  5. One thing I would like to say is that it varies by team. I used to follow LCM very closely and prior to the "Moody Era", LCM had never lost it's season opening game and finished the year with a winning record. At some schools, it is important to play tough non-district competition. At other places, you need to try and build confidence in the players, coaches, and fans which will hopefully translate into more victories down the road. I think you have to look at what works best for your school.
  6. MMSLB I figured you would think I would throw out Don Dean, but actually he was surpassed by Mauriceville's own Donald Tardy, who threw for 378(I think) against Vidor in 2004. Don is second with 348 against Hardin Jeff in 1970 and Plant is probably third. I have looked and looked for a copy of that Vidor game from 2004, but neither school has it and I can't find it anywhere. Would love to have it though, my last game at LCM. Another kid named Raul Gomez also threw for over 300 that year (2004) against Pleasant Grove at SFA. THree-thrity something I think. Just for knowing all the coaches and the overtime answer, I give you another A.
  7. Alright MMSLB, here we go again. I have a headache from thinking so hard. These are pretty easy really: # 1 - Coach Crouch is the tenth Head FB Coach in LCM History. Name all ten in order with the years they were the HC. # 2 - What former all state DB who later played at Lamar University holds the LCM Career record for interceptions? # 3 - To my knowledge, there has only been one overtime game played at Bear Stadium. Who was the game against and who won? # 4 - Name the wide receiver who was named ALL STATE in 1975. # 5 - Who holds the LCM record for most passing yards in a single game? This one may surprise you.
  8. An A it shal forever be. I am still working on some more good questions for round 2, I think I will have to go deeper to stump MMSLB.
  9. MMS LB I give you an A- for your grade on this exam. The large FB was a kid named Alan Lafluer, soon after, the UIL outlawed the wearing of the number 0. More to come...
  10. #1, 4, & 5 correct Hint for #2, This coach left LCM and went into the concrete business with his brother in the HOuston Area. HInt for #3 A very large Fullback who played for Coach Dupree in 1982.
  11. For all you Bear fans out there, test your knowledge with a little Bear Trivia: Here goes... Question # 1 - Who was the first Head FB Coach in LC-M History and what professional team did he coach for after leaving LC-M? Question # 2 - Which former Head FB Coach began the tradition of calling LCM Sports Teams the "Battlin'" Bears? Question # 3 - Who was the last LCM football player to wear the jersey number 0 in an official game? Question # 4 - Who started at QB the first time LC-M beat WO-S? What was the score of the game? Question # 5 - Which former LCM QB went on to start at QB for McNeese State? MORE TO FOLLOW.....
  12. Monte Barrow was darn good Havard Dean I know they had some good ones inthe 70's Bobby August threw a mean pre-game
  13. Gerald Landry and Jerry Ball must be on it Jackie Ball also Marlborough many others I am sure.

  15. LCM HEAD COACHES THROUGH THE YEARS James Crossland 1971-74 Randall Dorsett 1975 Lidneey Thompson 1976-1980 Ron Dupree
  16. If LCM is 3rd or 4th, I would like to know who is 1 & 2 or 1 , 2 & 3? What Griff and the Bears have accomplished year after year speaks for itself. Anyone who doesn't recognize this program as one of the best in TEXAS is fooling themselves.
  17. PNG @ PA LINCOLN 1996 Lincoln player delivered a blow on a punt return that was as vicious as I have ever seen. The kid from PNG was out before he hit the ground. I don't remember any names, but it was a bad A$$ Lick!
  18. We scrimmaged Lockhart and they are big up front with a power running game. It is really the Slot T more than the Wing T. They hunker down on the offensive line(4 point stance) and they come off the ball. I don't know how big Central is this year, but they will have to be physical up front. As far as their defense goes, they are average, but they rest alot while the offense grinds it out. They have run their system for about four years now and it shows. Like all slot/wing t teams, they fake really really well. Also, though like alot of slot/wing t teams, if you follow the guards, you will find the ball. I don't think they will hold up to Central's speed and big play capability. I look for Central to break it open late and win going away. Central 35-20.
  19. 2003 LCM vs. CENTRAL @ Battlin Bear Stadium ANKLE DEEP AND MUDDY! LCM SCORED LATE AND MISSED XP 7-6 Jags
  20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SS#10 Woodville at SS#5 Kountze BS#3 West Orange-Stark at BS#4 Nederland BS #5 Jasper vs Gilmer at Tyler’s Rose Stadium (Thur.) 21. I was watching that tape of the "Incident" yesterday and it is just as funny now as it was then. The Bear did initiate the first "Fisticuffs", however, the Indian came on the LCM side the scond time and was just asking for it, so the Bear let him have it. What alot of people forget is the GREAT FOOTBALL Game that followed the Bear vs. Indian. LCM goes down 21-7 at halftime only to come back and win 34-21 behind Bo Louis, Chris Omey, and Jeremy Crossin + A great Bear Defense.
  22. Good point, I am so glad we have overtime now! At least now somebody wins instead of just "advancing". I remember 2003 when LC-M won three games in overtime in one year (Silsbee, Vidor, and Lumberton).
  23. I have to go with 1979 LCM at Jasper. Jasper was ranked #1 in the state and LC-M beat them with a FG on the last play of the game. I was just 11, but I remember that game like it was yesterday. Another game I remember was LC-M vs. Jasper in 1983. LC-M had the lead late and needed a first down to seal the victory. I think we gained the yardage needed two or three times only to have each play nullified by penalty. Jasper threw a long pass with little time remaining and got a pass interference call inside the LC-M 5 yd line (In those days PI was marked at the spot of the foul). If I am not mistaken, Jasper missed the first FG attempt, but we were offsides and they made the second to win it 16-14. Heartbreaker for us, but still a great game. Also, Central at LC-M in 2003. MUD BOWL, the water was ankle deep on the field. LC-M scored late but missed the extra point to lose 7-6. All great games, I am sure there are many others.
  24. Joe Bob Isbell from Little Cypress in the late 1950's also went to U of H and also played for the Dallas Cowboys.
