  1. I broke the silence in the creek bottom @ 6:20 AM, Barely light enough to see clearly. 1 shot. Clean kill! No backstrap though.... killed a darned ole coyote. Oh well. The wind was out of the East and I figure it was worth the bullet. I haven't fired a shot since.  ;D
  2. [quote They have one of the best knife displays I have ever seen. Anything from $5.99 to $1,000.. and HIgher Beautiful display It is worth the drive. I couldn't agree more! Quite impressive. I too, carry a Winchester in my pocket. Simple 2 blade. I prefer a good Buck knife with lock-blade to actually clean the game. "If you can't sharpen it, you shouldn't be carrying it"
  3. C'Mon people! We must take action immediately. There are way too many empty corn and feed bags littering our highways coming to and going from Jasper. I challenge all hunters, male or female to secure your empty bags in the back of you truck. Put them in a trash container at your camp house or make sure they get home with you to dispose of in your household trash. Let's take pride in our actions.
  4. [move]What's up with this? ??? [/move] Why in the world are we going all the way to Tyler on a Thursday night. 8:00 pm start. late night out for the students, staff, parents, and supporters. Have we ever done anything this radical in the past? I do not remember doing so. Can I get an explanation?
  5. I don't think he was complaining about $325. It's the jump to $800 that has him bothered. The lease was probably overfilled already to keep the price that low. So true. I was not complaining. I have been hunting on this tract of land for 24 years. Yes it has been an employee club. And yes it was and is still the cheapest club for many miles around. I can't help but wonder how many local people will pay $800,00 plus for the same land and herd that has been hunted for $75.00 - $125.00 Not to mention the large amount of clearcut property we are facing. I feel that we are in better shape than some of the area clubs that do not have as many hills and hollers that JWCC is bountiful with. I have heard of some clubs in the area that are as much as 70% clearcut. I am indeed thankful that Temple was a good neighbor. But with Arthur Temple out of the picture, It ain't the same company it used to be.
  6. That would be Big Chief Club???? I Have heard of some good deer over there. But none worth $7.00 an acre. I guess the old adage is true... You pay for convenience. It is close to home :
  7. How many local clubs are going to fall due to Campbell Groups new higher prices. I am on JWCC Club North of Jasper. We will have enough members to fill our club this year. Our price is going to be $325.00 this year. Next year may be different though. I am sure our price will be around $800.00 next year. I wish I had some land that I could raise the price on 200% for the next 3 years and then 100% the year after that. I think they will price themselves out. Sad to see all the clearcuts popping up around here. I have already heard about a couple of the clubs in the area that will not have enough members to fill there club roster. This area does not not have a quality deer herd that would be $7.00 an acre. Looks like they will have to build a parking lot in the National Forest areas (West HWY 63) I traveled through Angelina National Forest last year on Opening Day and it kinda resembled a parking lot. ;D
  8. Heads up! Let's get together and catch these no good for nothing thieves. I am the President for Jasper WildLife Conservation Club (JWCC) hunting Club in the NW corner of Hwy 96 & FM 255. We held a meeting this past Saturday and discovered someone had been to our camphouse and stole the copper wire out of the camphouse and surrounding areas. > > They stole the spotlights off of our skinning rack. They stole the lopper shears, fire extinguisher, scales and did some damage to a camper next to the camphouse. Just a few feet of romex wiring. You wouldn't think that would be worth the trouble. These people are just plain sorry. I want to encourage other area hunting clubs to put up cameras around the camps. Maybe we can find out who is doing this and press charges against them. I have filed a report with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. Dep Shives advised that they would be watching the gates in that area. Warden Phillip Woods advised he would try to make a pass through the area more often.
  9. I prefer nothing more than a small 2-3 blade kife in my pocket. Currently carrying a winchester. For anyone that is unfamiliar with it, I want to put a plug in for The little hardware store just south of Spurger on FM 1092 It is called Motts Here is the website..... [Hidden Content] They have one of the best knife displays I have ever seen. Anything from $5.99 to $1,000.. and HIgher Beautiful display It is worth the drive.
  10. It would be hard for me to say without tasting ALL of the competition, So if anyone wants my opinion, I could probably make a good judgement on 2-3 lbs. I can give you my address if interested ;D ;D ;D
  11. Has anyone found out where it was? I haven't seen anything else on it. ???
  12. Does anybody have any idea "Where " on Toledo Bend the trap was? Texas side or La. side???? Kinda looks like a TP&W uniform. Curious mostly. ???
  13. I looked at the pictures at home. I see red X's at work. *%$#* What's up?
  14. Hey Does anyone have the pics of the 12' gator in a hog trap? It was caught on Toledo bend. I do not know where it was at but I would guess it real, because there is a shot of a game warden at the back of the trap. I have it at work and I forgot to send them home. If you have it, please post it.
  15. Here is the horn mount for the one I killed earlier this month. I think it turned out OK. Let me know what you think.
  16. Hey Dawg. You are jumpin' the gun a little bit, huh? MAybe this wasn't s'posed to post yet. I thought gobbler season didn't open 'til April ????!? ;D ??? :-*
  17. You don't know what you are missing. Fried to a light golden brown ( batter) Add a little cream gravy and chow down. I heard of another concoction that is really good. Take the backstrap before you slice it up. Slice it down one side about 3/4 of the way through it. Then on the inside of it slice it again down the length of it...kinda make an envelope of it. Then lay some pepper jack cheese in the middle of it. Then you stuff the inside with your favorite brand of boudain. Then you fold the sides back over it all and wrap it with bacon slices. Wrap it in foil and cook slow over coals on the grill. A couple of hours later, slice it up and chow down.
  18. Hey I have some pictures that show the horns better. It scored 165 7/8 I can't figure out how to post them. Send me a PM and I will send 'em to you.
  19. Your right. That is pretty cool. I have a habit of looking at the fish and game forecast on [Hidden Content] I know the deer do not read it, but I have seen some truth to it. It showed 10:30 A.M. good to excellent this morning. I took a 3 1/2 yr old 8 point this morning at 7:50. Can you believe he had fresh fiber on his horns. He had been rubbing this morning. Yippee My dry spell is over. I hadn't pulled the trigger on it since Thanksgiving of '04. I can smell the sausage now.... well my imgination works well.
  20. As the old saying goes; " If you snooze, You loose.)
  21. I still use my remington 30.06. I have killed every deer I have HIT with it. I ain't gonna tell you I have hit every time I pulled the trigger. It is not a good brush gun, but very deadly at any range from 75 yards to 250 yards. personally my longest shot has only been about 125 yards. My Daddy gave me the gun about 20 years ago. He had purchased it at a pawn shop in La. He gave it to me as a bithday gift. Ironically, that would be today. It was in a hard gun case. Complete with leather sling and weaver scope. I still store it in the case during the off season. I use remington core loct 150 grain. I used to use a 6MM. Don't see many of those today.
