  1. and who has OF played? no one i wouldnt call newton no one! if you want to see a team that has played no one take a look at bc's schedule! Wow, Venom.......you seem to have something negative to say about BC every chance you get. Usually WOS folks don't get that worked up about BC in football.
  2. From what that stadium sounds like, you might be better off renting a helicopter
  3. I enjoyed last night's game from the perspective of an outsider just looking for a good football game. I was not disappointed. My summary is: (1)The referees were way too involved in ticky-tacky calls both ways. It definately affected the flow of the game.(2) The Raiders took it to the Pirates in the first half. Vidor was fortunate to give up only 3 points (3) The Pirates took it to the Raiders in the second half. The Raiders defense looked gassed and were giving up yards in large chunks. Had the game made it to overtime, my money would have been on the Pirates. Great effort by both teams. There is still a whole lot of football to be played before we have a clue as to how the playoffs are to shake out. Good luck to both squads. Also, good job to both groups of fans! It was loud and resembled a play-off atmosphere !!
  4. after reading all 20 some odd pages.....(ad nauseum)..... it is apparent to me that what we have is a difference in expectations from school district to school district. This is not a case of necessarily good or bad, just different values. Coach Dan Hooks has a tremendous record on the football field and in the hearts of his alumni. This cannot be denied. The WOS family is apparently happy with the way he runs the athletic department. This being said, most area districts would not be happy with their athletic department (not talking football here) being run as WOS's department is operated. WOS would not necessarily like the way say LCM, BC, OF, or other area districts run their athletic departments. Once again this is not a good/bad decision, just a difference of values. LCM has a proud tradition of strong Baseball, Softball, Golf, Volleyball teams. Any AD messing with these programs does so at his/her peril. BC with Baseball, Softball, Cross Country, Volleyball success has a similar situation. OF has traditionally had a strong girls program in many sports as well as the boys sports. Four different schools with four different sets of values although many of those values are similar. At the other three districts it would be totally unacceptable for the volleyball team to forfeit a district game to attend a football game. At WOS it is acceptable. This is a WOS situation and their folks can agree or take it to Coach Hooks and or the Administration. Again, not good or bad just different :-\
  5. Bobcats by 40. Horns are in bad shape this year.
  6. At the beginning of the season I was wondering which game to attend when my team had a bye. Checking the schedule didn't look very promising as most teams have byes this week. Silsbee is in Jasper....long way...tiny stadium. WOS is in Houston.... It looked like MCM would be my default game. Now that is is upon us I find the Vidor/Lumberton matchup much more intriguing this year. If Nederland was healthy I would be tempted but as they are beat up, I will be in Lumberton Friday night.
  7. Okay, I have watched this thread border on the ridiculous all day but now you have now crossed the line! Jack in the Box tacos are great (and a great value) anytime, especially at 1 am !!!! So now that you have successfully created a craving, I now have to get dressed and drive several miles. I hope you are happy !! 8)
  8. Newton should win this one by 21+ points but the Bobcats will put points on the board. It will be interesting to see OF's offense against Newton's defense. The 'Cats Wing-T is run by a savy, experienced QB who cut his teeth on that offense. This game will be good for OF down the road.
  9. The Panthers are not a terrible team but they reside in a traditionally weak district. Many years they make the playoffs when they wouldn't have been in the top 5 in other districts. This explains their many "one and done" playoff runs. Not trying to knock them, but they seem to get their fans hopes up many years only to watch them crumble. They may still do well in their district. :-\
  10. Bulldogs will win this one. Coach Neumann has a way of winning close games that don't look good on paper. Ozen has a rep of losing games they should win. Bulldogs by 10.
  11. Final score was actually 42 - 6, not that the one point matters............
  12. Break up the Bears!!!! Who would have thunk!!!! Congratulations LC-M !!!!!!
  13. I find it interesting that two of the more successful coaches mentioned in this thread (Hooks and Credeur) were hired from within their current staffs at that time. Neither the Mustangs or the Raiders were enjoying particular success prior to their hiring yet somebody in charge valued a little loyalty and a lot of some other intangible qualities to give these guys a chance. The conventional thinking leads school boards to look for a "magic bullet/Coach" from out of town. No doubt there are times that there are no viable coaching candidates on the current staff when a HC/AD vacates a position, but most times they are never considered if they are there. Other local candidates are often overlooked as well. Ask LC-M if they wished they had nabbed Coach Crouch during the previous AD hiring. Heck, even the WOS faithful griped about the offense when Coach Crouch was in charge. Now he is gone, newly appreciated and still there is griping about the "new" offensive coordinator that many of them lobbied for. All of these guys earn their money because their products are on display every Friday night regardless of the talent level they have to work with. No doubt that some are better than others but we should try to appreciate what these men are trying to accomplish. If you have an issue that you feel strongly enough to "rip" any coach anonymously, please sit down with them and discuss your issue. I'll shut up now......
  14. A muddy field favors the Bobcat's offense. B'Cats by 14
  15. Do they have a 9th grade team? If so, they should play the JV schedule. Other teams JV squads should not be penalized by not having a game because another school cannot field a JV. Move the freshmen and up and play. :-\
