Cameron Dishon had plenty of information available for three of the four schools he considered making his collegiate home.

The Beaumont (Bridge City), Texas, outfielder and 2012 baseball prospect's brother, Johnny Dishon, appeared in 78 career games at LSU before being drafted in the 42nd round by the Milwaukee Brewers. His stepbrother, Tim Ferguson, lettered three years at Ole Miss and was a top-10 round pick by the Kansas City Royals.

Dishon's stepfather, Chip Ferguson, played at Rice, and the pressbox at the Owls' home stadium - Reckling Park -- bears his name.

So, when Cameron Dishon began to hear from Rice, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, opinions were easy to find. However, the decision was left up to Dishon and he made it Saturday, following in his stepbrother's footsteps and committing to the Rebels.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder visited Ole Miss this weekend and informed the UM coaching staff before leaving campus.

"It was just a great visit and really fun," Dishon said. "I was looking at the other schools, but the offer was good and now by committing early, I don't have to worry. I can just play the game.

"I know my stepbrother loved it there and thinks it was a great experience. I've been to some series and know it's first class."

Dishon was recently named to Perfect Game's Top Prospect Team, and the scouting service rates him a 9.5 out of 10. He is a 6.5 runner in the 60-yard dash and hits line drive to all fields. He plays with the Southeast Texas Sun Devils during the summer, a team operated by Chip Ferguson. Current Rebel Tanner Mathis also played with the Sun Devils.

During the visit, Dishon took all the tours and saw the academic facilities and the athletic facilities, but it was the way the coaching staff approached him that made the biggest impression.

"They just did everything so well," Dishon said. "They made sure I understood all parts of being there, and it was a lot of fun. I was comfortable and really loved it.

"I didn't know for sure what I was going to do before the visit, but by the end I knew it was exactly what I want."
