9.

Manvel probably got their high rating because Coach Martin and his staff are great at developing and selling players to D1 schools! Manvel is VERY fortunate to have him as their coach. Look at what he has done the past few years. Honest question – has any school in SETX, GHA, Region 3, Texas or the whole country for that matter ever had two QBs in a single graduating class that both went on to play on D1 teams? People laugh about a two-QB system saying if you have more than one QB than you don’t have any, but Martin has made it work with two different sets of QBs, and all four have gone on to the D1 level. It’s probably that reputation that builds to a (in my mind questionably) high ranking. Of course it takes the raw talent coming in to achieve that, but coaches have to manage and develop it also. More proof of Coach Martin’s leadership is how his oldest son has turned out. Koda is an incredible leader. Look him up on twitter. Awesome posts. Great young man! Removing the sandbags for a moment, I heard that Martin’s younger son is a QB. Eighth grade this fall, sharing the QB role with another tough QB who is 6’1” and already doing one-handed dunks in basketball.  With Manvel likely to play sophs and a junior at QB this year and those two coming up, Manvel’s QB pipeline looks pretty solid! The PAM / Manvel game was one of the best of the year! Two teams with a lot of talent. It came down to a couple of factors – PAM lost a stud OL in the first quarter, just like Manvel lost a stud OL in the first quarter against Aledo. That caused a lot of additional pressure on the backfield. Then two big turnovers deep in PAM territory in the 2nd quarter, one a pick-6 and the other a sack/fumble that Manvel converted a few plays later to create score spacing that PAM couldn’t recover from. Otherwise the game would have probably come down to the last possession. I guess if Manvel got its rating from beating PAM, that's a pretty strong endorsement of PAM as well!
GREAT POST RHBoiler!  Martin has definitely been a blessing to the Manvel program and he works well with not only the kids but his assistants, scouts, parents and the community as a whole ... just a great guy.  He loves for the program to win on and off the field as proven with how hard he works to get these kids to the next level. The D1 commits are just what many see on the surface but several of the other kids get offers from D2, D3 and JC's.  As of today, OLB Coach ED still working with a D1 commit from the 2012 state squad that has been converted to OLB a the next level... spent a whole day with this kid and they will right back at it tomorrow.  There's a lot of love in this program that trickles down from that present D1 ex-Manvel Maverick to that Freshman kid in the weight room looking on.  Kids play hard for Kirk and staff... one night you are on JV and the next week you get 15 carries on Friday night.  Freshman, Soph., Jr., Sr? doesn't matter...  Work your ass off year round, learn the plays and keep your nose clean... you'll get your chance!  With that said, I think Manvel is ranked because most of these young kids logged major time last year.  Other than those standout D1 skill players that graduated, the others were continuously rotated.  2 of our top 4 recruits are sophomores this year.  I think we will be fine. NOW! PAM... GREAT TEAM... Simple as that. DC ranked or not! If and I mean if there is ever a day PAM is classified 4A the whole complex of this board will change.  PAM is head and shoulders above most 5A teams D1 & D2 and will punish the surrounding 4A teams for years to come.  I'm sorry, no other way to say it! I say that because Manvel played a few (at the time) top level SETX teams in playoffs prior to leaving 4A being Dayton and PNG in the playoffs... and that game with PAM was a whole different animal.  No comparison between level of competition! (The PAM 4A scenario came about through a post I read somewhere about school numbers declining... not saying it was factual.) By the way... I work in the Beaumont/PA area a lot and you guys should be proud of Harrison and the Titan Program. I noticed how many of those kids go to the next level as well.  Keep up the good work out there!
I wouldnt want to be in 20-4A soon to be 5A, trust me, i know. I hope we stay in the district with NS, LP etc....

