1. Two observations I have made that parents want and think. 1 - Some parents want the ten best players on the field  -  plus their son. 2 - Some parents think college scholarships are like halloween candy - anyone can get some. Notice I said some, not all parents feel this way but these thoughts create a lot of tension between Coaching staffs and parents.  Most parents are reasonable and grateful, but the loud and defensive parents often become a majority in our minds eye. Nothing provokes emotions like parents that have honestly convinced themselves their kid is getting screwed.
2. I dont know how much truth there is in any of this conjecture about AJ.  There are coaches and programs that give second chances to kids but the biggest limitation AJ has put on himself in this situation is academic elegibility.  If he has created a situation that puts his future academic eligibility in question that will really limit what options he has and what programs he has access to. It is unfortunate that what ever the circumstances are that he let academics become a limiting factor.  It sounds like he is already a semester behind plus any issues from his first semester.  This can be overcome but he is going to have to make a committment to academics like he never has before.  College programs have little to no tolerance for academic casulties because of all the support they give athletes.  I wish the young man good luck.
3.
Well Soulja I've got Jaguar blood in my veins as well but West Brook did get a gem in Jacobi Lee.  I coached him over a Legacy under Coach Cobbs his freshman year and he was a big part of them making the playoffs that year.  Legacy boo booed in not doing what it took to keep him and C. Miller (#35 LB) from Central along with Cobbs as the coach and it showed this past year.  Never seen Lee Sr. play but from what I hear he was pretty good.  Wish Jr. was wearing maroon and silver instead of red and blue.  Also was pretty good on the basketball court and ridiculously fast on the track.
They boo booed by not keeping Coach Boyd as well, and it showed the past three years.
4. The inside D lineman, Bennett will be the player hardest to replace at West Brook.  He is an undersized inside D lineman but if you saw this young man play ball you know what I am talking about.  He hustles sideline to sideline, relentlessly pursues the ball and makes big plays at big moments.  West Brook developed a lot of young talent on the line this past year and ultimately will find replacements but replacing Bennett's heart..........they will be fortunate to come close.
5. West Brook Lady Bruin basketball is a disaster and will continue to be a disaster until changes are made.  Change is needed but no one seems to care.  Women's basketball is being played like basketball is supposed to be played at Central and Ozen but you wont see it at the Brook.
6. I have sat here the past few days reading all the prediction posts, how the Bruins didnt have the athletes to play with PAM.  How PAM would run up 38 - 42 points on the Brook with all the athletes and weapons. But to read today: Stump is a offensive guru, we had the better team but stump out coaches them clowns again. Please - I watched that game last night.  The Brook was equally athletic as PAM if not more.  WB held PAM to 215 yards of total offense and 40 - 50 of that came on the last possession.  PAM didnt come close to even scaring the end zone but on one possession and from my perspective - WB left 2 more touchdowns on the field. The best team won that game hands down - West Brook.  With PAM losing to Central  and now being held to 200 yards of offense and being beaten by the Brook - it is fantasy to come on here saying PAM has a better team than West Brook.
7. Great effort by the Bruins, I saw the improvement I had hoped to see from last week. Great demonstration of growth by remaining tough when we went down 14 - 0 and not allow the failures from last week effect tonights effort or moral. And better demonstration of growth and maturity by competing the way they did the second half. So much for the 28 to 32 point beatdown. I suppose those lowly Bruins from the worst District in the Greater Houston area can compete with some of the Houston 5A schools after all.
8. Jay Guy - 6 1 300 lb nose tackle has committed to play football at Cal
9. Kelly Basketball - I did share that info with you all. You can choose to believe what you want to believe. I know what I saw and what I experienced first hand. I am well aware that most of the current Kelly kids are from St Annes and I know most of those kids and their families. My son and his friends competed against a lot of those kids older brothers from little league through Junior High, little dribblers, Pony League when it existed and through select ball when it emerged. I am well aware that St Annes and St Anthonys are the primary feeder schools for athletes to Kelly High School. I am well aware that traditionally these are the source of the majority of Kelly athletes. None of that has anything to do with what I posted. The student athlete I was referring to this summer chose not to attend Kelly, they are not a Catholic family and are not seeking education through Catholic schools. The other two students are no longer in high school, as I stated it was a couple of years ago. I know first hand that Kelly recruits whether you like it or not or choose to believe it or not. I saw it 2 and 3 years ago first hand, and I saw it again this past summer.
10. I look for West Brook to rebound and play a much better ball game. Hopefully they will recover some of their sick / injured and continue their preparation for the district season. Win - lose - draw this schedule will only continue to grow up a young football team.
11. This isnt conspiracy talk. Two members of my sons football team were recruited a few years ago, both were offered tuition to attend Kelly for their senior years. I saw text messages of student athletes of other local high schools this past summer inviting them over to check them out and - dont worry about tuition. One of them is a senior this year. I have experienced it first hand the past three years so dont suggest to me that it cant or doesnt happen. Your kiddding yourself.
12. There are no proper channels when Kelly coaches actively recruit players attending other High Schools. Once a student athlete completes junior high and enters high school it is against TAPPS rules for any member school to recruit the athlete. Should the athlete initiate the contact himself or herself there is no violation. But when tuition is used as and inducement is where the rub is.
13. The West Brook team and coaches are well aware of the quality of football played by 5A teams in the Greater Houston area. Scheduling Westfield and Katy are part of the competitive scheme of this coaching staff. It is unfortunate that so many of the O linemen have fallen ill this past week. In spite of the bad luck this game and the Katy game will serve this teams sophs and jrs well as they grow and develop. This team will be just fine once they get to district play. This tough schedule will benefit them when it matters most.
