  1. You want to get the best out of your players - you show them respect and work them hard and expect them to perform at a high level. Hate to say it but cussing a player is a serious sign of disrespect - there are other ways of motivating your players without cussing them. Now I have no problem with a Coach that yells and gets angry at a player that is not trying or doing their very best - you just don't have to cuss them.
  2. Puts the ball down - I mean while showboating places the ball on the one yard line - I assume he thought he was placing the ball just inside the goal line. Then he started to do some type of endzone dance till he noticed that we had the ball - got a huge (in the middle of the field) chewing by his coach. ;D
  3. This is easy - Player makes a long Run or Receives a long pass and showboats on the way to the endzone and either fumbles or puts the ball down inside the 5 yard line. Happen to us in a game - won't say how long ago - but a long time ago. Player caught a 98 yard touchdown pass - too bad it should have been a 99 yard pass. He tought he had crossed the goal line and placed the ball down on the 1 yard line. We recovered.
  4. Districe 22-A: Coldsprings - Great Athletes just have not had a coach to manage it. Cleveland - Same as above - If they could get BB players to play - watch out. Splendora - Coaches always seem to get the most out of what they have.
  5. Its a bad idea to questions any Coach about "Why" a student is not playing. The best approach is to ask "What can my son (or daughter) do to improve their chances of getting more playing time". Almost always they will tell you what is holding your child back - sometimes it can be corrected and other times it can't. We had a boy 2 years ago that was 6'4" and weighed over 250 Lbs but had the aggressiveness of a butterfly - a great kid - just not a football player. The parents couldn't see that he was more likely to get hurt than start. If he could get "mad" then he would have been a great player. Also, yelling at a Coach or talking trash about the Coach behind his back to other people normally will do nothing to help your child - while most Coaches will not punish then kid for the actions of the parent - some will. Best advice - ask your student to approach the Coaches and ask what they can do to help themsleves. Advice above is correct - show up for practice - work hard - and keep your nose clean - and generally you will get playing time. :-*
  6. WOS92 - This is a blog that will never be fair or changed. (1) Who decides what is a Tough schedule or a weak schedule (becase if you get your way everyone will schedule weak teams to be 4-0 or 5-0 in pre-district)? (2) Then who decides what is a close district to the team with the better record? (3) Then at what level do make the cut-off 5-5, 4-6 and if one team is 5-5 and another in a "close district" is 6-4 is it fair to allow that team to go to the playoffs? I believe that answer is a Loud - NO. I really believe that the only answer is to go back to the top 1 or 2 teams in each district make the playoffs. But even under that scenario a team with a losing record can still make the playoffs and it happend even before UIL allowed 3 teams to make the Playoffs. Then is it fair to allow a team from a "nearby" district go to the playoffs in place of the team that has won their district with a 4-6 record? Agian the answer is a resounding - NO it is not.
  7. This makes no sense. Liberty seems to be the whipping child on this site – and yes they have struggled during the last 2- 3 years – but so has every team in the state during a 20-year period. Liberty had a rough season last year when 3 starting seniors quit or where kicked off the team in the 1st three weeks of the season then 2 starting juniors where kicked off the team for other reasons. Also 2 starters from the previous year transferred to other schools – 1 went to H-D. Not many 3A teams can lose 7 – 8 starters and play to the level that they need to every week. Liberty also had to replace these starters in the middle of the season, But back to the UIL playoff discussion - Hell I went and played for the Katy Tigers when they couldn’t make the playoffs to save their lives. On who should go to the playoffs – its official the top 3 teams in the district get to go. If you happen to be in a weak district then you will be eliminated early. But through the years several teams that have entered the playoffs have gone deep – just 3 years ago a team with a 3 – 7 record won the regional game against a team that was 10 – 0 during the regular season – That’s why we play the games.
  8. Tarkington's Anthony Brooks is a decent quarterback – but to call him the best in the area is a little much. I have watched him play for the last three years and he has yet to really impress me. I will say that part of his problem is that he does not have a great offensive line or a quality core of receivers to work with. But with that said I believe he has yet to win a district game in 22AAA. If you can’t win a district game its hard to sell that you are the best QB in the area. In those 4 district games in 2006 he averaged just under 150 yards pasing per game – still a ways from being impressive. I have nothing against the Brooks boy but don’t crown him the best in the area till he proves it.
  9. Well I guess they need to teach better math in Yellow Jacket schools: Wins - 452 Losses - 336 Ties - 31 Winning percentage is 57% - What was yours 58% - Looks like over the years we been pretty even. But that does not show that we lost more than we have won. I will give Stephenville the fact that they have gone deeper in the playoffs more often than Liberty has - but as far as won/loss = tie.
  10. Rbarker – I apologize if you felt my comments were directed at you – you just were the last post to reflect this feeling. It appears to be widespread. I never meant to mean that you were the only one that I was referring too. By the way after reading my own post it may appear that I disrespect Barbers Hill and Huffman – I in no way meant to imply that. Barbers Hills and Huffman both have some of the most impressive athletic programs in the area in 3A and 4A both in talent and in sportsmanship – they deserve any accolades that they receive. But Liberty is not also has fielded some very good teams in all sports over the years. Rbarker – do you happen to live in Moss Hill off 105 – Just wondering?
  11. I have to laugh when I keep hearing that district 22-AAA is a weak district since Huffman and Barbers Hill left and then in the same breath they decide Liberty is the Red Headed stepchild and can’t play with anyone outside their district. Lets set the record straight – Liberty never lost a game to the might Huffman Falcons – I repeat NEVER. Liberty beat the Barbers Hills Eagles 3 out of the last 5 years they meet in district games. This makes me wonder why on this site the Liberty team gets no respect but Huffman and Barbers Hill are treated like they cant get beat.
