MONTGOMERY BEARS

2018 Record: 5-6 Overall, 5-2 District

3rd Place in District 10-5A-II

 

The 2018 season saw a resurgence in football in the northeastern part of Montgomery County as the Bears made a return to the playoffs after a year's absence.  However, Head Coach John Bolfing realizes that District 10-5A-II will be a bit tougher in 2019.  But the Bears appear ready to face the increased intensity as 9 starters return to get Montgomery to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Assistant Coaches: Grant Cooper, Derrick Hennigan, Slade Griffith, Ben Young, Chris Morris, Ramsey Wright, Sam Oelschelegel, Rhett Gresham, Geoff Pilcher, Parker James, Matt Monk

Offense:

Seven starters return to the Montgomery spread offense in 2019.  Again leading the Montgomery offense will be the 10-5A-II Offensive Newcomer of the Year, Brock Bolfing.  Spearheading the Bear running game will be sophomore running back Jalen Washington and junior backs Triston Johnson and Adavion Johnson.  Senior wide out Mason Little (2nd team all-district) and senior tight end Cole Morris (1st team all-district) will lead a receiver corp which will also feature junior wide receiver Tre Harden.  Senior left tackle Trey Phillipi (2nd team all-district) and junior left guard Zach Hird return to an offensive line which will also feature junior center Nick Afflitto.

Defense:

Montgomery will have to grow up in a hurry as only two starters return to the Montgomery 50 defense in 2019.  Senior defensive tackle Evan House will lead an defensive line which will also feature junior defensive end Zach Anderson and sophomore defensive tackle Zach Cooper.  One of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball will be sophomore Leslie Williams (2nd team all-district), who returns to his inside linebacker spot along side junior Hunter Delahoussaye. Senior cornerback Quincey Paulton (2nd team all-district) will lead a Bear secondary which will also feature senior safety  Blake Thomas, junior safety Jacob Sandegren and junior cornerback Josiah Gaetani.

Special Teams:

Gaetani will handle both the place kicking and punting duties for Montgomery.  Sandegren and Hardin will be the primary kick returners for the Bears.
