  1. BE CAREFUL WHICH BOARD MEMEBERS TELL YOU THINGS. FIRST OF ALL , IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A BOARD MEMBER TO DISCUSS EMPLOYMENT ISSUES WITH ANYONE OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE BOARD MEMBER COULD BE IN VIOLATION OF THE TEXAS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION RULES AND ETHICS AND COULD FIND THEMSELVES OUT OF A POSITION. THE PARTICULAR BOARD MEMBER YOU ARE REFERING TO ALSO ONLY HAS ONE VOTE. .
  2. First of all our kids are not thugs. I know that you want to see it that way. PNG Kids came off the bench before our kids moved. That was only after two PNG players double teamed a Central Kid. Now you need to think close at what you are saying. What about how PNG Girls volley ball team use to blow thru our girls. No body ever tells them not to hit the ball any harder. What about when PNG has a good team they never call the dogs off. I am not saying that is what should happen or even qualifiying those what central was did on that last play, however if it is good for the goose then it should be good for the gander. I don't ever recall Central getting beat by PNG and then getting upset and play dirty. PNG is known for that just ask any of the coaches in the district, they will concur.
  3. It does not matter if you know who I am or not.
  4. Willie Jefferson is still there! Howeve, not as big of inside threat as in the past years.
  5. First of all, English did not make an immediate impact at nederland. They still finished in 5th place out of 8 teams. That is the same place that Williams finished the year before.....Secondly, the post was not about excuses it was just stating a fact... that yes a coach has to be a great coach in order to win but at the same time you still have to have the personnel in order to carry out a philosphy or a game plan. Furthermore, the year the Jaguars went to Austin in 99 they were really talented. They had a six nine post (Ronnie Davis) that could block shots....another 6'8 (Big Riley) coming off the bench.... the best shooter in the city (Dubie) and a point guard (Skip Jackson) who was a floor general. That is probably the best talent to come through since the 88 team with Ron Jackson, Damon Sweet, Marshall Scott and others. To add to the fact.....Green was not in the regionals any other time during his tenure. The school has only been to the regionals twice in twenty years. Once with Coach White and One with Green. As a matter of fact, the years following his appearance in Austin he went to the second round once and then every year until his departure he was one and done. "Can the Jaguars be coached passed the second round with Mr. Rice"... Maybe they can maybe they can't...I don't know if you know the year before they went to the second round after defeating Smiley.. If they can't maybe one of you basketball scholars who have the answers to everything should apply for the job. If not then all you can do is offer your opinions like you always do and hope for a coaching reassignment or a resignation. P.S. I am wondering, what sports did soulja and short participate in at anytime. (Playstation and XBox not included) Mr. Vitale, I really wish you well in your new endeavor.
  6. Boutte is a great coach!! no one can dispute that. He has been truly blessed to accomplish what he has accomplished. I think some of you on here should take a closer look at what goes on within a program. What has always been a calling card for Boutte is that he has always had depth. When you start talking about teams and how well they perform it is not just what is on the floor when the game starts but the support that a team has coming of of the bench. With the emergence of Ozen as an educational institution, every kid wanted to go to Ozen. Both schools (central and Brook) suffered from an athletic stan point. More for Central because of the negative image that was taken on by the community. People forget that Central use to be a 5A school. 2200 Kids.....it dropped to 1400 after the opening of Ozen. The talent that use be at Central when it was just 2 high school no longer exist. Rice is a decent coach. Anyone who knows talent knows that depth wise.... he has not had the talent that Ozen has since he has been the coach. The difference in Ozen's teams and Centrals teams all the years he has been there has been size....Who at Central could match up with Mack Randle, Joe Lamb, Keyna Young, I am not even going to mention the member of the NBA world champions. You all need to think realistically. Coach Boutte does a great job getting his players prepared to play but it is easy when you have ten players that can actually play as compared to the 3 or 4 players or even 5 players that Central has each year that can actually make a difference. Dickvitale, I know that Boutte is God to you but you are a smart man and you are a knowledgable coach and you know it is more than about XXX's and OOO's when it comes to winning. Red Aurebach would not be what was with out Bill Russell....Pat Riley without Magic, Kareem, worthy, Scott, cooper.....Jackson without Jordan, Pippen, Longley, Rodman......Boutte without Stevie, McCoroy, Perkins, Keyna, Joe lamb, etc.....
  7. I don't think that he he should go!! I don't think that his coaching philosphy or style is suited for college ball. He is a brilliant high school coach not many can touch him. There are a couple of things that has made him the brilliant coach he is that would be absent at the college level. The main thing is there is a shot clock. He is a master at tempo at the high school level. He uses all types of press defenses and offenses to dictate tempo. You can not do that at the college level. However, I must say this.... if he is a hell of coach at the high school level then maybe he could be at the college level. Coaching is Coaching I guess!!!
  8. They will be very good!!! I had a chance to see some of the kids play in PA this past weekend. They looked very good. Their inside kid, although young, will be a factor for them this year. Just hope that Coach TW will be able to combine the talents of his guards with his big. That wil be the deciding factor.
  9. Dickvitale.... I think your list is ok but I would change Sweet and Omar Sneed. Sneed had more highs school accomplishments then sweet. He was a Beast!!!!
