GAMBLE AWARD FINALISTS NAMED

Ozen’s Kris Richard will be looking for a second straight crown at the James Gamble Basketball Awards. The senior is one of 10 high school basketball players from Southeast Texas named a finalist for the fifth annual James Gamble "Mr. Inside" and "Mr. Outside" Awards, which will be presented at a 6:30 p.m. banquet Saturday, April 14, at Lamar State College-Port Arthur's Carl Parker Center.

The Gamble Award finalists will play an all-star game against a team of Houston-area stars at 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, also at the Parker Center.

The Gamble Awards pay tribute to Port Arthur's living legend, a coach who led Lincoln High to four state championships in the 1980s. Their purpose is to recognize the best high school basketball players in Southeast Texas.

Previous "Mr. Outside" Award winners include West Brook's Trey McDowell (2003), Kountze's Keithan Hancock (2004), Ozen's Roderick Bellard (2005) and Richard.           Roman Antoine of Beaumont West Brook has been added to the local roster of James Gamble Awards All-Stars for Friday night’s fourth annual Port Arthur News/Gamble Awards Game at the Carl Parker Center at Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

The James Gamble Awards selection committee added Antoine, a senior guard and first-team All-District 21-5A pick, after Awards finalist Tramain Thomas of East Chambers injured his leg in a track meet last Thursday.

The pulled quadriceps muscle makes Thomas a doubtful participant in the game against a Houston all-star team, set to begin at 8 p.m. Friday.

Antoine averaged 14 points per game for the Bruins. He was an all-tournament team selection at the YMBL South Texas Shootout and the San Antonio Cornerstone Warrior Classic.
