Angelle is another Texas high school lefthander whose stuff has taken a big step forward this spring. Angelle has been Bridge City's ace since his sophomore year, when his fastball sat at 82-84 mph. His velocity climbed to the mid-80s in 2005, and now he's pitching at 88-90 mph and topping out at 92 mph. He has good arm speed and room to add strength to his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame, so his fastball could continue to improve. Angelle also throws a late-breaking, sweeping curveball and has some feel for a changeup, and he has the potential for three average or better pitches. His delivery isn't the smoothest and could use some cleaning up. His velocity was inconsistent down the stretch, though he struck out 17 in a win in the opening game of the state 3-A quarterfinals. Like Kershaw and Britton, Angelle originally signed with Texas A&M. But he's eager to enter pro ball, and he would likely attend San Jacinto (Texas) Junior College if he doesn't sign.

Named to the all-state team after his sophomore and junior seasons at Bridge City High School … earned numerous awards, including district MVP and Orange County Player of the Year … struck out 117 hitters in 59 innings of work as a sophomore and tossed three no-hitters, while fanning 177 in 89 innings as a junior … hit the game tying homerun, the go-ahead double and struck out 16 hitters in the final game of a three-game series to send Bridge City to the state tournament last year … was a member of the 2004 USA Junior National Team that won the gold medal in the Junior Olympics … listed as the No. 20 prospect in the Texas Baseball News’ Texas Top 25.

SCOUTING REPORT: Angelle is a solid left-handed pitcher with a fastball in the upper 80’s. He supplements the fastball with an above-average curveball and is a winner with tremendous potential that is ready to compete and pitch immediately.

I just hope he doesn't get drafted high this year. We've lost out on J'Covan but landing Angelle makes me feel better.

If he doesn't have injury problems. He'll be pitching in MLB one day.

    • What the writer stated wrt crossover votes in the primary/runoff: "Covey and his supporters Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Phelan only won because Democrats crossed over to vote in the Republican Primary for him. Paxton said Covey’s campaign identified “at least” 1,442 Democrats who voted early in Jefferson County in the primary runoff. Texas does not have party registration, but a voter’s primary voting history is public. The Covey campaign has not released its methodology behind its claim, but  This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up  by The Texan news website found that 9% of Republican voters in the March District 21 primary had voted in one of the previous four Democratic primaries. However, only 5% of that group had voted in all four previous Democratic primaries. What Phelan’s opponents did not mention is historically Democratic Jefferson County is undergoing a political transition towards the Republican party — the county judge switched his affiliation to the GOP in 2017 — so many residents have a mixed primary voting history. And Phelan’s allies in the House dismissed the idea that liberals swung the election. "I knocked on doors, hundreds and hundreds of doors, made calls for Dade,” Republican Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, said on Mark Davis’ radio program Wednesday. “I did not speak to a single Democrat down here in HD21. Not a single one." "
