hf is pretty tuff they may finish 3rd with a break or 2

Your right HF will suprise some people down the stretch. Kendra Wright had a monster game at the low post for HF. Allie Beach and Jessica Weldon for Orangefield had a good game tonight. We had balance scoring and thats what it takes to win. The officiating was not bad also. I have to give credit to both schools, they never gave up. They played hard till the end. HF had to foul at the end and we made our freethrows. That was the difference.

Lady ’Cats survive Lady Horns, 57-52

Gabriel Pruett

The Orange Leader

ORANGEFIELD — If Hamshire-Fannett is the fourth best team, first-year Orangefield Coach Chris Jost is very impressed with District 21-3A already.

The Lady Longhorns gave the Lady Bobcats all they could handle Friday night before Orangefield was able to pull out a 57-52 victory.

The win pushed Orangefield to 14-9 overall and 5-0 in the district standings while Hamshire-Fannett falls to 14-7 on the year and 2-3 in the district loop.

Hamshire-Fannett took a 41-39 lead late in the third period and only trailed 43-41 heading into the fourth.

Orangefield went 8-for-12 from the free throw line in the game’s final minutes to secure the victory.

“Hamshire-Fannett came ready to play,†Jost said. “They knew what we wanted to do and they attacked it. They gave us everything we wanted tonight. If that is the fourth best team in this district, it is going to be tough from here on out. It is going to be interesting.â€

Senior guard Kaylin Little scored a team-high 18 points to go with four steals while junior Jessica Weldon finished with 15 points, four steals and three assists. Allie Beach aded 12 points and nine-critical rebounds.

Senior Laura Riddick added seven rebounds and three steals in the victory while Olivia Wagner put in three steals, three assists and three rebounds. Aimee Scales added a nice block, four rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Hamshire-Fannett dominated the boards early in the contest by holding a 22-10 rebounding margin at the break.

Orangefield was able to close the gap in the second half as Hamshire-Fannett out-rebounded the Lady Bobcats 34-28.

The Lady Bobcats went up 34-26 at the break before the Lady Longhorns’ Kendra Wright caught serious fire in the third to help close the gap.

Wright scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the third.

“Wright is a great ball player,†Jost said. “We kept leaving her open and she kept draining shots. They (H-F) will definitely be tough at their place the next go around.â€

The Lady Bobcats started out hot from the floor hitting 4-of-5 three-pointers in the first period as they built a 18-16 lead heading into the second.

Little and Weldon each had two of the four three-pointers.

Orangefield finished 19-for-56 from the field while Hamshire-Fannett was 20-for-47.

The Lady Bobcats’ defense caused 27 turnovers while Orangefield gave the ball away 17 times.

Hamshire-Fannett’s Brittney Cooper finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Kayla Dotson added seven points and nine rebounds.

Orangefield will travel to face West Orange-Stark on Tuesday.

In an upset in District 21-3A, Silsbee downed No. 4 Hardin-Jefferson 73-68 to push Orangefield into sole possession of first place in the standings.

Thank you, thank you...

Seriously to talk about HF, they really played like a team tonight. They are a complete unit and will win some games this year and make things interesting in the playoff race.

OF had nice contributions from everyone. If a player didnt score much, they were rebounding or playing tough defense. Next Friday at home against HJ is going to be great.

I know OF will be ready.  But, keep in mind, HJ is gonna' be MAD when they come over there!

I was very worried almost the whole game.  HF has imporved a lot, I think they are going to upset someone this season, I just hope its not Orangefield!!  Congrats to both teams.  KK Little again had an awesome game.  Allie Beach also played huge for us last night.  Good job ladies lets keep it up.