  12. First – why did you leave Liberty off the list? Splendora has to be the favorite due to past results then I think it’s going to be a battle between Liberty and Coldspring. For Cleveland to be a sleeper they will have to wake up first – didn’t win a district game last year and would have lost to Tarkington had the game not been rained out (what I heard was that Tarkington wanted to play but Cleveland didn’t – does not say much for their competitive spirit). Shepherd and Tarkington neither have the team speed or size to match with the top teams in the district. Splendora Liberty ColdSpring Tarkington
  13. Hey Oldman. Don't get so down on Liberty - I know its hard to defend a 60 - 0 loss - but Liberty was not that bad. The night they played WOS (a very good team by the way) I felt they got the deer in the headlights after the opening kickoff was returned for a TD. But ..... they played Bridge City - a team in WOS district that was fighting for a playoff spot on the last week and got beat 24 - 20 on a great last period drive. So don't tell me they could not play in that district. WOS also did not play their JV till the last 1/2 of the 4th quarter - not in mass anyways - Earl Thomas was still in the game till the 4th.
  14. Then I was right you don't know what sportsmanship is. It is not shown to only good teams IT SHOULD BE SHOWN TO ALL TEAMS regardless of their talent level. I will say that you are not on the team because it appears HJ coach has taught them sportsmanship and it shows on the field. Liberty now has played HJ 2 times - 1 scrimmage and 1 game - and the difference has been 1 run - so if Liberty is that bad when is HJ gonna show its that good? Might be tonight - who knows - HJ might well win this in 2 games as they have a good well coached team but I don't thinlk you should count Liberty out just yet. Unless you have some kind of crystal ball then the teams will have to play and the best team should win. And by the way Treece might be a great pitcher but can he help the HJ bats hit the ball - don't think so. If HJ wins by a lot I will be the first to post my congrats to Hj and the wish them best in the playoffs. Would you?
  15. I'm really surprised that you could even spell sportsmanship cuz I know you don't know what it means.
  16. Hey Realdeal - I'm glad you told HJ to hold the score down last night - 1 run WOW! Unless they were holding back I don't see them scoring 20 in 20 games agianst Liberty. HJ is a good team but HJ fans hold no respect for Liberty - that is poor sportsmanship. You beat Liberty by 1 run - it was a good game HJ deserved the win. But to post comments like ya'll do shows a lack of knowledge of the game of baseball and respect to any team HJ plays.
  17. Hey #9red, hawkey07 and Greatness. HJ played a good game and their pitcher was pretty good - but they failed to "run rule" Liberty and failed to blow them off the field that all your post indicated would happen. Liberty is a solid team and deserves better than the dis-respect they have been shown and I believe they proved that tonight. Tommorrow is a new day and we will see what happens but tonight these two teams were very evenly matched.
  18. Pantherplaya – yes it is true. IF the board has a change of heart they can renew his contract next year and keep him. However, it appears if the rumors are true that the more likely is that they will buy out his contract at the end of the year. There is a group – how large is up for debate – that feels that Coach Stewart needs to be replaced. They currently have the boards ear and are pushing hard and they are using the recent down years as the reason for the change. The truth is that they are upset that their “Star Child†was not played where “They†thought he should play. I know who some of the group is and I feel that their complaints are not valid. However, they have the current Board on their side. Splendora Guy you are right – a lot of the players that have stuck it out and worked hard seem to like Coach Stewart.
  19. I can't speak for many teams but I have to put Liberty in this column. From almost last to 1st I think is a big jump. The players have stepped up and have provided sound defense and timely hitting. The pitching has also been much - much better the last year. Liberty gets my nod as the most improved team.
  20. Final - Liberty rolls agian!! Liberty - 15 Cleveland - 4 Go Panthers 8)
  21. Liberty continues to roll! Liberty - 10 Coldsprings - 2 Go Panthers
  22. District 22-AAA All District Baskeball Team Coach of the Year: Dennis Isbell – Coldsprings Newcomer of the Year: Dennis Allen - Splendora MVP: James Scott– Coldsprings Offensive Player of the Year: Ray Parks – Coldsprings Defensive Player of the Year: Ryland Parker – Splendora First Team Ryan Coleman – Shepherd Kris Usher – Splendora Cory Havard – Tarkington Chase Evans – Tarkington Kelvin King – Cleveland Steven Walker – Cleveland Robert Johnson – Coldsprings Daniel Connevey – Liberty 2nd Team Mike Lane – Shepherd Alex Meng – Shepherd Curt Horn – Splendora Trey Gill – Splendora Ryan Brewer – Tarkington Jerry Fehlker – Tarkington Curtis Harrison – Cleveland Charles Keyser – Cleveland Zavious Johnson Coldsprings Sean Edwards - Liberty
  23. Tarkington's pitching had better come prepared - Shepherd proved to me agianst Liberty that they can hit the ball often and hard. Tarkington may well have the overall better team but I have no doubt that Shepherd can score on anyone. If they could get the pitching to match they would be very dangerous. Prediction: Tarkington 8 Shepherd 7.
  24. If Luke is right it will be a battle between good pitching and good hitting. However, Liberty has pretty good sticks as well so Coldsprings pitching had better be ready. Prediction: Liberty 9 Coldsprings 4. Going for 4 in a row. Go Panthers.
  25. Liberty - 9 Shepherd - 6 Liberty Wins and goes 3 - 0 in district.
