Lumberton 11, Ozen 1

It didn't hit anyone until after the game, but the statistics checked out.

Tyler Erickson threw a no-hitter. The McNeese State signee had seven strikeouts en route to Lumberton's 11-1 win against Ozen in five innings. Ozen's lone run came when Erickson walked a batter, who later scored on an error.

"To be honest with you, he was struggling with his control and we were concerned about fixing his mechanics," said Lumberton baseball coach Shane Reyenga. "We really didn't realize that he had a no-hitter until after the game. We started talking about it and then the kids did too. We went through the book and realized that he pulled it off."

Erickson's no-hitter is the third one to occur in District 20-4A this season. The other two no-hitters belonged to Nederland ace and Texas commit Kirby Bellow.

Bellow threw no hitters against Central and Vidor. Last Friday, he threw a one-hitter in Nederland's 11-0 win against Little Cypress-Mauriceville.

Lumberton's district record improves to 4-7 and is sixth in district. Ozen's district mark is 1-10 and it lies in seventh place.

Around the bases: West Brook's quest for the playoffs took a bit of a blow following a 5-0 loss to Baytown Sterling. The loss puts West Brook with a 6-5 district record, which leaves West Brook in fourth place after it began Tuesday in a tie for second with Sterling and Lee; Nederland continued its grip on first place in 20-4A with a 16-0 victory over Central; Hamshire-Fannett got its first 21-3A win with a 7-5 victory over West Orange-Stark; 21-3A leaders Orangefield scored 15 runs in the fourth for a 18-2 win over Hardin-Jefferson.
