  1. How does Jeff Mathews keep his job if Vidor doesn't get into the playoffs?
  2. As a PNG Grad and Ex-PNG Football Player (Disclaimer) I would like to say this in regards to the Vidor Football Program. For YEARS a lot of folks over at PNG have wanted Vidor to become a dominate program. We can't understand why with athletes and talent you guys have every year that nothing tends to come of it. From I hear Jeff Mathews has done a lot of great things getting the community involved with football all the way down to the flag and tackle league. I think he makes a great athletic director for Vidor. That being said one thing that has separated PNG, Nederland, Dayton, Barbers Hill etc from the Vidors and Lumbertons is that we expect winning. Not only the fans but the players, cheerleaders, band members, everyone. I think what Jeff has done at Vidor has been great and to say he is one of the nicest guys in this areas in an understatement but he is a SUPER conservative coach that in my opinion is so afraid of losing a game he can't win. In 4A football you cannot expect to run 10 plays and win. I know he is contact with the K-Ville coach a lot regarding their offense but the biggest difference is K-Ville throws the ball and leaves everything on the field. I was the Central/Vidor game and I thought we going to finally see something from Vidor this year and years to come and now I don't know. I don't think anyone feels that Vidor won't make the playoffs this year but what about next year and the next and the next? I want and expect Vidor to be there year end and year out and not just making the playoffs because 4 teams go but because they are competing for a district championship. AGAIN I am not a Vidor guy but I promise you guys have a lot of support outside of your community. This is not an attack on Vidor, the coaches or the players this an honest opinion from someone on the outside looking in. Best of luck to Vidor - Win Out and go deep. Scalp em
  3. PNG wins and could win big. It will be a coming out party for the PNG high flying offense! The offense is tired about hearing how good the defense is.
  4. Congrats to the PNG Players, Coaches and Fans. You guys deserve your top 10 Ranking that is coming to you. I'm eating crow and a big believer in Fairclothe's 3-4 defense. Amazing
  5. If the statement isn't made yet you can never convince the homers out there.
  6. I'm eating crow. I thought that with the wet conditions and the 3-4 defense PNG would get their first defeat. I WAS WRONG. If they can take of Livingston away they should take care of Vidor at home. I thought PNG would be obviously better than last year but this is truly impressive!
  7. I was at that game sitting on the Lumberton sideline amazed at how that game unfolded. I may be to critical of their defense thus far but I almost have to throw out the Lumberton game for Vidor's defense just like I do for Vidor's offense. Anyone at that game knows it was ugly both sides and penalties killed both teams. Lumberton's offense got into the red zone and like a typical spread offense really fell apart. I give some credit to the Vidor defense for stepping up but Lumberton drove it down their throat all game and just couldn't put it in the end zone. I think the defense can shut down Ozen but their real test will be PNG. I am probably wrong but just my opinion from an old timer.
  8. I've been went to 2 of the PNG games this year including TC, I want PNG to win but for all of the folks that act like PNG is a machine on offense or defense you are sadly mistaken. There is not true number 1 team in this district and I could see 4 teams at the top with 2 loses. I think PNG will be come a beast next year but to go from the split 6 to the 3-4 has and will be a work in progress. As far as the offense goes, it looks real good one minute and real bad the next. If they play turnover free football like this past week PNG will be fine but that hasn't the norm this year. Good luck to both teams - PS who would have thought Livingston would even be good this year? Not me.
  9. 10. ISN'T IT AMAZING THAT EVERY TEAM EXCEPT IN THIS DISTRICT EXCEPT CENTRAL PLAYS LIVINGSTON THE WEEK BEFORE THEY PLAY VIDOR......SAME EXACT OFFENSE AND 2 WEEKS TO PREPARE! THIS COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP AND A 4TH PLACE FINISH. THAT BEING SAID VIDOR'S DEFENSE IS HORRIBLE.
  11. Trap game for Vidor..Don't look ahead to PNG. To make the playoffs they have got to beat Ozen, LCM and Nederland, which they should do. Very interesting though how Lumberton was able to stop Vidor after playing Livingston (who runs the same offense)....PNG plays Livingston this week then Vidor, it's a lot easier to stop this offense on game number 2, just ask Lumberton.
  12. I am not sure which game but PNG loses to Livingston or Vidor. My money is that they lose to Livingston then make the adjustments to beat Vidor the following week. It is a true advantage to play this offense in back to back weeks, just ask Lumberton. The 3-4 defense will not be able to stop the wing-t without completely changing the assignments which will only complicate the defense more. First road game and first loss coming.
