Coop I can't list just one!!! There are at least 10 that I'd have to mention.

1. Lamar making the Sweet Sixteen

2. The 80 game home court winning streak

3. 3 LU basketball players drafted in the same NBA draft

4. Tommy Sewell drafted in the 1st round of the NBA draft

5. The men's golf team finishing 3rd in the nation

6. The ladies making it to the elite eight (yes, I'm still counting it!)

7. Lamar beating Arkansas and UT in Austin

8. Lamar getting a terrible call at the plate versus UT in Austin

9. Lamar football team beating Baylor after Baylor won the SWC the prior year

10. The Board of Regents dropping the football program

Now, I could easily list another 20 or more great memories! I love Lamar!!!!!

Now, that is beyond athletics. I still get sad hearing that story and I was 1 when it happened. I pray to the Lord nothing like that ever happens to Lamar University again.

I'd have to say - just regarding actual plays - would be the '88 Fball game vs Arizona State.  One of the plays that sticks out in my mind is a multi volly'd pass from John Evans to Robert Allen (offense alway gets the glory).  As time ticket off the clock in 3Q the pass was deflected up by Allen, deflected up by AzState DB or LB, then a diving catch by Allen.  The crowd cheered for the possible INT by AzState but then seemed to end up cheering at the play.

Regarding Bball - I'd have to say the slam vs  UTSA this year was sweet.

Must be great to have those memories for you smith. As for J. Nabors, that cat is unreal. You should have seen the dunk versus UTA. Double clutch, reverse! Awesome.

I have a a hard remembering some of the stuff during the 80s even though I was there for most of it as a kid with my dad, so I have to go with when I was there.  Winning the SLC tournament in 2000 and advancing to the Dance is way up there.  However there are two memories of games I was at that are the top plays for me, and they both involve the same player.

1.  Matt Sundblad hits a 30 foot 3 pointer as time expires to beat Western Kentucky for the first time in school history.

2.  Triple overtime game against La Tech in Ruston and Sundblad hits another three to send the game into the third OT and Lamar pulls away in 3OT.

Watching LU vs Louisville on TBS when Foster was the coach.  LU got spanked by 25 points but I think Louisville had the McCray brothers and went to the final four that year, but not sure.  I remember the promos on TBS:  "Cardinal vs Cardinal"

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!

I think #1 has to be LU making the sweet 16 with BB Davis (I believe Mike Oliver was on that team).

#2 would have to be LU beating Baylor in football in Waco.

#3 would be the 80 court winning streak starting in McDonald gym and getting finished in the Civic Center.

I'd have to agree.  Lamar should be primed for a fresh start and well rounded athletic program.

If a former Lamar football player in 89 makes that statement after the school officials let him down, I have to agree. This may be the most important week for Lamar's athletic future and the memories they will bring.
