Gold Qualifers

As far as Gold Qualifers go, what determines the location of a team? 

I noticed that the upcoming regional tournaments in San Antonio there will be upwards to 70 or 80 teams for 6 births to Gold nationals.  For the regional tournament that covers Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Alablama there are 3 teams signed up with 2 bids being awarded.

Could a team set up an address in Louisana and say that is there home and play in that regional tournament?  Does the address of the majority of the players determine their regional home?

A team's region is determined by its ASA association rather than its state.

Here is the ASA Code regarding teams registering with an association:

Article 501 ELIGIBILITY.

B. Team Eligibility.

01. Team Registration. A team must register with the local association in

which the greatest number of its’ players reside, and this number must

be retained for the remainder of the season.

EXCEPTION: Teams in an adjoining county to a state or metro

association may register with either the state or the metro association by

mutual consent of the State/Metro Commissioner’s involved.

I would expect several other teams to enter that region's tournament. I don't see VooDoo Gold listed yet.  Several other Alabama and Oklahoma teams should be registering also.  Also, you don't know how well the TD is keeping the list updated.

I figured there had to be a rule just was not sure what it was.

One other poster said that there are coaches/teams who will add non-softball players to their roster from the other region to get them over the hump. It appears that a team from Orange county (or other counties adjoining the other region) could make a request from the TX state commish for the exemption, but I think you'd still have to use LA umpires.
