  1. Freethrows hurt, you have to make them on the road.  But there is no excuse for the coach picking up a "T" with two minutes left and down by four points.
  2. I too am disappointed in the progression of the program and think we need to see progress but everyone needs to understand and some of us older ones remember that to kick start a program you have to get lucky. Read how Clarence Key and Mike Oliver arrived at Lamar. My disappointment is that the three years Roc was recruitting for Tubbs we brought in multiple 6' 10" players who while they did not live up to their potential gave us a solid base even without a decent point guard. Last two recruitting classes signed mostly 5' 10" point guards. We need a balance.
  3. If they split the divisions as noted I think the benefits of a stronger conference would make up the difference in travel costs. Realistically one would be talking about a maximum of two conference football games outside of the travel distances for the current Southland and three for basketball if you play everyone in your divison and half of the other in football and do basketball the same as done now in the Southland. I know for other sports the travel may be a bigger issue but if you can get some decent TV money and can improve the nonconference schedules it might be worth it.
  4. Past history tells the truth, small schools don't have the depth to absorb the early season injuries that the large schools have. I have seen many instances elsewhere when small schools would play money games, get to many players hurt and then have poor conference records. Then the coaching changes begin and the program degrades to the point that the school has no fan base and it's just time until the program is killed. Just like LU basketball the stands won't fill if they are not winning.
  5. It might be a tight fit, but one way of hiding the blank white wall of the Montagne would be to slide the football field south and put the atheltic building and the suites against the south wall of the building, then tie the two buildings together on the bottom floor. This would make it much easier to share weight rooms and training facilities. Save the school long term costs of maintaining separate facilities.
  6. Next year should be interesting. If there is not significant improvement the Roc should go. You can blame a lot of this year on injuries, but I think there is a lack of leadership also. Agree, glad to see McThay gone, should have never brought him back. Custer is a walk on, so why would we expect him to be dominant. Miles always played tentatively when playing with Dawkins, needs to play with intensity. If Dawkins wasn't ready to play a 100%, then he should have only played a few minutes as teams do for most Seniors, and let the guys who have been playing carry the load. Williams is interesting, see occasional bright spots but plays like he is in the dog house most of the time. It's obvious his game is dribble drive penetration and he rarely does it. Harper, very raw but plays hard. Wait to see if he improves his game by next year. The injured, did not play this season team was probably better than what we put on the court.
  7. A lot of posts have mentioned the injuries as one of the causes for Lamar's problems, anyone have a record of the number of in game injuries versus practice injuries. I know that Nabors and Harper were off court or out of season but other than a cut here or there I don't recall any significant game related injuries. I know teams have a shoot around on game days but why would you have an hour and a half practice, that Roc mentioned on his pregame interview.
  8. Agree with giving the younsters a chance. Thought some facts would be interesting. No doubt Daniels was the best at Lamar in years. Point of earlier comments were in response to Williams not taking open shots, is it him or is it ROC's game plan. Based on last three years don't see that great recruiting ROC was known for either. 9. Never meant to equate Williams with Daniels, only that Williams is the only player on this team that even shows the ability to dribble drive and finish. Can he pull up and make the 10 to 12 footer, I don't know but nobody else on this team is capable. It takes a complete college career to determine how good a player is or becomes.
  10. I am not worried about Williams 3 point percentage, he is the only guard Lamar has that can drive to the basket and elevate high enough to get a reasonably clean shot against the other teams big men and it appears he is no longer attempting to drive. When McThay or Dawkins drive (especially McThay) it either ends up with a circus shot or a bad pass once the other teams realize they can't get up high enough to be a real threat. If you don't have a big man then you need an Alan Daniels type guy and I believe that is Williams.
  11. Everyone including ROC needs to remember that until arriving at LU he never coached a game and it shows. Even with the injuries there are three close games that you can point at where Lamar got out coached and to date ROC is not acknowledging any responsibility. As for recruiting two years ago we needed one point guard. This years team has three and he has two more on the early list for next year both under 6'. Speed can compete with size but it has to be significantly quicker. Lamar is not quick enough and stands around to much on offense to be 3 to 6 inches shorter per position. The blow out games came with the opponents having someone 6'3" or taller as point guard and defending Dawkins. Shooting percentage goes down quickly when you can't get a good look at the goal.
