous that a news organization of NBC's stature would stoop to the level of going out to create news instead of reporting news," Poston said. "Any legitimate journalist in America should be embarrassed by this stunt. The obvious intent by NBC was to evoke reaction, and we are confident our fans won't take the bait," he said. NASCAR grew out of the rural southern U.S. and its history of modifying street automobiles outrun authorities in transporting illegal alcohol. Because of its southern origins, NASCAR has been cricitized for its fans displaying numerous flags of the Confederacy from the Civil War in the 19th century, an emblem many associate with racism. Dateline NBC also has been criticized in the past. In 1992, it aired a critical story about fuel tanks on a brand of pickup trucks, using video of the tanks exploding on impact. However, the network later apologized for using toy rockets to ignite the explosion. NASCAR is in the final year of a broadcasting agreement with NBC Sports. "Dateline is looking into this story," NBC said in a statement. "We were intrigued by the results of a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll and other articles regarding increasing anti-Muslim sentiments in the United States. "It's very early on in our newsgathering process, but be assured we will be visiting a number of locations across the country and are confident that our reporting team is pursuing this story in a fair manner," it said.

  7. Blue Zertuche TexasHoops.com Recruiting Analyst This past Saturday 6'7" Port Arthur Memorial senior, Dominique Keller took a visit to a junior college just an hour down the road from home and came back with a decision. After averaging a double-double this past year, Keller was contacted daily by Texas JUCO's, but it took just one visit to find the right fit. "I will be signning with Lee College on Tuesday," said Keller. "There was two reasons. One is because they are going to sign my point guard and power foward from my high school team." Keller spoke of inside player Jack Thomas and point guard Todderick Thomas, no relation. "And the other is because it is close to home." Over the years so many of Keller's family have been involved in his life and have taken the time out of their schedules to see him play basketball. "It was important for me to stay close to home so my family would be in driving distance to watch me play in college." Keller will take the opportunity that he has been given and make the most out of junior collge. "My goal is to play division I basketball," said Keller. "I have the tools, size and skills to play at that level." A few things caught Keller's attention once he was on campus. "I like the school and the gym. The gym is better than some D-I's. Just being on campus gave me a nice vibe about the school and people. I also like the class options. I will graduate with an associate's degree. I want to study business." The coaching staff at Lee need a player like Keller, with the departure of sophomore Mike White (he will be visiting Indiana this weekend). "Coach Champagne (head coach) said that Mike White will be graduating and that they need someone to take his spot. They need someone to run the show." Keller was being heavily recruited by most Eastern Confernce junior colleges. Texas Hoops Analysis: Domninique is a gong athlete, has solid post moves, and knows how to score on the low block. He works hard for the ball, has long arms, and can rebound and block shots. He runs the floor well, and needs to add weight and strength.
