  1. I think Simmons was the dominant pitcher in 1984 just like Scotty Rose was in 1987. As far as being strong up the middle, its hard to argue against that 1987 team..Michalsky (all state at short) and Hughes (played for St.Edwards Univ.) at second. Combine that with Martin Patrick at third and Bucky Gilcriest at first, two power sticks at the corners, and you have an infield that is beyond good. Scott Anthony in center set the record for most homeruns as a sophmore! In 1987 he was a polished senior. With Scotty Rose on the hill the 1987 Buna Cougars were the second best team in state in 3A. Only San Augustine, considered that year to be one of the best teams in the nation as well as Texas, could beat them. Lets not kid ourselves, they were both great teams. its all a matter of opinion now. GO COUGARS 08!
  2. That 1984 team was very good..but without Simmons on the mound I am not sure they would have went that far. In 1987, before the playoffs, Buna beat the eventual champions San Augustine, by a score of 1-0. (proving that they could beat the state champions) It was the only loss San Augustine would suffer all year. Scotty Rose was on the hill and was masterful. The 1984 and 1987 teams match up very well position by position, however, I think the 1987 team led by Brian Michaslky and Scott Anthony was a little bit better.
  3. The best Buna team ever bar none was the 1987 squad..with apologies to this years team. Just look at who they had. (for those who know Buna baseball) Michalsky, Rose, Hughes, Anthony, Gilcriest, Patrick, Cousins..ect.....they were unbelieveable. For those who can remember the team that beat them in the semis was San Augustine who went on to win state that year (san augustine 1987 still considered one of the greatest teams ever in this area) The 1991 team was good as well..but Ross was the one who really carried that team. the 1987 squad really had no weakness anywhere. I wish this years Buna team lots of luck..I hope they win it all...and they may have more heart than that 1987 team. But the forum is the best Buna team ever....in my opinion there is no doubt: 1987.
  4. Greta job Coach Terrier and the Cougars. Will be supporting you all the way to state!
  5. Game 1 final. Game 2 will be Friday night at 7 pm in Conroe. Go Rebels! We still believe!
  6. Evadale will play the winner of Thrall and Fayeteville.
  7. J.Tucker has the best arm and is the best outfielder in this district.
  8. Kahla is the best catcher in this district. The other catchers are good, some not so good, but he is hands down the best. To be honest, although Kahla gets my vote I think that this district is not really strong when it comes to the position of catcher...just my opinion.
  9. Evadale will play at West Hardin I think...first game was played in Evadale due to bad weather.
  10. Evadale defeats Sabine Pass by a score of 7-2 at Sabine Pass on Tuesday night. Josh Tucker pitched for the Rebels who remain undefeated in district play with a record of 9-0 and an overall record of 17-2. Garrett Landis gets the save. Rebels remain #10 ranked in state in 1A baseball and will face the West Hardin Oilers on Friday night in West Hardin. Congratulations to the Rebels. Keep the memorable season going.
  11. awesome game! Too bad someone had to lose....Ozen had every chance to win this game...but give credit to the Dogs...this was the best game of the night!
  12. Not a good game...The Bulldogs need to right the ship before the playoffs (if they make it???) Can you say Vincent Beck 07??????
  13. I agree west...LCM is better than this score..bad loss for the Bears.
  14. Magical season for BC..good luck to the Cards in the playoffs and Coach Bryant.
  15. Sorry I missed this one...but will be in Evadale Friday night to watch Drake pitch. I see that The wizard did it with the stick tonight. Congrats Rebels.....keep the hitting going.
  16. Can anyone give me the updated standings on this district. I know Evadale is leading but what is the up to date standings? The other post on this board is incorrect. Thanks.
  17. I dont know how far Evadale will go in the playoffs but from what I hear from all of my friends and from what I have witnessed the Rebels 08 are kinda like The Gashouse Gang. They are a wirey group of players with some characters on the field and in the dugout. Like them or not they are very successfful this year. I cant wait to see them in the playoffs.
  18. The Rebels lost to Colmesneil and Nederland JV. They later 10 run ruled Colmesneil I heard.
  19. Nobody catches Evadale in this district. They are just too strong. Good luck to the Rebs in the playoffs.
