  1. I was in Lufkin and had some time to kill, so I went to this game. I was surprised at the fight in HD. Nothing at all to hang their heads about. Alto is Alto. Solid, fast, well-coached. Having said that, I don't think they'll get out of the region. Without any passing threat, a top-tier team will figure out a way to stop, or at least slow down the run. Very entertaining game to watch. Congrats to both teams.
  2. Sorry, Wildcat, you're wrong on this one. I know Justin's parents, and nobody is dictating to them what to do. Thank you, Mary, for looking out for the interest of Justin. I truly miss seeing him run the football on Friday nights, but my first concern is his health. I hope he can come back and finish the season, but it's certainly not worth risking a more serious injury. What kind of parent would let their son play football if the doctor said no?  That's what I thought. :)
  3. If they've been coached at all this spring, they have to be better. Don't know much about last year's JV, but there were some young kids on varsity that will be a year better. Besides, the defense can't be any worse. We'll see soon  :D
  4. 8)  Good one, Wildcats35. Justin's a great young man from a good family. I've got a lot of friends in a neighboring town, and I can't go there without somebody telling me he's not going to play football this year. I keep telling them it's wishful thinking on their part, because they know how hard it will be to stop him the next two years. If the Hornets can come up with some defense, and I believe they will, this could be a great year for Hemphill football.
  5. Wolverine, you can let go of your fantasy that Justin Twine is moving or that he won't be playing football. Don't know who started that, but there is no basis to either aspect of it.
  6. HEMPHILL Don't know the order, but here are the non-district games: Garrison San Augustine West Sabine Joaquin Buna
  7. Well, they will have to play them, since it's the same district. Where is Anderson-Shiro, and what was their record last year.
  8. Lots of times sports articles in small town newspapers are written by high school students, which would explain the ultimate homerism displayed in this piece. Many of the small papers don't have an editor who bothers to edit, or they're afraid to hurt someone's feelings by changing their article. Don't know anything about this paper or reporter, but it is not the "worst" I've seen. Maybe top three LOL. And as far as not editorializing, that's never been a standard in sports sections. Not even one anymore in "news" articles. 8)
  9. Don Minton, my first cousin, was on that team. I was pretty young at the time, but I'll never forget receiving the news he had been killed in Vietnam. I was able to see his name on the wall at the Vietnam Memorial in DC a few years ago. RIP cuz.
