  1. It is never good when you have to play WO-S at their house on senior night after they have had a subpar game. WO-S only beat Jasper by 24, well under the 60 points that OF and Silsbee beat them by. That is not typical of WO-S and anyone could have told you that not playing the way they are capable of combined with a must win situation equals trouble for their opponent. When you add the fact that OF had a very cold shooting night, the outcome is not surprising. No great team can play great every night. There will come the inevitable crappy game. That happened to OF against WO-S, one of the worst opponents you can play bad against cause they will make you pay. There were two positives that came out of last nights game. One, another Orange County team will represent 21-3A in the playoffs. Two, OF has their crappy game out of the way and can now get back to what they normally do...win! Good luck to both the OF and WO-S teams in the playoffs. You will represent us well.
  2. Is anyone else concerned with the fact that our young people can't spell correctly anymore? They spell everything in text-messaging format. Stop taking shortcuts and spell it out right or you will forget how.
  3. I can't help but think Kirbyville wants it more. They definitely NEED it more, they are trying to make the playoffs. But, Silsbee is more balanced. Who knows? I don't think it will be won by a large margin, whoever pulls off the win.
  4. You're right on target takemeouttotheballgame, anybody know something about the playoff bound teams our district will be facing?
  5. Not necessarily the worst gyms, but the SEATING at LCM and WO-S is the worst. The stands have narrow planks, no steps to go down, and are steep. I have wondered how many people have taken a header trying to get down from the upper stands.
  6. They don't have to shut her down, no one is saying that is possible. They just have to SLOW her down and Orangefield is talented enough to do that. Doesn't Kellum score about half Kirbyville's points each game?
  7. I see Noah Cole from Vidor plays for the Seahawks. I wondered where he ended up. Glad that Lamar-Pa has a basketball program. It gives players a chance to continue participating in the sport. Lamar is off to 2-0 in their conference.
  8. Any time you leave Brittney Scott wide open she will make you pay and HF played loose defense all night. Also, they were guarding Janae from behind and she got a lot of easy passes. She's so tall, once that happens, she will score as well. Hamshire Fannett just didn't show up to play. It was like a totally different team than usual. The WO-S and Kirbyville game should be a close one.
  9. Orangefield was only behind by 2 late in the game. Just couldn't pull off the upset.
  10. JV and Varsity games or only Varsity? What time does Varsity start?
  11. The Lady Cards are getting better each game. This was a great effort against a very good HJ team. The Orange Leader has a recap: [Hidden Content]
  12. I think Orangefield has one of the deepest benches in our area. I'm told there are many games where the entire team scores. Not many teams can say that.
  13. Any details?
  14. I didn't see any smack, just confidence. Good reason, too. They have a giant playing for them!
  15. There was only 1 ref at Monday nights game at BC too. As fast as the games are these days we need 3 refs to officiate. Most of them can't keep up with the kids. I know I couldn't!
  16. Caught the second half of the ball game. Orangefield was up at the half and came out strong and then seemed to fall completely apart shortly into the 3rd quarter. After about 7 minutes of bad play, they finally began to press and the 16 point deficit was down to 4 points after only about two and a half minutes. Those girls can score a lot of points in a hurry! If they had played that way for the rest of the game they would have won but it looked like they backed off some and started fouling. The game was a lot closer than the final score. There was a lot of foul shot opportunities for both teams. Silsbee was much better than OF at the free throw line. If OF can get more consistant on that and stay with their press, they will take the next game. Also, number 23 for Orangefield is a flat out athlete. If she gets better at getting into position on the boards, she will be a big weapon. That girl can jump! Silsbee played very well too. It looked like Orangefield was going to come back and take the game but they hung in there and finished it off. This is a great district!
  17. Good luck Lady Pirates!
  18. Is she out for more than one game?
  19. With her, Orangefield could have pulled it off in a squeaker. Without her, unless the rest of the team plays flawless basketball, Silsbee takes this one.
  20. This guy will be hard to defend. Maybe one player can stand on another's shoulders. They might be as tall as him that way!
  21. I think everyone is in agreement that it is exciting to see the Lady Pirates' program is looking brighter. I have seen some games where they gave it their all and also games where they didn't. No one questions their past desire to win but losing constantly can dim that fire. Hopefully the new coach is the spark they need. She's already gotten them off to a good start.
  22. Out of sync is not an excuse, it's the problem. Every team has those nights where nothing falls in, passes aren't where they should be, and the team just isn't clicking. You don't have to have an excuse for being out of sync, you just are. And that can cause you to lose if the other team is IN sync and playing good, which apparently was the case the other night.
  23. JV team or not, they got a taste of winning. That's got to feel good and make them have more confidence in themselves and their coach. Attitude and outlook is so important. I've always thought it was a shame that everyone, including the Vidor players themselves, always expect them to lose. Hopefully their program is on the way up. Good luck this year Lady Pirates!
