  1. Did you go to Auburn or something? They play by the same rules at all 5 levels. Don't let the size of the school fool you on the basketball mind of the coach. Remember Cotton Robinson Coached at the 1A and 2A level and that worked out pretty well for him. 7 titels in 9 years and many college coaches base there game on his fundamentals.
  2. Looks like Buna did better against those 4th and 5th place teams than Kirbyville did hitman009
  3. To be fair can someone post some of Kirbyvilles stats from last year. I think alot of people make assumptions off of when they were in school or their feelings toward the school. I like to look at the facts and stats before I make a prediction. Unfortunately my prediction on Kirbyvilles football seasoon was true. When dave campbell put his book out I predicted K-ville to make it to the champ game but lose but I wanted them to win but the data I had at hand did not convince me that would happen but am proud that they represented Jasper county the way they did.
  4. Just cause it is quoted does not mean I agree with it. I agree with what I say and that is about it.
  5. Nowhere in my post do I say Kirbyville will be a push over you said that. I know absolutly nothing about their team but if the are half as good as their football team then they are a dang good team. I can't bash another team I know nothing about so I don't and you should not bash yours either
  6. I stayed till half time. Once Kountze got there stuff together in the second quarter the game was over. It was 18-10 Kountze after one but 48-18 at half.
  7. Buna playing in round rock in 08 = confidence. 3 years ago...Hardin Jefferson had a pretty dang good baseball team, kirbyville doesn't when Buna was playing in 3a before they dropped..they werent that good. Now, they are. they have a totally different team with totally different players. dont forget they beat 3 teams in your district last year. I wish kirbyville good luck next year...but just because you drop down doesn't mean you'll win it all. HJ finished in a tie for 3rd that year with Silsbee. And last year Buna only beat 2 3a teams in that district, barley beat Silsbee (4 -3) and HF (3-2). what did they finish in that district?? 4th and 5th. You did play HJ lost (6 - 1) and Jasper 2 times and lost both, (8 -0) and (4-0), what did Jasper finish that district? 3rd This just shows the difference between 2A and 3A when a state 2a team can't put a run up on a third place 3a team. yah in what 91. What happened to them when teams like Bridge City, Silsbee, Jasper Dropped down from 4A to 3A?? GOT WHIPPED!!! There is a big difference between 3a and 2a. I don't think Buna would have made playoffs in that 3a district. HJ, Jasper, BC and Silsbee would have beat them. But in 2A you go to Little Rock!! Big difference!! Not to take anything away from your team or coaches, You have a great team, just don't underestimate those cats!! If you read It is stated that buna had a hard time competing against schools twice there size when Jasper and BC size schools dropped down that is fact and you can't hide that. It is true that Buna lost to 3A schools last year and they were good schools that is why they were put on the schedule. A tough non-district schedule helps you when it comes to district and the playoffs Fact!! But if your school wants to play inferior talent schools to pad stats and records that is fine too. I played for Buna in the 90's when it was a 3A school and our non-district schedule was tough. Playing in the Lumberton and Nederland tournaments. We did not play a 3A team until we got to district unless it was in a tourney and unavoidable (4 and 5A only). Buna refuses to schedule cupcake teams in non-district because they would rather be 14-11 and in the playoffs than 20-10 and not in the playoffs FACT!!
  8. Just cause you have not seen Alice play don't dismiss them that easy. Their backs are quick and have speed. There Qb hits his marks and can go deep. The team overall has speed and size. I spent all last week down in Alice visiting a friend and went to the Mission and Ray playoff games and they were not even close. I am going with Alice in this one.
  9. 12. In my opininon the only way Kirbyville would have a chance against Buna in the playoffs (cause they are not in the same district) is if they win the coin flip and choose a one game series. But then that prob will not be enough just look at what they did to Hempill last year. Hemphill thought they had the game wraped up in the sixth when they were up 8-1 but we all know how that turned out.
  13. I would have to say Buna vs Kountze 1997 Buna's middle linebacker (Rusty Fry) hit the Kountze RB and it looked like the rb was laying on a table about four feet in the air. One of the local news stations got it on tape and ended up sending it to ESPN and it made one of their highlight segments
  14. Now since it has gotten so much attention that the Lumberton police are going to think about doing something!!! I bet if it was a BC coach who went to the Lumberton side he would have been arrested on the spot!!!!
