Long time Newton Assistant Coach Passes Away

Long time Newton assistant coach Melvin Hartsfield passed away last night. He was an assistant coach for Newton many years coaching the defensive backfield. Coach Hartsfield had retired several years ago. Prayers to the Hartsfield family.

Wow! He taught me at Bleakwood Elementary school many years ago.  I'll never forget a bulletin board he did at Easter time.  He spent many hours on that board, perfecting it.  Prayers to the Hartsfield family.

He was a great secondary coach, sent several players to the next level. I really like Coach Koolcat as we use to call him. I got the pleasure of talking to him at the Newton Silsbee game this year. Great Coach , Great Man .