Lets close down Humble HS ...send them to SC ...we'll own any district you put in.
Does math allude you?  Lets look at the math here.    Let's say that of the 2000 homes the average family size is 4.  So we can safely predict that wil be the case with 8000 additional people to the area.  (the average family size in this area is actually closer to 5, but we will low ball).    of those 8000 people we know that roughly 17% will be from the ages 10-19 (per US Census numbers)...thats 1300+....even if you split that up for a 1/3 going to HS (actually probably closer to little less then half) thats 400+ kids added.  But it doesn't stop there....Because that is only 1 developer out of 8 that are building in summer creek.    2-3 years from the completion of these neighborhoods, you are looking at potentially up to 2000+ kid growth.    You say it can't happen that fast?  Well it happened to Humble in the early 2000's when we went from a mid 2K enrollment to nearly 5k kids. And why would we close Humble down to please you?  It should be the other way around.  We have more tradition, we have played football for nearly 100 years, and we have produced better teams.    lol
The big growth at Humble you mention was the boom in building in Summerwood, Fall Creek, and the other masterplans. Those kids went to Humble awaiting a new AHS. Yes, they're still building and more kids will come, but the building is easily 90% complete. We'll see what pops up when Generation Park gets rolling. You and I both know most of these parents will want to see their kids attend AHS and their tax dollar power should allow them to have their way. SC is currently the hot school for kids around Humble proper and outside Humble ISD.  We'll see how it goes. You clearly know ur stuff and have data, but I'm looking at the grey area of the reality of human life.
You and that word Reality dont even go together in the same breath  ;D

My biggest knocks on Ned is they don't seem to be good defending the pass and they don't score a lot of points.  If they face an offense w/ the ability to throw and score quickly, sounds like certain death for Ned.  They're not gonna win a shoot out (if their team this year is similar to last year).
So..  averaging 30 points per game in 2012 no longer qualifies you as "scoring a lot of points"?    ???
They did score well during the the first 3/4 of the season.  I stand corrected.  They slowed down significantly during the last four games.  Did a key player get hurt?
their last 4 season games saw a combined 165 pts scored and only 26 allowed.
I'm talking into the playoffs.  I got 66 points for Ned.  Opponents = 74.  Also, they only scored 21 on DAYTON.  They had to be resting starters.
Also another game i attended. NED only needed to score 21, they played field-position the whole game and as soon as Dayton made a mistake they capitalized on it. It was a classic Nederland playoff win, run clock and play field position and as soon the opponent panics and makes a mistake capitalize on it.
I hear ya, but why take your time...really? Ned should have been able to run up and down the field on those guys.  I can see playing a more conservative game against a Pearland ...but when you have every advantage, just blow them out.
Depends on the gameplan, I for one wouldnt want to get into a track-meet with Dayton once they get going on offense based on their past history. Blowing teams out is not in NED's pedigree but if you allow them to then they will take advantage of your mistakes thus blowing you out potentially (i've seen it before) .

