Is that a new dish at Taco Bell?
-
You just stated in one sentence what I tried to say in a dissertation. It was not against football per se but schools and life in general. Why earn it when it will be given to me? We have moved beyond the generation X and are now at generation Y. Y do I need to be at school on time? Y do I have to start at the bottom when I get a new job? Y do I need a diploma?

[on soapbox]That is true but isn't it pretty much that way with everything in life? For most things or endeavors' date=' you get one shot, maybe two at the most. I think it is just a trend that started about 20 years ago where everyone is entitled to everything, no matter the effort or results. There are no consequences to poor performance, underachieving or just not doing what you had a chance to do. First schools wanted to drop grades altogether and just score on attendance. Then schools went to social promotion. No matter if you cannot write your name by the time you are in high school, we don't want you to be away from the friends you grew up with. No need to embarrass little Johnny because he skipped school half the year and didn't do his homework the other half. No need to make the grades or earn the credits to get out of high school, you get to walk with your class even though you did not actually graduate and will never graduate. The French had riots a few months ago because they were going to make a law that you could actually fire someone from a job if he underperformed or didn't show up for work. How crude of the French for expecting people to show up for work. I have a feeling this country isn't far from the same kind of laws that protect jobs no matter what you do or getting a diploma no matter if you attend school. It will just be further eroding of having any accountability for anything or any actions. Sorry, but I do not think that making more playoff spots just so more kids can claim some type of victory is correct. There has to be some incentive for trying hard and for winning. When you make 4 teams from a 6 team district into playoff teams, what does that do to the feelings of the 2 teams at the bottom? If you think Lumberton is catching hell how, what will it be when only 1 or 2 teams are left out of the mix? Why not just do away with earning playoffs altogether. Make it like baseball or basketball in college. The regular season is just prelude to the post season tournament and just used for the seeding in the playoffs. It would only extend the season for another two weeks at the most. Every team goes, that way we won't offend anyone. That way every football player in Texas can claim he was on a playoff team. After all, we don't want to brusie anyone's self esteem. But wait, if you do it for football.........[b'][/off soapbox]

Thinking this is going to really be about Texas high school football is about like thinking Titanic (1997) was a documentary about the actual disaster or that Survivor (CBS) really is about who could survive in the wilderness. This has teen soap opera written all over it. They will show enough football so they can develop the players/jocks but I suspect that is about it. -

True but Yankee Stadium is still Yankee Stadium. It is not Babe Ruth Stadium or The House That Ruth Built Stadium. He needs to try another analogy. -
If your team doesn't make the playoffs......

It is all according to what day the games are on and how deer season is going. I will watch PN-G if they are in the playoffs and Nederland is not. I might watch any other area team if the game is fairly close to home. -

PN-G/Brenham Predictions For Week 0. Cubs Preview
tvc184 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Can they do it? The answer is always yes. "Will they do it" should be the question. PN-G has pulled their share of upsets in the past and they have the kind of program to do it. If they can find a decent offensive line in the next four weeks, I think they can make the game interesting. If not, they might be in deep trouble. PN-G has a couple of good running backs returning and if they mostly run a ground game, getting experience at quarterback early won't be that big of a difference as it would be to a passing team. Brenham is ranked #2 in the state at the moment and usually that means a successful program from last year has a lot of returning starters. That will likely be their key to early success if that is true. If most of their starters have already played together for a year including the playoffs, they will definitely have a heavy experience advantage in their favor. It will be more apparent early in the season when everyone else is trying to figure out a lineup while Brenham is almost ready to go. It is obvious that Brenham is a heavy favorite to win no matter how you look at it. I expect Brenham to win but I think PN-G will make them work for it. -

Nederland/LaMarque Predictions For Week 0

They were 3A back then with 4A being the largest districts. In effect it would be the same as 4A today. In 1980 the UIL added another "A" to each size district to get rid of "B" ball. B moved up to A, so 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A each went up a notch in the numbering system. -

Okay, no need to play the season. -
I hunt on about a 1,000 acre lease just out of Chester in Tyler county. Lots of deer and we have been managing it for about the last three. Starting to see some nice deer now that we are getting the doe population down a bit. Tyler is a two doe county without permits.

Nederland/LaMarque Predictions For Week 0

How you compare teams is generally based on who you are talking to and their records lately/overall. I have friends at work that went to Lincoln and love to point out that they beat Nederland in their last year of existence. They hate to mention that Nederland was 10-1 against them in the last 11 years and owns the overall record between the schools. They would rather the discussion be based on the very last game. That year Lincoln won only their first round game. Nederland won three and ended up in the semi-finals. Two weeks after Lincoln had gone home for good, Nederland was still playing ball. Nederland beat WO-S for three straight years, effectively keeping them out of the playoffs for their last three years in 4A. I seem to remember a lot of the banter on the bulletin boards between WO-S and Nederland. The Nederland fans (and I was one) crowed about three straight years of victory. The WO-S fans seemed to care mostly about the overall record that is heavily in favor of WO-S. Now that WO-S has won the last two years, I am sure they don't mind discussing the last two years, much like my friends from Lincoln like to dismiss the 10 straight years of losses to Nederland. WO-S is rightfully proud of their state championships but wasn't their last one like in '88? I doubt any of this year's seniors was even alive the last time WO-S took it all but I still hear a lot of talk about it. The bottom line is, people like to discuss what is in favor of their argument whether it be recent past or overall history. I see it on all sides from supporters of all teams. It is called making an argument for your case. Just remember this, a person could always be a supporter of Vidor or Lumberton and not have anything to defend recent or overall history. Oh yeah, did I mention Nederland won state in 1957.............. -