  10. Nederland has a legit chance to compete for a spot in the place offs as there will be four teams. Lets not get it to twisted though.....it will be Ozen and Central at the top. Who ever made the comment about Nederland almost getting central..... please you all lost by 25 at Central and was down 20 the first two minutes of the game at your place. if it had not been for the coaches, poor decision making they would have beat you by thirty at you all's place. Nederland are stealin some athletes from PA, However I don't think E. is used to coach black kids. It is different!!!! got to turne them a loose!!
  11. I agree!! Ozen will be very good!! They are very experienced as they return two of the members of last years team that I think made them go......specially Breon. Then you have the sophmore sensation from this year in Decarlos Frank. Plus They have the best coach in southeast Texas...Andre Boutte. What will be interesting though is how they will play with out a legit inside guy and what will Boutte have up his sleeve..... as he always has something!! Good Luck to the Panthers this season!!!!
  12. I can not believe that anybody has not included Andre Boutte in that list. You can not argue with success. 3 State Championships and 9 appearances is not bad. You might not like the demeanor but you have to like those numbers. Yes, he has been fortunate to land in programs with a proliforation of talent but you still have to win with talent. West Brook had talent for years but never won the big 1. You have to give credit where credit is due. Boutte is due is credit.
  13. admin, Buna does have some championship appearances. Lincoln has just as many and I think it is a little bit harder to when at the 4 and 5a levels then the levels that Buna won at. Not to discredit Buna because history does show that they had some great teams over the years. I Have to go with the Bumble Bees Note: Buna also was winning when blacks competed in the P.V. League. Lincoln won when the leaugue was unified with UIL. DIFFERENT COMPETITION!
  14. You have to put J. Brown from PAM on the starting team. He is sometimes unpredictable but you can't be in the top 25 in the country and not be in the line up in the golden triangle. There are alot of great players that I think that could make up the team. It is going to be tough. You have the big kid from WOS that was not mentioned I don't think. Also the guard from Beaumont Central is pretty good as well. The Williamson Kid from Vidor is pretty good as well.
  15. I agree. I thought it was a good game between probably the two best teams in the area. Ozen suprised me they ran a little more than i expected them to. Memorial did a great job of keeping the defensive pressure on thru out the game. There were times when I thought that Ozen would run away with it but the Titans stayed resilient and made big plays on defense to get the win. Hats off to both teams. Great game to open up the 2006-2007 season.
  16. short texas evidently you don't go to the games and you have no basketball knowledge. If you went to the games and you saw the way that central play then you would know right of the back that his style is nothing like Bouttes. As a matter of fact he doesn't have the personnel to even play or pattern his style after boutte's.
  17. Who is the move in!!!! Just because the coach came from West Brook doesn't mean that he coaches like the West Brook Coach. Besides he has a whole lot more basketball experiences than the West Brook Coach. I don't think that he has had the talent that West Brook or Ozen has had since his tenure at Central began, but he still wins. He doesn't schedule weak teams either!!!!
  18. Why would you post scores to a scrimmage!!! A scrimmage is used to help coaches monitor and adjust before they play there regular schedule. It is also used to see who you can play and where, how deep your bench is etc. If they ment something then it would go in the win lost column. You can not judge a team on how well they will be based on a scrimmage very misleading!!!!!!
  19. shorttexas1 I think that you are being a little to hard on coach Rice. I have watched the Jaguars over the pass five years. He has pressed when he has had the personel to press. As a matter of fact he was probablly one of the fastest teams in the area when comes to pressing and pushing the ball up the court. You also have to look at the fact that the Jaguars has been as deep as they had been as a 5A school. You need to take that into consideration when you talk about pushing and pressing. Size is not always the best indicator of what style of play you choose. There are some teams that are big and run the ball and there are some teams that are small and play a controlled fundamental game. Case in point - Vidor Pirates. Just because you run and press don't mean you're going to win either. What if a team forces you into a half court game you still have to be able to score. Another note: you mentioned loosing He has never had a loosing season!!!! I think he won twenty games last year.
  20. Nederland is good and will probably win it. I would look out for Central they could shake things up. They are much better than they have been in the past.
  21. Piratefan, all due respect but I have to agree with the other guy. You can not compare the success of Vidor basketball to every situation. You can sometimes get buy with fundemantals in basketball and win games. Vidor was blessed to have some guys to come along at the same time with great fundamentals ie. the williamson brothers, and the 6 9 kid. They were good because they all could shoot the three. That is a rarity in high school basketball. To reiterate what the other guy stated, no coach wants to go into a situation where he can't win or doesn't have the talent to win and make it to the playoffs. The only time that exist is if a coach just wants to be a head coach and he uses that position as a stepping stone.
  22. I think that Central has a legit chance to win if they take care of their business. LCM is not as bad as people think. However, the person who spoke on being able to pass, Central sat out their two starting secondary guys for discipline. The secondary will not look the same as it did two weeks ago.
  23. I think that it will be Lumberton, Central and Ozen fighting for the number one spot. I think that teams like LCM and PNG will be the teams that will help decide the order.
  24. I heard he may give it up at the end of this year to pursue a career in administration.
  25. Boutte, Whether anyone likes it or not is the undisputed best coach in southeast texas. He has the rings to prove it. You might not like style and attitude but you can not argue with success and championships!!!!
