Way to hang in there and scrap hard LCM.  I wasn't there but sounds like yall saved your best effort for the last game. Don't hang your heads, next year may be better.  Work harder in the off season like yall never have worked before and try to get more kids involved and be TOTALLY dedicated to only one thing,  ''FOOTBALL".  good things will eventually happen.

Ozen downs LC-M, 34-21

LITTLE CYPRESS — Neither team had anything to play for except pride, so both schools gave outstanding efforts and produced a thrilling ball game. The Ozen Panthers rallied to defeat the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 34-21 at Bear Stadium in the final game of the season.

Momentum swings can be like a pendulum, and that is what swung the game in favor of the Panthers. Little Cypress-Mauriceville had the ball third-and-three at the Ozen 23 trailing by just 6 points, and then the exchange between the center and quarterback was fumbled and Ozen recovered. One play later LCM trailed by 13, as Ozen’s James White busted a run down the left side line for 77 yards and the score to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville (0-8, 0-7) began the game filled with homecoming spirit or some kind of energy that had been missing in the first seven games. For the first time all season LCM took the lead on its first offensive series.

Taking the ball at their own 18, the Bears marched the length of the field on 16 plays, using 7 minutes and 32 seconds on the clock. The drive featured 7 first downs, 3 rushing, 3 passing, and 1 very big first down on an Ozen penalty to set up first-and-goal at the Panther 10.

On the next play after the penalty Hunter Gonzales kept the ball and carried a couple of Panthers into the end zone for the touchdown. Ryan Kimbrough made his first point-after of the season for a 7-0 Bear lead with 1:49 to play in the first quarter.

Their next possession the LCM offense was moving again until a fumble turned the momentum around 180 degrees. Ozen recovered the fumble and returned it 53 yards to the Bears’ 7. Three plays later the score was tied on a pass from Terrell Durham to Anthony Lee.

Ozen (3-6, 3-4) took the lead the next time it got the ball. James White rushed 4 times for 25 yards. Durham got the touchdown on a quarterback keeper from 3 yards. The Bears’ Bryant Dunmire blocked the kick to keep the score 13-7, which is how the first half concluded.

The Bears took the kickoff to start the second half and drove down the field in 8 plays to take the lead. Gonzales made two spectacular plays to setup the score. First was a key first down completion to Preston Armstrong for 20 yards. On the next play Gonzales broke loose for 35 yards down to the Ozen 6. On fourth-and-goal from the one, Tevvin Jones bulled his way in over left guard for the tieing touchdown. Kimbrough was good with the kick to give LCM the advantage 14-13.

Not to be outdone, the Panthers answered with an 8-play drive of their own. White and Durham combined for 6 carries to pickup 63 yards. Pierre Harmon got the touchdown on a 2-yard run. Jose Torres added the point-after to make the score 20-14 with just under 5 minutes to play in the third quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jones made a very good return of 35 yards to the Ozen 47. On first down Gonzales sped for 37 yards to a first-and-goal at the 10. Two runs by Gonzales and an incompletion setup fourth-and-goal from the 5. Gonzales stood tall in the pocket and then threaded the ball through a needle that a camel would have had an easier time passing through to Armstrong who hung on with three Panther defenders hanging onto him. The remarkable touchdown was followed by Kimbrough’s third straight successful kick to put the Bears back in the lead 21-20 with 2:46 to play in the third.

For the fourth straight possession the offense got on the board. Ozen needed just four plays to score. White ran for 27 yards on two plays and Durham connected with Xzavian Jones for 22 yards down to the LCM 11. Durham passed to Nikilus Griffin from 10 yards for the touchdown to put the Panthers back on top after the PAT 27-21 with still 1:12 left on the third quarter clock.

The Bears netted four more first downs and moved from their 12 to the Panther 23 before the momentum shifting lost fumble decided the game. Gonzales was outstanding in defeat for LCM rushing for 138 yards and passing for 142 yards. He is only a sophomore.
