  4. Lady ‘Dogs reunite, win championship The Port Arthur News The 2008 Nederland High School softball team that came within one inning of a state championship, reassembled last week for the 18-and-under Independent Fast Pitch Association National Tournament, which was played at Ford Park in Beaumont. The tournament started July 26th and ran through Saturday. Known as Nederland Intensity, the girls won 10 out of their 11 games and claimed the national title by beating the California Runnin Rebels 3-0 on Saturday. The Intensity was made up of 2008 NHS seniors Caitlyn Austin, Taylor Trojcak and Katelyn Worsham, as well as Ashleigh Kuhn, Lindsey Rossi, Jordan Bodin, Jordan Hightower, Krista Mayer, Shelby Phillips, Logan LeBlanc and Layken Richard, who played for this year's team which made it to the Class 4A regional semifinals. In 2008, the Lady Dogs surprised many by just qualifying for state. They then beating Dripping Springs 1-0 in the semifinals and took No. 1 ranked Aledo to the 15th inning before falling 4-0. That 15-inning marathon set a record for the longest championship game in Class 4A history. For Nationals, Richard's younger sister Jenson Richard and Breanna Miller both joined the team. Jenson and Miller are freshmen to be. The girls also picked up Temple Junior College's Michelle Stratta, who was invited by Austin, a Temple teammate. Rossi and Bodin will join Austin and Stratta this fall. Stratta was used as Intensity's designated player. Before winning the championship, Nederland knocked off Houston Power by a score of 7-2 in the semifinals. The Power was averaging eight runs per game before playing Intensity. Nederland also edged the Tennessee German Town Red Devils with a 4-2 decision. German Town, which was favored to win Nationals, gave Intensity their only loss of the tournament. But Nederland came back to beat the Red Devils in the quarterfinals.
  5. No you don't understand, they had a great team, but they didn't have all of the best players. What could be done with the best 12-15 kids from the area, this was just the tip of the iceberg. I'll agree we didn't have all the best individual players on this team. But as a TEAM they are the best playing together in the area. You can have 12 - 15 of the BEST players talent wise but if they can't play as a TEAM it doesn't matter. Intensity is a sisterhood of girls that believe in each other, stand behind each other and love each other. Also this group of players are the biggest bunch of cut-ups and goof-offs that you'll ever see. They have fun and they are fun to be around. But when they hit the field, its like turning on a switch. It's show time and they truly believe that they are capable of beating any opponent they face. One thing I learned is sometimes we can try and control or over coach these kids when infact they probably know more about this game than we do. Ask anyone these kid basically coach themselves.
  6. Here we go again. : and to think, I thought some folks had learned. You my big moderator friend are one of the haters, why haven't you learned?? Loved or Hated we always had a packed house at all of our games this week. Standing room only Friday and Saturday.
  7. I would like to thank all the OOC (Out of Control) family. Someone from this organization was always at one of our games this last week. Especially Friday and Saturday. You guys were very supportive of the girls, coaches and parents. I can't thank you guys enough. Thanks for the scrimmages to help us get ready this summer. And thanks for making us feel like one of the family.
  8. Well the results are in and in the end ALL of the underclassman from INTENSITY got a lot of looks from college coaches this week and have atleast one college coach interested in their future. I know a lot of you just couldn't wait for this team to fall on their faces. Even during Nationals our parents heard the trash talking here and there while we were playing. Well it didn't happen. This team was very special. Thanks for the bulletin board material I truly believe it was very motivational for the players and coaches. And yes we did have fun.
  9. Know doubt Shelby was the key down the stretch. 8 scoreless innings last night against TN-Germantown Red Devils which was over at 11:30 last night and come back at 8:30 this morning and pitch a compete 7 innings in a win against Houston Power Gold, then to pitch 4 1/3 innings against CA-Runnin Rebels Gold. Shelby you have matured so much since June and earned something you truly deserve. MVP!!!
  10. Intensity went 6-2-1 this weekend. Finally losing to GT Shockers in a heartbreaker 2 - 1. Congrats!!! to Andie McCain for an outstanding defensive play to shut down the squeeze at home (We had an opportunity that inning to put some more runs across but she shut it down) and to Kennedy Mullins on the 2 run HR to end the game. Way to bust up a no hitter. Logan LeBlanc went down hard in the Blitz game while making again another diving catch in the OF. What looked like just a strawberry on the knee later during the Shockers game reveal there is a lot more to it. Will know more Friday after MRI to see if she has any ligament damage. Just like GT Shockers came out soft in our first bracket game and lost. On a possitive note Intensity did beat LA Blazers 4 - 2 in pool play. Pool LA Blast Gold 1 - 1 LA Blazers Gold 4 - 2 W Bracket LA Blast Gold 3 - 1 L Peppers Gold 9 - 0 W Bayou Gators 4 - 0 W Houston RBI 2 - 1 W Tx Trouble 6 - 0 W Tx Blitz 8 - 2 W GT Shocker Gold 2 - 1 L
  11. Nederland Intensity 18U qualifies in there first tournament. IFA Regional Tournament in Pasadena this past weekend. Intensity went 2 - 1 in pool and 3 - 0 in bracket play. In bracket beat TX Peppers Gold 8-0, TX Storm Elite 3-0 and the most exciting game of the day was the come from behind win against GT Shockers 5-4. Going into the top of the 3rd down by 4 was able to rally back scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 3 more in the 4th to take the lead. We had a lot of key plays and players this weekend but have to say our RF Logan LeBlanc came up big time from the outstanding diving catches, to the 2 run double to take the lead and for the last play of the game, fly ball to RF runner tagging up at second Logan fired a strike to third to end the game. To: Tayler Trojcak, Caitlin Austin, Lindsey Rossi, Ashleigh Kuhn, Jordan Bodin, Krista Mayer, Logan LeBlanc, Jordan Hightower, Layken Richard, Chantelle Whitehead, Shelby Phillips and Jensen Richard. Thanks for a great weekend. All of you did a great job.
  12. First of all. None of you really know why, how or what lead to this decision. You just think you know. I do understand that the timing of this is bad. Remember these girls just finished high school ball Friday. In a nut shell they decided to keep the HIGH SCHOOL team together. Also 10 of the 14 girls were not on any summer team. You may not agree but It's pretty impressive to see a high school team pull together like this and want to continue to play in the summer.
  13. Is it recruiting if 14 girls decide to pool a team together. Because they maybe unhappy with their current situation or that they like the fact that these same girls are on the same page at this point in time of the summer. Birdman I understand what your saying. But you do know your accusations are directed to 17 and 18 year old girls who put this team together. Just to let everyone know the girls who put this together are reading this thread. I've have already gotten phone calls about it.
  14. This is exactly the way a moderator should handle a situation like this.
  15. Did someone say Juiceboxes. Oh Yeah I'll buy the first round. I nominate piratefan for Moderator Mediator.
  16. what do you expect from a cornhusker? I agree... I dont agree with alot of things, but making a thread everyday about the same stuff dont help anything at all. Just my two cents.I know you guys know eachother on here and yall talk alot amongst your self.Things got out of hand for awhile and then things started getting deleted. My opinion both sides are guilty. But if we let everyone cool off and quit making threads about stuff then things will get back to normal. Piratefan you have hit the nail on the head.
  17. Oh no doubt it was bashing the coach. It never got personal. Members posted on specific thing they approve of or didn't approve of. Kind of what some of us have been doing and are still trying to do.