Our district appears top heavy this year. What do you think? Should be fun this year.........
Yeah Pinelandflash, I fully expect our game to be for the district championship.  I also don't think it's entirely out of the question for both of us to be 6-0 and possibly play each other again in round 4.  I think Shelbyville will be improved, SA will still be good, but their fans are dillusional if they think they are gone be as good as last year.  Grapeland as athletes/talent but would rather be on basketball court.  Cushing is Cushing.
Don't think Aledo is too high. Lost last year to Guyer and bring back a junior RB that is almost as good as Gray. If they go Division 2 they'll be the favorites. Division 1, same as last year. 2nd round for the title.
I actually think Cedar Park is the favorite in D2 rather Aledo goes or not. 16 returning starters from a state title team. IMO Cedar Park would have beaten Guyer. WF Ryder is high, Marshall and Dawson are low on the poll. I think Dawson is top 5 when the AP poll comes out though.
I don't think Cedar Park would have beaten Guyer last year, I think they would this upcoming season if they played. I think Aledo is top 10, just not #3. Dawson is just a wee bit overrated, they have they players to win it all its just that they played too sloppy last season and a few of the players would throw tantrums when something didn't go their way. If they can tighten things up next season then I don't think anyone in 4a will be able to stop them.
IDK, Guyer was blown out twice last year while Cedar Park's two 5a losses were to semi-finalist austint westlake and and 3 point loss to abeliene cooper who has one of the most dynamic players in the state in lorenzo joe. i think cedar park is the katy of 4a, they can win d1 or d2 title. no way to ever know but i think cedar park would have gotten them. dawson has the most starters in the district coming back from playoff teams to i think they the favorites to represent region 3 in d1.
shhhhh! your gonna upset demdawgs. ;D
Vidor just needs to worry about beating Nederland.  Sounding highly unlikely ...but am pulling for you guys.  Vidor definitely gets the heart award.  Any team with kids the size of most middle schools that can still compete gets a big pat on the back. I'm gonna trash talk as much as I can this year ...but SC needs to prove they can beat teams like Aledo, Cedar Creek, Guyer, etc.
Georgetown, Magnolia West..
This year's GT is no prob ...I'm curious to see if they go the same route as Humble.  MW ate up a weak inexperienced SC defense on the ground.
dude, we ate up your defense on the ground. had we not turned it over 6 times, who knows.
Yep ...moved the ball well ...but that's also about playing hide and seek with the football too.  It's not like you had 3 guys that you could put in the I-formation and dominate.  You owned the ground and SC owned the air.  Our passing attack was too much, plain and simple.  Also, you have to cancel some of those turnovers because you got a couple extra drives due to successful onside kicks (was impressed with the aggressive play calling btw).
i'm just making the point that your defense wasn't good enough to win a title. you blame the d for MW and I'm saying it didn't help you this past season either. you blame enrollment #'s, but in reality, it was the defense. I think you know this. and yes, we had no answer for your passing game. in fact we knew it was going to be the difference before hand. we needed to play mistake free and keep Sharp on the sideline but it didn't work out that way.
You're right about the defense.  They played a bend-but-don't-break style.  I don't recall seeing too many sacks during the year.  I also don't recall a game where our defense would get the game ball ...but they did make some key plays from time to time.  Crosby game stands out well.  We had a key stop on 4th and short on our side of the field.  Also had an INT in the endzone which was a back breaker.  SC defense is going to be a HUGE indicator this year.  We have about 3 proven stand out players and a couple more that "should" be stand outs.  Really not seeing any big D lineman and that worries me.
I would think you move some of them D1 studs off the O side of the ball and put them at DBs or Safety... maybe 1 of the 5 or 6 at RB and move them to LBs... its about team play... and a decent WR makes for a hell of a DB most of the time... a 2nd or 3rd string RB makes a great LB...
You gotta remember their DEPTH problem Coach.  ;)

Today, we reflect on and commemorate the freedom and independence of African Americans in America and around the world. Juneteenth was first celebrated in Texas in 1865 and has since spread across the United States and worldwide. People often wonder why Juneteenth is celebrated on the 19th of June, instead of on September 22nd, when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln. The answer to this question is of great historical significance to the history of the United States: It was on June 18th that the Union Army marched into Galveston, Texas and enforced Lincoln's emancipation. Since then, celebrations in Galveston have been among the largest Juneteenth celebrations in the world!
IDK, Guyer was blown out twice last year while Cedar Park's two 5a losses were to semi-finalist austint westlake and and 3 point loss to abeliene cooper who has one of the most dynamic players in the state in lorenzo joe. i think cedar park is the katy of 4a, they can win d1 or d2 title. no way to ever know but i think cedar park would have gotten them. dawson has the most starters in the district coming back from playoff teams to i think they the favorites to represent region 3 in d1.
shhhhh! your gonna upset demdawgs. ;D
What you talking bout dustoff? SC is the favorites in Region 3 D1, the favorites to get knocked out 1st round again. Them "local world beaters in their own mind from SC" will not get out the 1st round of the playoffs for the foreseeable future (including this yr along with the 2 yrs after re-alignment) ;)
Those 1st and 2nd rounds are just as much about the luck of the draw as skill.  Had Ned or any other team in GT's path got GT 1st ...they're one and done.  Had Vidor lined up with a team like Tomball, Livingston, or a few others, they're onto the 2nd round.  Had Vidor got Ned in the 2nd round, its a toss up.  Vidor played those guys close and anything could happen in a rematch.  Ned could have been gone in round one or two ...but they drew favorable opponents.  SC could have been on to round three had they lined up against Angleton or Ned in the 2nd round. I'm still not sold on the realignment.  It will amaze me to see SC get anywhere near 3,000 kids any time soon.  Just don't see it.  Humble/Atascocita WAS booming, but this has slowed down.  Another big community needs to pop up or some AHS kids will need to get zoned to AHS AND they'll have to actually attend SC.
So beating the 4A #1 team in state was a weak schedule??  BTW, Angelton would have sent you home as well.
According to him beating Dawson should be easy  ::)
