great game congrats to jasper on coming back in the 7th, cant wait for the next one! the feud continues, hicks did an awesome job on the bump and the jasper lineup (really the bottom of the order) did a good job at scrapping when they had to.  and congrats to blake hubbard w/ two hits on the night and the game winner in the 7th, that was clutch

You know at the last of the season these teams were #1 Jasper & #2 Bridge City for the whole state.

Seeing this game tonight I believe they are reversed for this season #1 BC #2 Jasper.  Congrats to both teams you are the two best in 3A, in my opinion.

Where are the relief pitchers. Hicks was tired in the 7 TH and so was Parsons. Neither coach went to the bull pen. What gives? Two great pitchers tonight and a very good game. I don't know if BC's catcher tagged the batter on the 3 RD strike when the ball was dropped or if he messed up. Some in the stands said he tagged him but I did not see it. That play led to Jasper's first run. Good game.

Jasper wins the next one in Jasper!!!!! He's the only great Pitcher ya'll have.

Are you kidding? How Bout Dillon a no-hitter against a very good Sulfur team, Clark a Lefty with some Pop, Snyder with a wicked Curve ball...Your right we might as well pitch Hicks again against you...By the way does Jasper have anybody else???

Hicks, BC outlasts Jasper, 4-3

BRIDGE CITY — The year is different and some of the players are different yet not much changed Tuesday night when Bridge City played host to 3A defending state champion Jasper.

Just like last season’s regional final between the Cardinals and Bulldogs there were errors, miscues and big hits Tuesday yet this time Bridge City was able to hold off Jasper, 4-3, in a key District 21-3A game.

The win moved Bridge City to 10-3 on the season and 2-0 in district play while Jasper is now 12-3 and 1-1.

The Cardinals led 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh with sophomore Matt Hicks on the mound and Hicks was pitching a stellar game.

With one out though catcher Ty Parker took the first pitch he saw from Hicks over the left-center field fence to make it 3-2.

After another out, Tyler Ernest drew a walk bringing Taylor Hart to the plate with two down.

Hart slapped a ball into center field and Bridge City’s Dustin Breaux let the ball fall from his glove to give Ernest plenty of time to tie the score at 3.

Unlike last season, when Bridge City committed 13 errors in a three-game series loss to Jasper in the regional finals, the Cardinals picked up Breaux and did not let the error decide the end of the game.

Sophomore third baseman Joe Robertson led the bottom of the seventh off with a walk and took second on a wild pitch.

After a Bridge City out, Jasper decided to put Cardinals’ catcher Casey Jackson on with an intentional walk to bring up Blake Hubbard.

Hubbard did exactly what Bridge City Coach Billy Bryant expected out of the designated hitter by driving a RBI single into left to score Robertson and give the Cardinals a 4-3 win.

“Casey is well established as a great hitter,†Bryant said. “Blake Hubbard came up with two huge clutch hits for us. That is going to make people have to pitch to Casey.â€

Hicks went all seven innings for the Cardinals and only needed 96 pitches to defeat the Bulldogs. The sophomore gave up three runs on five hits with just one walk and nine strike outs.

“It feels great to start off this way with a win over those guys,†Hicks said. “Last year a few things happened that we could not overcome and this year already seems different. We were able to come back and beat the state champs.â€

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Hart drove Parker in on a sacrifice fly. Parker had singled to reach first.

The Cardinals went up 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth as Jackson led off with a walk and Hubbard followed with a single to right. Luke Rhodes came in to courtesy run for Jackson.

Blake Snyder then reached on a bunt single and Jaden Dillon then plated Rhodes with a RBI single to center.

Breaux then scored Hubbard with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.

Snyder, who was on third after Breaux’s sacrifice, came in to score on a wild pitch from Jasper starter Justin Parsons.

Parsons went the distance for the Bulldogs and gave up four runs on five hits with six walks and six strike outs.

Parsons threw 127 pitches in the contest.

The Cardinals will now travel to face the Orangefield Bobcats this Friday in another District 21-3A showdown.

Great job by both clubs. Congrats to the Cards and Coach Bryant on the win. Jasper fans let us know how your catcher is. That kid is going to be a good one. Time to focus on Orangefield.

Go Big Red!

I thought it was kind of ironic that Robertson scored the winning run.

absolutely, what a way for him to get a little redemption, if you think about it, the whole thing is kinda errie, joe gets on first in the inning in which there was a hit to left, like w/ bolton and an inning where there was an intentional walk (what would have happened had dishon got a chance to hit).

I loved how you guys stepped up tonight!! How many returning starters did Jasper have from last years team and how many Seniors do they have?? BC is pretty young and you could tell they were a litttle nervous, but they pulled through in the clutch!! Not taking anything away from anyone but IMO the Class of 2009 and 2010 have had the best players come through BC so far, but that's just goin on thier Little League and Pony League days when they nearly reached the PONY World series, but anyways good game tonight celebrate this one tonigth and tomorrow its tiem to get reay for Orangefield!!
