  1. If I remember correctly Kirbyville's JV beat Newton's JV last year
  2. Kirbyville vs Corrigan-Camden @ Angelina College, Lufkin 7:00 Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday if needed
  3. Kirbyville hit the ball pretty well...when SA threw a strike. There was a ton of walks that made it get really out of hand. SA got beat 20-0 by Shelbyville the game before. They just dont have much baseball talent right now.
  4. How would success in one sport translate to success in another? Its comparing apples to oranges. Baseball is a skill-specific game. You can't just take a kid who can run fast and in one or two years teach him how to be a great baseball player. The schools who have great baseball programs have great youth programs where kids are taught the proper fundamentals of the game from an early age. Also, many of those kids specialize in baseball and play year round on select teams. In Kirbyville, one kid does, just about everyone else plays football or basketball or both. Most don't even touch a baseball from May until January.
  5. Its no wonder the AP poll and all-state teams are ridiculous. These are the same clowns who vote for all that stuff! The closest most of them ever came to football was covering games for their school paper when they were in high school!  ;D
  6. PNG wont let anyone play at their stadium. You would think they would want to show it off and make some extra money.
  7. Kirbyville JV 41 Newton 22 HD played the freshmen
  8. Gary Vanya is the DC, and a good one at that. Johnston along with another former Newton boy, Rod Gulley, coach the DB's
  9. In 5a the site is predetermined before the season ever starts. So I would expect it to be the same way in all classifications.
  10. Thats not true. The high school enrollment, grades 9 - 12 is what is turned in.
  11. What happened to Albritton? That guy is a player!
  12. Kirbyville's freshmen are 0-3 so someone will finally get in the win column
  13. 8 hrs a week when school is in session. Since school isn't in session they can practice as long as they want to
  14. Woodville 7-1 Shelbyville 6-2 Hemphill 5-3 Kirbyville 5-3 Newton 1-7 San Augustine 0-8
  15. Kirbyville 9th 50 Diboll 8 Kirbyville JV 50 Diboll 14
  16. And all the 23-2a teams will get a first round bye since 24-2a doesn't have any football teams. So the earliest our local districts would meet is the second round!
  17. Is Coach Deshazo still there or did he move on to somewhere else?
  18. I had heard that Shelbyville had to forfeit some games for using an ineligible player. Any truth to that?
  19. Are you just speculating or have you heard something?
  20. I don't care what a kid's reason is for not playing; doesnt like the coaches, other sports, lack of PT, parents, whatever. If they dont play its because their heart isnt in it. If they loved to play the game they would play. As a coach I would rather have kids who wanted to be there and that I knew I could count on to give there best effort all the time. And just because a kid is a good football player, basketball player, etc doesnt mean he can be a good baseball player. Baseball is a skill game. You have to know how to hit, throw, field, bunt, run bases, etc. Those skills have to be worked on and perfected over several years. In my years coaching Ive seen many really good athletes who were terrible baseball players cause they didnt have the skills.
  21. The only organized thing a coach can do with his players over the summer is hold organized workout sessions. Even then the coach can't make attendance mandatory. Kids certainly benefit by going to camps. One thing is they receive excellent instruction in the fundamentals of their sport plus its a great way to get them noticed if they have some potential.
  22. Actually the UIL will count this October and release the results next February. The new realignment will then go into effect Fall 2008
  23. I have worked with both Schroeder and Aranda and they are both great guys who love working with kids. Also I have never seen a kid work harder and be more dedicated to something than Salina is with tennis.
