Brenham @ RR Westwood Scrimmage....

Recommended Posts

From KWHI:

The Brenham Cubs took the field for their second scrimmage of the 2012 pre-season, knowing they needed much improvement over last week's scrimmage with Manvel.
Coach Glen West says the team did show some improvement in several areas--but still has a long way to go before they're "where we need to be."
West said the offense turned the ball over way too many times, "we had both, too many fumbles and too many interceptions.  That's something we have got to fix quickly--taking care of the football."
West said the secondary also was burned for several big play for the second week in a row.  "The (Westwood) had an outstanding quarterback and wide reciver.  But we can't keep giving up big plays--we've got to get a lot better at that."
"We did see some promising things.  We played much better in the controlled portion of the scrimmage.  We moved the ball well and showed signs of understanding what we want to do."
"However, in the game-situation part of the scrimmage, we seemed to run out of gas.  We became a little fatigued."
The scrimmage was the first competition for the team following the stroke suffered by the Cubs' friend and teammate, Justin Davis.
West said the players have coped very well.  “Kids always handle things much better than you think they will.  This is a horrible thing to happen, but our guys are rallying around it and have shown this is something they are going to fight for."
After Friday's scrimmage, Jeff Thomas, the president of the Round Rock Westwood Boosters Club presented Coach Glen West with a check for $4,400 to help cover medical costs for Justin's family.
The season opener is Friday the 31st when the Cubs host Richmond Foster.
