**PN-G vs. Galena Park Bi District Game At PN-G**
KFDM COOP replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The rest of the reserve and general admission tickets will go on sale from 8 to 4 on Wednesday and Thursday and from 8 to noon on Friday at the PNGISD administration office. Ticket prices will be $4 for students and $6 for adults. All tickets at the stadium gates on Friday night will cost $7. A thorough installation of prescription turf, a three-story press box, a renovation of stands on the home side and new concession areas will require a massive construction project to begin in late December or early January at Indian Stadium. That major project adds to the special significance for PN-G to get yet one more home game. -

www.panews.com Coin flips give PN-G home game By Tom Halliburton The Port Arthur News PORT NECHES -- Those 31 Port Neches-Groves senior football players just thought they wore purple on The Reservation for the last time against Beaumont Central. A couple of coin flips later, the Indians have another reservation for The Reservation on Friday night, Nov. 16 in the 4A Division 1 (big school) bidistrict playoffs against Galena Park High School at 7:30 p.m. Call the Indians a bit lucky. Or quite a bit. That's cool. They don't mind. PN-G won two coin flips on Monday afternoon in Winnie when PNGISD officials Matt Burnett and Pat Briggs met with Galena Park representatives. Burnett gladly deferred the coin-flip decisions to his school's student activities director after the Indians' coach watched his team be eliminated from the 2005 playoffs due to coin flips. Briggs accurately called two coin tosses on Monday. It's a situation that is very rare indeed in the Indians' storied football lore. Never in Burnett's playing or coaching days has PN-G had a playoff game in Indian Stadium. The Tribe's officials were so giddy about their news that they were thinking it to be a first-ever occasion. Well, it's not, but it's been a long while since it's happened. The Indians won the AAA state championship in 1953 on The Reservation when they beat Big Spring, 24-13. Former Port Arthur News sportswriter John DeVillier wrote up that event, but that's probably the last time that the Indians would host a playoff game in Indian Stadium. "It's just great for our fans, players and coaches that we don't have to travel," Burnett said on Monday night. "I'm not a kid and sometimes I don't realize how much it means to them to get to play at home. "I asked the kids this morning during the athletic period that if 'we had an opportunity, would they want me to try to flip for home field' and the answer was an overwhelming 'yes'." Here's what Burnett and Galena Park head coach Ray Zepeda had to hash out on Monday. First, a coin flip determined whether or not the Indians-Yellowjackets game would be played at either team's home field or at a neutral site. That flip landed in favor of the game being played at either team's home field. Second, another coin flip landed with the purple side shining brightly and PN-G had itself a post-season home game. Student activities director and assistant principal Briggs -- the accurate coin-flip guesser -- indicated the ticket sales would begin Monday and Tuesday for season-ticket holders only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those season-ticket holders would be permitted to secure their exact number of season-ticket seats during those days. [Hidden Content] Jarael Alexander, Memorial — This junior quarterback made quite the impact with his legs in the Titans 44-42 thrilling victory over winless Baytown Sterling on Friday night. Alexander rushed for 199 yards on 30 carries and scored one touchdown to help Memorial keep its playoff hopes alive. Alexander's efforts earned him top honors for player-of-the-week. Honor Roll Clint Burnett, Port Neches-Groves -- The Indians were not short on standouts in their 42-21 rout over Central on Friday night. Reciever and cornerback Brett Doty scored two touchdowns and defensive end Zeke Schexneider made several big tackles along the way, but Burnett's 10 tackles, two sacks and fumble recovery earned him the top-spot for the Tribe. Head coach Matt Burnett said the entire defense played great and several players deserved the honor. Clint graded out a 91. Hagan Daigle, Hampshire-Fannett -- This running back made huge contributions with just a handful of opportunities. Daigle scored twice on just eight carries and ripped off 131 rushing yards against Bridge City on Friday night. The Longhorns crushed the Cardinals 63-21. Aaron Clark, Sabine Pass — This running back did all the scoring for his team on Friday night. He rushed for 132 yards on eight carries and scored three touchdowns. Joe Robertson, Bridge City -- Robertson has been no stranger to big rushing nights. On Friday night, Robertson rushed for 121 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown.