  15. Lumberton police probe Pee Wee football coach fisticuffs By JULIE SHEHANE November, 19, 2008 Extra security will be on the sidelines at Saturday’s first post-season Pee Wee football game between Lumberton and Bridge City to ensure that the kind of brawl that broke out last week between coaches and parents does not happen again. “Our other Lumberton team will be playing Bridge City in the playoffs, but we will have extra people there to make sure the kids get to focus on football and not childish adults fighting,†said Mike Minton, president of the Lumberton Youth Football and Cheerleading Association. The group permanently banned an unidentified Lumberton coach from the league in a Tuesday board meeting. He also could face criminal charges stemming from the assault of a Bridge City coach during the season’s final game. “The coach has been banned for life from participating in our league, and the team has already been assigned a new coach,†Minton said. One other Lumberton coach and two Bridge City coaches have been suspended by the Southeast Texas Junior Football League following the incident, according to Minton. “We have a no-tolerance policy, so you act up and you’re gone, and it’s a shame to have to deal with something like this,†Minton said. “This is our 10th season, and we’ve never had an incident before.†The incident happened Saturday at a 7- and 8-year-old Pee Wee football game against Bridge City. The first-year tackle game took place at Lumberton Middle School. “This shouldn’t have happened. It was childish,†said Minton, who was on the field for most of the game. The undefeated teams were in the final minutes of the fourth quarter when the assault took place. “A few Lumberton people walked over to the Bridge City side,†Minton said. “I still don’t know why, but there was a Bridge City coach who had been very loud the whole game, and he started making horrible insults about the sister of one of our coaches, and he reacted.†At least three other coaches and several parents from both sides joined in the altercation before it was broken up, Minton said. “It happened so fast, and we did the best thing we could do and that was to try and break it up,†he said. “The whole thing lasted a couple minutes, and it was mostly pushing and shoving. “The kids were taken away from the altercation as quick as we could get them, so they were protected, but this is embarrassing for our league and it shouldn’t have happened.†Police were investigating the incident, and criminal charges could be filed. “We’ve reviewed a videotape from the game, and we are still investigating the incident,†said Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins. “Right now we are basically looking at an incident where one coach assaulted another coach. “These things don’t happen at our football games, and we certainly won’t put up with it.†The Bridge City Youth Football and Cheerleading Association could not be reached for comment late Wednesday. Edward Snipes, 38, who was at the game to see his Bridge City nephew play, said coaches from both sides acted inappropriately. “The kids didn’t know what to do; (Bridge City) intercepted a fumble and got ready to run it down when all of a sudden coaches and parents are going toe-to-toe on the field,†said Snipes, a Port Arthur resident. Referees stopped the game immediately after the altercation, Minton said. “They stopped the game and the kids were the only grown-ups there,†Snipes said. “They went to center field and shook hands just like they always do. The supposed adults could take a lesson from their kids.†Bridge City won the game 34-18, said Minton, adding that he wishes both teams good luck in the upcoming playoffs. “We’re going to make sure that we talk to and act on any person that had anything to do with the situation,†Minton said. “After that, we hope to move on and get this behind us.â€

The Cougars qualified for state for 4th time with regional wins over Cy-Fair, Rockdale and Marlin. Buna was undefeated on the year at 40-0 and won its third consecutive state championship. Many consider the 1957 Buna team, led by twins Don and Pat Stanley, to be the greatest team in TX H.S. history as the 2-A Cougars defeated the 4-A champion, Port Arthur, twice (51-42 & 50-45) during the year and cruised thru the state tournament with 24 and 29 point victory margins. Buna has won seven state championships (1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1963) and won 58 straight games from 1951-53 & 66 straight games from 1955-57. Buna won 126 consecutive district games from 1952-1963 and 15 straight state tournament games from 1954-1963. Buna was coached by M.N. “Cotton†Robinson (1948-1963) in all of its seven state championships—a state record. Robinson played at Southwestern LA in 1946-47 and was elected to the TX H.S. Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983. The Buna dynasty is chronicled in Harold Ratliff’s 1976 book, Texas Boys Basketball: A History, published by the U.I.L. Buna is one of seven schools who have won the boys and girls state basketball championships in the same year---Buna in 1956, 1957 & 1961; Dallas S. Oak Cliff in 1977; Nazareth in 2002; Morton in 1987; Abernathy in 1991; Sudan in 1995; & Brock in 2002 & 2003. Seminole made five appearances in the state finals winning state titles in 1955 & 1979. Buna was led in the semi-final by Pat Stanley with 36 points. In the final Don Stanley scored 51 points to break the state record held by Russell Boone at 50. Seminole was led by Leland Caffey and Archie English with 10 points each. Don Stanley made 20 of 27 FGs and 11 FTs in the record performance. That record still stood in 2006 as the most points in any game and in a championship game at the state tournament. The 2A All State Tournament Team included Pat and Don Stanley of Buna; James Davis and Robert Brown of Clear Creek; and Donnie Wilson of Seminole. The Stanley twins played on a national championship team in 1958 at Tyler J.C. and at Texas A&M where both twins were all-SWC as seniors? Don Stanley (1953-57) was elected to the TX H.S. 21. Lets go Rebs!!!! Were pulling for in Buna. I am going with Evadale 27-21
  22. Oh PLEASE! are you all kidding? Just cause Buna played all the weak teams in the district earlier in the season, and now the Bucs are playing them all at the end of the season. This is a joke! We beat most of those teams like a drum...WITHOUT BLANTON CRAFT.....We had a freshman that had just been pulled up from JV rush for 112 yards on like 9 carries against Warren.....Lets not count our chickens folks......But I will say this....if The Coogs win, it definately won't be because we have better coaches....just better players.....GO COOGS!!! Seems to me that bigd66 is a fair weather Buna fan!!! Praises when they win finger pointing when they lose. Do us a favor and pick a side you are either with us or against us!!!! Go Coogs lets get a win tonight!!! Good luck to both teams
  23. It is amazing who really knows!!! All I know is it don't look to good for Livingston. Sorry the kid had to move from Dayton to Livingston but not his fault.
