For you MLB gurus, how does this work?  Trade deadline is 7/31, but Pudge is traded in august.  Just wondering.

For you MLB gurus, how does this work?  Trade deadline is 7/31, but Pudge is traded in august.  Just wondering.

  The way I understand it is that he would have been put on waivers and all other teams pass on him.  I guess it is a "gentlemans agreement" among teams not to pick up a player that has been waived for the purposes of making a trade...but Rodriguez has enough left that I wouldn't have been surprised if someone would have called him up.

Astros place him on waivers.  If he gets claimed the Astros have a certain amount of time to complete a trade with that team or pull him off waivers.  However, any team with a record worse than the Rangers had the opportunity to claim Pudge off waivers as well.