Pettitte declines Yankees option, weighting future ORLANDO, Fla. -- Andy Pettitte declined his $16 million option with the New York Yankees, still uncertain whether he wants to pitch next season. "I have spoken with Brian Cashman, who has reiterated what Hank Steinbrenner said about the Yankees wanting to give Andy all the time he needs to decide about next season," Pettitte's agent, Randy Hendricks, said Monday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "Accordingly, we are declining to exercise the option for 2008 and Andy will declare free agency in order to free up a roster spot for the Yankees. "If Andy decides to play, I am confident we can reach an agreement with the Yankees within 24 hours. The only options, as Andy has stated, are the Yankees or retirement. He appreciates the Yankees' willingness to give him the time he feels he needs. I do not expect him to make a decision for quite some time." The 35-year-old left-hander went 15-9 with a 4.05 ERA for the Yankees this year, including 11-3 after the All-Star break. He was their most effective starter in the postseason, pitching 6 1/3 scoreless innings in Game 2 of New York's first-round loss to Cleveland. Pettitte had until Wednesday to decide on his option, part of the contract he agreed to last December when he returned to the Yankees after three seasons with his hometown Houston Astros. That deal paid him a $16 million salary this year. "Obviously, we want Andy to stay with the Yanks and pitch for us in '08. In fact, I'd say I need him to," said Cashman, the team's general manager. "He's an important piece for us. ... We're hopeful that at some point that the marriage of the Pettittes and the Yankees can continue." Last month, he said he wasn't sure whether he would play again, saying he had to relax and discuss the matter with his family. "I wouldn't have ever imagined my arm feeling as good as it has," he said. "I'm just very, very blessed, feel very blessed that my arm has held up and I felt strong all year. I haven't had any problems with my elbow this year." Last week, however, Pettitte was still weighing retirement or playing. "It probably wouldn't be real honorable for me not to do anything other than if I shut it down, shut it down or go back and play for the New York Yankees," he told KRIV television. New York is in a state of flux. Manager Joe Torre left after 12 seasons when the team offered him a paycut, and third baseman Alex Rodriguez chose to terminate his record $252 million, 10-year contract with three seasons remaining and become a free agent. The Yankees have said they won't negotiate with A-Rod now that he's opted out. New York is attempting to re-sign closer Mariano Rivera and catcher Jorge Posada, who both became free agents. Cashman said Pettitte called him and they spoke for 10-20 minutes. Pettitte has a standing offer of $16 million he can accept at any time. Cashman wouldn't discuss whether the team would entertain a new deal. "He told me specifically this is not about waiting to see what kind of club we have on the field and anything regarding the manager," Cashman said. "He's earned the right to take some more time, as far as we're concerned." Without Pettitte, new Yankees manager Joe Girardi would have a projected starting rotation that includes 19-game winner Chien-Ming Wang, who lost twice to Cleveland in the playoffs; Mike Mussina, who will be 39 next month; and youngsters Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy. On another front, Cashman said he will use this week's GM meetings to explore options for replacing Rodriguez at third base. "It's time to start scoping out all our needs," he said. "Third is one of them. That's not going to develop all that quickly." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Kountze Needs A Little Help For Playoff Birth Mike Friedman In District 24-2A, there's currently a three way tie for first place between East Chambers, Hardin, and Buna, who are all 4-1 with Kountze on everyone's heels at 3-2. The scenario for the Lions to make the playoffs isn't far fetched at all. Last Friday's win over previously unbeaten East Chambers kept the Kountze Lions hopes of playing in week eleven alive. East Chambers and Hardin play each other this Friday and if Hardin knocks off the Bucs and Kountze takes care of (0-5) Deweyville then Hardin, Buna, and Kountze will be playoff bound. It's been 34 years since Kountze football has been in the playoffs and while they need a Hardin win to make it in, that wont matter unless they take care of business themselves at Deweyville this Friday night Here are the details for the Lions-Pirates match up. Kountze will be the visitors this Friday with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff set for the showdown in Deweyville. Video will be posted online tonight. The Friday night tailgate party will have coverage of this and so much more this Friday night. Be sure to watch KFDM Sports and check the website this week for a detailed rundown of The week 10 finale on Tailgate Party. Kountze Video Preview [Hidden Content]
