  1. Refugio has a freshman RB/DB name Draigon Silvas, who is Willie Mac Garza's (HS hall of famer, UT Star and Tennessee DB's coach) nephew and he is a spitting image on and off the field. This kid is as quick as any freshman I have ever witnessed, breaks tackles for a smallish guy and holds onto the ball. On defense, he will knock your man part off. He opened up the game in the second quarter last nigh on a fourth and one when he broke a 61 yard touchdown run agains Blanco. He has 800 or so yards on the year and would have many, many more if he played for a team which wasn't so loaded as Refugio. He had 123 yards last night on 10 carries.
  2. My dad lives in Cuero and I follow them pretty closely. They have a D-1 QB/Punter in Tyler Arndt and probably the best or at least top two soph. rb in the State, Trent Jackson. He has about 2,300 + yards rushing on the season and had 1,700+ as a freshman starting on varsity last year. As far as the games goes, Cuero's defense gives up lots of points, even to mediocre teams. I look for Gilmer 45-17 or so. Cuero may score some points, but I just do not see them keeping up with Gilmer, which should score at will. For anyone going, the Jackson kid is seriously special. Gonna be fun to watch him improve and grow.
  3. I am actually from Refugio and think it is a shame that such a weak team is playing in the quarterfinals. But then again, I also stongly feel that the current system of having a "big school" and "small school" divisions in the lower classifications is simply ridiculous. Good luck to your Wildcats.
  4. George West played a patsy schedule and would get killed by any decent 2A school. Their district is one of the weakest in the state and they play terrible teams in non-district. They have no team speed but are just better than the weak teams in the area. If they somehow beat a five loss Comfort team, they will lose by 30 next week. Book it.
